Well, I think it will be cool to start, warming through the day, then hot, humid throughout, and partly sunny. And if it is like yesterday, we’ll get a little downpour with high winds right in the middle. 62F when I went to bed.
I didn’t get much of anything done yesterday. I fell asleep for a while in the morning, got rained out of some of my plans, and then the day was gone. Somewhere in there I talked with my auctioneer, arranged a trailer for my ‘parts truck’ pickup, played with the dog, and did some ebay listings. Once again, I’m seeing a strong correlation between listing, and selling, to the tune of “if you don’t list every day, you won’t sell.” I went a couple of days without listing anything, and had no sales. Did just a couple of listings yesterday and sold an item last night. Other resellers on youtube have noticed as well. Doesn’t even have to be a good listing, one dvd a day is fine, but there has to be something. I share because I care. Sell some cr@p. Buy some preps.
Speaking of, I ordered new frying pans, some coffee, and a book from amazon. My pans need to be replaced. Nonstick pans are an expendable, and not something I see in the auctions very often. If there were never any more, I’ve got good stainless, but the nonstick are so much easier for some things… the pans will be here in a few days, but the coffee is “in stock soon” showing a December 12 delivery estimate. Um, it’s the manufacturer’s store on amazon. I’m going to have to pay about $6 more per 48oz bag to order direct from the manufacturer’s website if I want any next month. I’ve GOT some on the shelf, probably enough to get through ’til then, but jeez. There have been mentions in the press of coffee shortages, but until this order I haven’t had any problem. The brand is in stock at Costco even, but they changed varieties to something light and fruity, instead of the classic dark I prefer. I’ve got depth of backup for coffee, but I’d like to stay with fresh for as long as possible. Issues somewhere in the chain. One more indication you need to stock up when you see something you need.
In other news, the dog seems to be fine again. Daughter’s cut on her leg had the stitches out and looks fine. She’s completely over the procedure she had done for an ingrown toenail. Neighbor had a crew knocking down his chimney today, in the most slipshod way possible, and I think they still left the part between the roof and the ceiling. From the noise of brick chunks hitting the ground, I suspect a chunk fell inside the house. It felt like it fell in MY house. They have cut a bunch of holes in the new roof, near where the giant beam sticks through. I don’t see a plan in effect, but it’s not my house so my curiosity is high but my GAF is low. Neighbors across the street had 6 big trees trimmed pretty dramatically in one afternoon, which only confirms that the monkeys that took 3 days to cut down two trees at the next door neighbor’s were monkeys. I don’t think I’ve seen one company name painted or even stickered on the vehicles for the guys working on the house. That’s some fly by night trunk slammers right there.
I have a goal for today, we’ll see if I hit it. I better, or the boss’s patience might be exhausted.
So I’m off to work, so I can clear the way for better stuff to stack. Stack it high, before you can’t.

"…my curiosity is high but my GAF is low…"
I am so stealing that one. Thanks!
Non-stick pans. Have more? Yes!! For some dishes, they are pretty much indispensable – scrambled eggs, anyone? I have had good luck recently with the cheap ones from Aldi. 20-ish bucks, and absolutely top quality, at any price. I defend them from fools with cutlery like a mother bear her cubs* – strictly wooden spoons and plastic utensils only in those pans!
*An interesting bit of trivia: polar bears are all descended from the now-extinct Irish brown bear. Apparently some of ours wandered north, got stuck in the cold, got big, white and hungry!
Chilly this am. 60F, with about the same number for RH.
A bit breezy too.
Could get to 'blustery' today, but I expect it will warm up instead.

