Thur. July 22, 2021 – vet appointment, then work

By on July 22nd, 2021 in dogs, personal, prepping, WuFlu

Sunny and hot, humid, followed by overcast and rain. Yesterday certainly did that, with the rain more of a deluge. We got over 2 inches in about half an hour. That caused a lot of localized flooding, but it quickly drained away. The national map has us in the T storm area for the next few days, so I’m going with a repeat of yesterday. Although, probably not as much rain.

Spent most of yesterday doing domestic bliss chores. Ran 3 loads of laundry, including some floor mats and towels. With the puppy learning where to do his business, I’ve got some extra soiled items…

He’s doing better, but still needs a lot of eyes-on supervision, which was lacking yesterday. So, more floor mats for the laundry.

Neighbor’s roofers finished just in time for the rain to stress test their work. I might or might not hear from him if there were issues. He’ll probably want evidence if there were, so I’ve got some more backup to do. Not that tough or time consuming, and I’m gonna watch something like that anyway. I try to take any opportunity to learn what I can from other people’s mistakes.

After all the rain, I did get one of my tasks done- I got to Costco. Dropped two visits worth of cash but got a bunch of meat. And very uncharacteristically, I got it all portioned out and vac sealed, and tucked away in cold sleep. I’m very glad to have the extra small chest freezer. If I had room I’d add another.

Today I’ve got a vet appointment for the little pooper. More shots I think. He’s grown quite a bit but he’s still a cutie. After the vet, I’m going to try to head over to my secondary and do some more clean out. It’s gotta happen, and the kids are away… which just leaves the dog to manage. Frankly the kids are easier…

I’m glad I was able to replace some food items I’d used up. I’m pretty sure I’ll be adding more.

Stack all the things.

Takeaway has jumped about 20% in price since the beginning of the year. Probably going up another 10% by the end of the year. Salaries and the raw food are jumping in price.

Everyone around here has to offer $17/hr to get people through the door to even apply.

The fast food chains are resisting raising prices which means that the deep clean crews who come in at night are either scheduled less frequently or not at all. You are going to hear about it on the news fairly soon.

The Ground Zero of the Chipotle E Coli fiasco was the store close to our house in WA State following a dramatic jump in the state minimum wage which meant cleaning got short shrift. When the outbreak started among the employees and spread, my wife’s only comment was, “I’m surprised it wasn’t Hepatitis.”

    She didn’t elaborate further.

Once the seller hands the roofer the check and the building dept. signs off, that’s it for the job.

If the HOA dictates shingle quality beyond what meets code and matches color, they’re just asking for trouble.

It is like the asinine specifications for St. Augustine/Floratam sod many associations have in Gulf Coast areas, a lot of which also have water restrictions which won’t keep the grass alive unless the homeowner breaks the law and the bank. Fascism 101. I’ve lived that one.

We have a Floratam of some type here in Austin with which I do zero beyond mow, but, fortunately, my immediate neighbor has a train wreck yard and he’s Middle Eastern so the HOA is scared of him. Praise Allah and the continued good health of my neighbor. No HOA letter for me in seven years beyond one time when I left the trash cans in front of my fence.

Nicholas Brown, 22, and Markeil Hayes, 28, were arrested for attempted robbery, cops said on Wednesday.

Brown, who is currently on parole for another conviction, suffered a gun shot wound to his upper left thigh.

Hayes, who is also currently on parole, suffered a gun shot wound to the right calf.

The latest attack comes as shootings in LA skyrocket.

The number of shooting victims so far this year is up 43.2% on the same period last year, according to Compstat crime statistics.

There have been 782 shooting victims since January, while in the same period last year there were just 546.

Amish again. Crazy kids. No one in the group looked unfamiliar with violence.

Watch the vid. Note when the victim shifts his weight and stance (‘blades up’), then the attacker has the drop on him, but he still draws and fires. Females run in the same direction as the attackers and are only 15ft apart for the whole run…

Second attacker has a gun in his left hand, but never raises it.

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9810527/Man-24-charged-rape-took-pregnant-12-year-old-girlfriend-hospital.html

Police said Miranda-Jara proudly told them he was the father of the baby girl his girlfriend was about to deliver, and seemed confused as to why officers were called to the hospital.