"(and you know you moved the goalposts there, when your argument changed from "he should have checked because guns are killers and everyone knows that" to "he should have checked because there were safety issues on the set and things were not normal, so he should have KNOWN to be extra careful as a result". The second of those has in it the assumption that NORMALLY he doesn't have to check, btw…)"
Sorry, not guilty. It's the same thing I said several days ago.
And I realized this morning that one of the bits I posted last night gives the DA what is as close to a slam-dunk case as could exist, short of finding out that Baldwin was involved with the dead woman.
And since the AD was previously fired from a set where someone got shot, why has no one asked who wanted to sleep with him that got him hired?
Cast iron, you heretic!
You think the Ford-vs-GM arguments get bitter? 1911-vs-everything-else? Even the abortion debate? You ain't seen nuthin' until you've trod on a cast iron enthusiast's toes.
MrsAtoz would never think of making migas in anything other than her big ole cast iron skillet.
Mr. Nick don't think you are being ganged up on killer Baldwin. You are one of the good guys. We know you have extensive experience in the industry and appreciate your frankness in how safety is conducted. This particular movie set is f'd up beyond imagination. There is not way to tell how the DA will go. Make a name, change the rules, punish the innocent for a headline, are all possibilities. Oh, yeah, and the law.
Now, LET'S CONTINUE BEATING THIS HORSE INTO PASTE!
I make excellent scrambled eggs in cast iron Lodgeware. I do start with a good blob of butter. When it's melted, it's time to add the egg mixture and reduce gas heat to near nothing. A quick swipe and oil and it's ready for next time.
In fairness, I'm still using decades old non-stick 2 quart pan for noodles and soups. I don't own any metal cooking utensils. They're organized on a large pegboard as an element of kitchen decor. I keep looking at stainless/copper sandwich pot sets but never get around to pulling the trigger.
Added: Also saw that coffee had poor harvest and was going up. Ordered another 12lb of Cafe Bustelo at .30 per ounce from the ‘Zon. Not the actual best coffee I’ve ever had, but eminently serviceable. The vacuum bags are extremely good to maintain freshness.
Ha ha, SPIN! SPIN! SPIN!
Wasn't Biden et al. lined up against the sanctions as being racist?
They think that because it's what they do… so they know it's possible and likely.
All of those companies make surveillance cameras, just the sort of thing you put inside your secure network, and physically inside secure facilities. And you point them at your most valuable stuff…

since the AD was previously fired from a set where someone got shot,
— he was marched off the set where there was an unexpected or accidental discharge of a prop gun. No one got shot, unless the one early report that he was present on the Brandon Lee “The Crow” set is true. That famous case isn’t the one in the current reports though.
Someone might have details about that incident, but I haven’t seen any, except that the armorer got escorted off too.
And yes, I’d have expected that to happen on Rust too, if the reports of earlier discharges were true. The safety bulletin specifically mentions fixing problems with the gun, so dismissing the AD and armorer aren’t required or recommended if there was a real mechanical issue. If there was a mistake, you typically only get one.
That’s true in other crafts on set too. When I did a lot of climbing up into truss and working overhead, we had a rule that if you dropped anything you went directly home. It happened to me. I was above the stage and dropped a pocket knife. It bounced, opened, and stuck into the stage floor. I climbed down, started to pack my stuff, and the crew chief stopped me from leaving. HE made a determination that the production needed me there more than they needed the zero tolerance example. I didn’t go back into the air on that gig though.

Ivermectin horse paste, I hope?
Sounds like Nick's neighbors are about to learn: get something done cheap, get exactly what you paid for. Of course, some people never learn – it's always about saving money *now* and screw the longer term consequences.
Low interest rates and loose lending standards have resulted in many people in the US buying into homes they cannot afford to maintain in the hope of scoring a "tenbagger" (1000% gain) reselling within a decade.
The Fed buys most of the mortgage debt as well as US Government bonds to keep interest rates low. If they didn't, and interest rates reverted to even historical lows of, say, 6%, many areas of Texas and Florida would see the real estate market crater as home values could easily decline by $150k, putting many recent buyers “under water”, where they owe far more on the loan(s) than the house is worth.
The learning curve for some things is steep and expensive. Remodeling is one of those things. The guy is a realtor, and I can only imagine that he wants to get into the 'flipping' game but has zero experience with remodeling or construction. During our conversation, he several times mentioned that he thinks prices in our neighborhood will be MUCH higher next year.
Right now, rent in our neighborhood wouldn't cover the mortgage for the house with 10% down and PMI.
n
10% down? That's old school. 3% down is back!
If Biden fulfills his campaign promise of restoring the first time home buyer tax loan/credit at $10k-20k, then, yes, prices in many areas will be much higher next year. The last loan/credit of $8000 put a $240k floor under prices of homes in many areas.
It is a blustery day out there. I think I saw Winnie the Pooh and Piglet sailing along the fence line. I hope that they manage to stop before they hit our lake.
Well, it certainly won't cover it with only 3% down.
The NASA federal credit union is running radio ads for 0 down, no PMI loans. They pretty much have to be loans for the first 20%, and then for the rest. Or the CU is paying the PMI?
We've seen this before and it didn't end well.

.40S&W has fallen out of fashion, I believe, when the FBI standardized on 9mm. Fewer gun models are produced in that caliber anymore.
I've been lusting after a Wilson Combat EDC, a 1911-ish double stack 9mm but the $3k price is just a bit too much. I console myself with S&W's Performance Center 1911 Commander clone. The slide vents are kinda silly but purty. Puts me in mind of a Buick.
I did see, on the Internet, that total CCW permits in the US has reached 21 million. Thereabout of 10% of adult citizens. And 22 states have Constitutional Carry.
–massive change.
n
Yup, and of course I have a couple of thousand rounds of .40S&W ammo. Maybe I will sell half of it.
And yes, the total CCW permits in the USA is a massive change. Wealthy people like Johnny Carson used to carry .38 S&W snub nosed revolvers everywhere and anywhere. Now we are tilting back toward the common man being able to do so also.

Our health improves. Coughing gone, meds other than ivermectin are done. Working on regaining muscle and energy.
Several folks I know from their testimony at Assembly have died in the last two weeks. All but one by Covid at the hands of our local incompetent hospitals. The patients dr each had a plan with Ivermectin that the hospitals refused to do, despite their being legal precedence and actual law that obligated the hospitals to follow alternate treatments under those circumstances. I hope there are big fat lawsuits. Going into the local hospital is death currently.

Shoot. One of the banging noises I heard was one of my smaller ornamental trees coming down. About a 5" trunk, twisted off about 5 feet up from the ground. There was a previous scar there, so the trunk was weak.

Of course, we gave a different problem that drives up real estate prices: it's a "safe" investment for the pension funds. I think it's safe to say that nearly all apartment buildings, and most office space, belong to a pension fund or an insurance company.
The toll lanes in the medians of I-95 and I-395 around Washington, DC fund Austrialian and Canadian pension funds. An Australian company, Transurban, built and operates the roads, paying the state an annual rental on the real estate for … 100 years? … a really long time.
The model is being eyed by a number of states, particularly other members of the EZ Pass sytem, and Maryland recently signed with Transurban.

Evolution makes sense, even with the second law. Why? Because Earth isn't an isolated system. In particular, the sun is pumping energy into the system, so local reversals of entropy are balanced out by increasing entropy in the sun. Otherwise, photosynthesis would be impossible. The solar system as a whole is bombarded (at much lower energy density) by cosmic rays and the like, which can contribute to local reversals, balanced out by increased entropy where the cosmic rays originate. Keep scaling that up and the Universe as a whole is getting more disordered over time.
That is, a single tank of fossil fuel generated electricity. 🙂
>> Not that it really matters. Most of the modern automatic dishwasher soaps are pathetic.
We get good results with the Kirkland pods from Costco, even on the energy-saver cycle, although I still do (to the annoyance of my drought-aware SO) sometimes pre-rinse the heavily soiled items. DW is Frigidaire that came with the house. (I recall someone recently posting a link about liquids vs the pods but I don't think I ever read it.)
The "tank" on the electric vehicle is the battery, and you can drive across the country without changing your battery. Sure, you have to spend four to eight hours recharging it every two hundred miles (or one miles if you need heat or air conditioning or have a headwind), but you can make it with just the one battery.
That is, a single tank of fossil fuel generated electricity.