‘They walked in just like any other couple would, excited to deliver their newborn child,’ Tulsa police officer Danny Bean told Fox 23.

Bean added that the expecting couple thought the situation was ‘kinda fine’ and did not see anything wrong with it.

The age of consent in Oklahoma is 16 years old.

Despite her young age, the 12-year-old delivered a healthy baby daughter and was later released from the hospital, but without her boyfriend.

Miranda-Jara was arrested on a charge of first-degree rape, but police said he could face additional counts related to the underage pregnancy.

Juan Miranda-Jara, 24, has been charged with first-degree rape of a minor after allegedly admitting to dating a 12-year-old girl and impregnating her

Police have not said how Miranda-Jara first came into contact with the young girl, why she was allowed to have a sexual relationship with a man twice her age, and how she was able to carry her baby to full term without anyone reporting the pregnancy to the authorities.

Social media posts suggest that some of Miranda-Jara’s relatives were allegedly aware of his relationship with the minor and approved of it.

On his Facebook page, which has seen been deleted, Miranda-Jara openly stated that he was in a relationship with the underage girl and shared photos from their recent baby shower.

In one image, the man is seen happily posing with the pregnant 12-year-old wearing a floral dress and a festive sash, with pink and gold balloons and a cupcake tower in the background.

–they were all fine with it, THAT’S why.

All that said, it’s far too late now, she’s happy, he’s happy, the families are happy, I don’t see much benefit to jailing him. Deport the whole group if they’re illegals, but keep them together. Why make a f-ed up situation worse?

De-anonymizing cell phone data to track individuals:

Location data is part of the maintenance traffic. Like SMS, a warrant is not required.

AT&T/Verizon/T-Mobile probably sell scrubbed records which can be easily reconciled with other sources to give a complete location history on individual. Scrubbing may not even be required by current EULA. Who knows.

The carriers can’t provide the wireless service at current rates and speeds without revenue streams beyond the monthly subscription fees, like selling users’ data to interested parties.

I still believe that Starlink is a trojan horse to get the last terrestrial broadcast TV and AM/FM radio spectrum reallocated to what’s left of the competing carriers. That will be an expensive auction for the big three.

Yeah, I don’t believe Dish as a player beyond being an MVNO for a second. They’ll sell their bandwidth as soon as the anti-trust heat is off and The Real Life Tony Stark (TM) gets Congress to move on auctioning off the remaining easy pieces of sub 1 GHz spectrum to the carriers on the promise that they really will fulfill the pizza box dream this time. Cross his heart.

Who needs broadcast AM radio or TV. Those are for luddites and old people, like (the horror) landline phone service. Ditch the old tech — Baby Yoda is returning for a third season, streaming soon!

@SteveF, re: fat content of ground beef.

I don’t think you have that quite right.  If you make ground chuck from chuck, it’s already 80% lean and 20% fat, with no added fat.

In some places there are legal definitions for ground chuck, ground beef, and hamburger as well.

As I recall, things labeled hamburger are allowed to mix different trimmings and cuts.

They do sometimes add fat to a grind to make it less lean, as it uses up the fat scraps from breaking down a side. Higher fat content is useful for some foods. My cookbooks recommend 80-85% beef for burgers, as they stay juicier.

    Incel = Involuntary Celibate ?

We live in a crazy world now. 24 year old taking his 12 year old girlfriend to the hospital to deliver their baby. 21 year old can’t get a date because he talks about murdering women.

    Crazy.

Next time it is dead, try 911. If that works, tell the 911 operator you were testing after your carrier turned service OFF. I doubt it would accomplish much, but might give it a try.

    — not really. Could be a polymer 80 style DIY gun, they are basically clones of the Glock, and the article doesn’t actually say it’s a Glock ™

Homemade guns are legal, and don’t require serial numbers. Most rifles and shotguns didn’t have them for a long time. It’s just another example of .gov overreach when they are “required”.

And who gives a baby shower for their pregnant 12 year daughter ? People used to not talk about that stuff, she would be sent to live with Mom’s sister for a “long summer”.