The largest portion of the framework focuses on climate and would include the largest legislative investment in combating climate change in US history, according to the White House. White House officials say the framework Biden is set to lay out will put the US track to Biden's Paris Agreement goal: a 50-52% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions below 2005 levels by the end of the decade.
$320 billion for clean energy tax credits. This includes 10-year expanded tax credits for utility-scale and residential clean energy, transmission and storage, clean passenger and commercial vehicles and clean energy manufacturing.
$105 billion to address extreme weather, pollution in communities and the creation of a Civilian Climate Corps to conserve public lands and bolster community resilience.
$110 in investments and incentives for clean energy technology, manufacturing and supply chains.
$20 billion to provide incentives for the government to purchase next generation technologies, including clean construction materials."
Why is there no "Why, bless your heart!" emoji? 😀
The Technology Connections guy on YT has made 2 long videos, in which he says the powders work well, don't pre-rinse in the sink, but you MUST use both the main and pre-wash detergent containers in the dishwasher.
We went from expensive pods to cheap liquid with better results. Unfortunately, my wife has a long list of items she doesn't allow in the dishwasher.

Because evolution says that things went from chaotic to orderly. But the second law says that things go from orderly to chaotic. These two items do not agree with each other at all.

New computer case has a fan header. You connect SATA power, a cable from a fan port on the motherboard, and three fans can be connected, four wire, where the speed can be controlled by the BIOS. The header also provides six three wire fan connections where the fan speed is not controlled.
Somewhere in the installation process I lost the cable from header to the motherboard. My mistake. I contacted Fractal Design and inquired about purchasing a new cable. Instead Fractal Design is sending me a cable and new header at no charge.

I'll bet that it is illegal in California.
I'm thinking that you don't understand evolution at all and have at best a nodding acquaintance with the Second Law.
True, true, and both yet to be demonstrated and irrelevant.
There's no evidence-based reason to believe that human life, nor even Terran life, is unique.
From where I sit, there's no reason for me to believe that you are sentient [sic – you probably mean sapient] nor unique. I could most likely code up a Lynn-bot which could post to TTG and put reviews up on Amazon, a bot which would pass a Turing test so long as one didn't push it too hard. Your challenge would be to convince me that you are alive and sapient.
But wait, it gets worse. (But batten down the hatches. It's a difficult ride which will challenge your conception of the world.) In short, the world as we think of it doesn't exist. It can't exist, based on physics experiments, not the way we think of it. Rather, what you think of as the world — fire, tigers, your hand, neurons, quarks — are simply an interface which feeds your consciousness — "you" — fitness measures which allow you to interact with the world, survive, and breed. Key point: Sol doesn't exist, other stars don't exist, DNA doesn't exist, not as we think of them. Something exists, but we see only an interface, like the file icons on your computer desktop. The interface simplifies the reality so that we can interact with it but we have no idea what's really going on under the hood.
(Not that "fire" and "tigers" and "your hand" are useless. They are not veridically true but they're useful. Don't be ignoring that tiger in front of you just because it doesn't exist when you're not sensing it.)
(Also, I'm not sure I completely buy Hoffman's argument. I'd want someone more knowledgeable than I about quantum and astronomical physics to address his points, or ideally discuss them with him, to find weaknesses in the foundation of his theory. And anyway, truly true or not, our interfaces on reality are useful enough that we can make sandwiches, build power plants, and gene edit yeast, so any lack of truly-trueness may not matter.)

Good times comin' if you're an electrician
https://www.utilitydive.com/news/residential-electric-panels-represent-a-nearly-100b-roadblock-to-full-el/605829/
Hopefully Nissan can retrofit this new tank into my Leaf once Uncle Joe gives us the details.
>> (or one miles if you need heat or air conditioning or have a headwind)
The Leaf has both heated seats and a heated steering wheel. Using both together still uses less power than putting on the 'conventional' heater. Luckily I only have to worry about the A/C usage. One of the info screens tells you how many additional miles you could drive if you shut off the heat or A/C. It's usually less than 10, but driving I-10 across west Texas can be scary in sections if you don't know where the next fuel stop is and the low fuel (gas or electric) light is glaring at you. (Been there (on I-10), done that, in an ICE vehicle, not an EV.)
Er, that was supposed to be one hundred miles. I blame Rick for all typos.
Electric panels in up to 48 million U.S. single-family homes will need to be upgraded to fully transition away from fossil fuels and use electricity for space and water heating, cooking, vehicle charging and other applications, according to new research from residential electricity research group Pecan Street.
With an average cost of $2,000 for an upgraded panel, that represents a nearly "$100 billion impediment to residential electrification," the group said in [link deleted].
It is also an energy transition equity issue, with lower-income customers often unable to make that investment. But utilities can play a role in helping make upgrades possible through rebates or incentives, said Pecan Street CEO Suzanne Russo.
Translation:
Old electric bill:
$200 Total
$150 Cost of electricity
$50 Taxes and other add-ons
New electric bill:
$600 Total
$300 Cost of electricity
$300 Taxes and other add-ons
And that new panel? Internet connected, brownout/rolling blackout/peak cost ready, along with the"off" switch if the woke monitor in the office reads your blog posts.
Probably be impossible to feed with a gennie unless you buy the “enabling” hardware for a couple grand more, plus tax stamps.
Thermal Design Power. How much heat the CPU generates.
What is the CPU TDP?
No idea. CPU can consume up to 250 watts, overclocked, maxed CPU load. I have no idea what my TDP is for normal work. Temperature of the CPU runs about 40C and I have it as high as 65C rendering video.
At that point there is noticeable warm air from the water cooler fans. I also am not going to overclock. Very little benefit versus the risk.
Intel generally shuts down if overheated, but, yeah, no sense in taking the risk.
Ok, back at desk.
For simple frying pans or "chef's pans" as the restaurants call them, I decided long ago not to buy anything that wasn't NSF approved. That's the stamp restaurants need on their cookware. You can get the standard 8" or 10" at a restaurant supply store, or you can get really close buying the Tramontina Professional brand at amazon or elsewhere. They were the OEM for the Kirkland pans for a while, then were in Costco under their own name, and then Costco went for more flashy pan sets…and you had to find them online.
The 8" pro is $25-30. They also have a non-NSF version that I actually bend my rule for, because I like the way the handle is attached better. No rivets in the pan.
I've been using them for years. I use metal forks and spoons to stir and scrape. I consider them tools not status items (like the Calphalon set we started with. No more Calphalon for me ever.)
NB that the NSF stamp has nothing to do with cooking, but since industrial cookware needs the stamp, it is generally only on heavy pro quality tools with no frills.
I put them in the dishwasher, and the aluminum goes gray, but it's on the outside anyway. The non-stick holds up to abuse very well. Like any pan, overheating it will kill the non-stick properties. I usually get a couple of years of daily use before there are enough little chips in the coating for me to replace them.
You can put them under the broiler, and unlike some non-stick, they will brown food properly (although I still use my very heavy bottom stainless pans for sauces or things that are difficult to brown in non-stick.
The sides are angled correctly so you can "flip" the pan to toss and flip the contents.
Also, I always use a fat when cooking, so the non-stick is more useful to me at clean up time.
Definitely recommended.

I am fairly sure that the Smart Meters can already do just about everything that you listed there. You just gotta have the controlling hardware / software and the id for the smart meter.
And the hardware needed for a gennie is a $2,000 Siemens 200 amp automatic transfer switch (installed cost).
Three years ago, at the old job's test facility, the transfer switch failed during a power outage caused by winds from the first strong cold front of the season, similar to last night. Brand new install.
The big irony? ERCOT HQ visible just across the runway from the front door.

I am not sure if it is all men to the pumps but I do see this type of warning a lot nowadays.
I have been in the situation where we had to man the pumps on a 41 foot sailboat. We ran over a pipeline in Galveston Bay and ripped the bottom of the keel off. The two electric bilge pumps were quickly overwhelmed and I got on the manual pump in the cockpit. We were trying to make Galveston Island but we landed the boat on Redfish Island instead. Quite unnerving.

Those darned Amish. I've been seeing a lot of posts in social media lately, where the perp (like this guy) makes it about race, when it obviously isn't. Maybe society is finally getting tired of people pulling the race card to excuse their crappy behavior. One can hope…
And the shirt(-r)-hole cities these assaults take place in have either defunded police, restricted them, or vax'd them away. WHITEY! has made the Amish a protected class.