    — hispanic people, that’s who. Sounds like they thought the guy was a good catch. Most of history for most of the world, daughters were a dead expense and you got rid of them as quickly as you could. The mexican Quinceañera is creepy as hell, and I’m not looking forward to my daughters wanting to do it because all their friends are doing it. 15=woman… and for many of them, genetics dictate that they WILL never look more beautiful than on that day….

The pictures of the woman in full costume used to be all over the Internet until Jeb! won the second term. You can find the stories online easily, but the pics are gone. IIRC, she worked at the club in St. Petersburg where my father supposedly had a key.

Once they collect mail at a location, the courts side with the squatters in making sure they receive full due process.

The most brutal fight of my marriage was over my wife’s invitation to a dirtbag cousin to move in with us so he could attend nursing school. They knew that if they tried each of them on a semi-automatic AR-15, they might wind up with an automatic weapon and would thereby violate the National Firearms Act (perform gain of function research). However, they already had a full-auto M16 (a virus called WIV1). So instead, they took each of the lower receivers and put it into their M16 to see if it could still shoot full auto. In two cases it could and in 6 cases it couldn’t. ”

There are, however, some of the older Intel Core i5 machines out there in new or open box condition, so I’m wondering if that might be worth considering?

My most current MacBook Pro is a refurb purchased direcctly from Apple. Zero problems.

I’ve had the machine since 2014, and it is the mid-2012 model, the last 15″ system with a CD-ROM.

“Using a firearms analogy, here’s what they did. They had a bunch of new lower receivers (Spike genes) for AR-15s (SARS-like coronaviruses) and wanted to know whether they could fire full-auto (infect human cells). ”

Am I the only one concerned that this is just the first of many man made viruses ?

“There are many ways to go about hiding things, but the universally applicable one is ground burial. (Watching some jackass Dumbass Doomsday Prepper burying steel pipes in saltwater in Alaska was so full of retarded moron double-facepalm I can’t even.)
In the ground means rust, via water, is your biggest enemy. That means metal, any metal, is right out. “Stainless” is relative. Bury a “stainless” piece of dinnerware in the yard for a couple of years, and get back to us. File under “Doh!””

I had not thought about stashing stuff in sealed six inch PVC pipe. That might actually work.

I do like the idea of burying a couple of 10 foot conexes though. Too bad they would stick out like a sore thumb. And leak water like a sieve from our 18 inch ground water table.

I went from a Duo to a Titanium Powerbook to an Air that was 5-lb lighter. Bought the external CD drive, but didn’t need it much and left it at home while traveling.

A basement or other foundation, particularly for an outbuilding or other shed might be ideal but there are other possibilities for hidden, highly secure by obscurity, low access storage. A concrete septic tank or cistern would probably avoid a second glance. Lynn’s commercial steel buildings lend themselves to a false wall with some abandoned electrical boxes mounted to a panel hinged for access. Saw a fridge with the back panel removed hiding the door to a hidden space in a garage. Doesn’t Harold have a storm shelter under his garage?

Buried conex containers crush under ground pressure. Apparently. There is youtube video. Piling dirt around and on top of one would work.

I’m thinking concrete vault, or plastic septic tank. There are youtube videos…

The problem is keeping them from finding it, for whatever value of ‘them’…

Only one of my commercial buildings is steel and i-beam, the office warehouse, 3,750 ft2. And it is 100% rented out to a tenant. My office building is stick and brick, the first story is 4,300 ft2 and the second story is 1,000 ft2. Plenty of space to hide stuff that only a determined searcher would find. My other two buildings are stick and Hardiplank, 450 ft2 and 144 ft2.

Folks like Zuck and ‘Bronco passenger’ must have accounted for TEOTWAWKI, bunker underneath one of their houses, lots of cans of SPAM??

This is pretty cool and something I wasn’t aware of…

Louis Rossmann, who I usually watch for repair stuff, but who has lately been documenting the state of the city of New York, took a walk around Times Square with a 360 go pro camera on his head. The resulting video on youtube is really cool. You can click and drag on the running video, and look around, up or down. There is the occasional glitch but it looks great, especially considering it’s small and light enough to wear like a hat.

Disney’s 360 circle vision theater still amazes me. All the large format projection does (and was related to my job for a decade) so I’m really impressed by what you can do with it on youtube.
