Cool and wet is the forecast, with rain throughout the day. If so I’ll work on inside stuff. There is plenty of it.
Yesterday I did some errands, the biggest of which was getting a large 3d printer out of my friend’s workspace. It was an inkjet and powder type, and we weren’t going to be able to run it anyway, so when the original purchaser called with his sob story, I agreed to get it back to him. That generosity led to a bunch of messing around and time wasted.
Eating donuts for lunch took me out for a bit over an hour too. Then off to pick up some auction stuff, mainly PPEs. N95s in very battered packaging are showing back up in the auctions, a box at a time, and are selling for reasonable amounts, $1-$2 per mask. I’m set for a while yet, so I’m buying respirator cartridges if the price is right. Gloves and eye pro too. In austere conditions protecting what you’ve got is more important than trying to heal afterward.
Throughout a long career working with my hands, I haven’t been that big on wearing gloves for ordinary work. That is changed now. The molded grippy rubber coated stretch fabric gloves give a high degree of dexterity, while still giving cushioning and cut protection. I wear them for any job where I’m touching metal and can cut or nick myself. There are so many choices now, that you can find a glove engineered for whatever task you are faced with. I still have some goatskin leather ‘drivers’ for jobs like swinging an ax or sledge hammer, but for everything else, there’s probably a better choice. The anti-vibration gloves made a HUGE difference in my comfort while running the pressure washer all day.
Eye pro should be a no-brainer. I have clear, amber and grey tints with and without ‘reader’ or ‘cheater’ lenses in the bottom, yellow for high contrast, and goggle types for chemical use. I’ve got mesh shields for chainsawing and clear shields for metal and wood working. I’ve got lots of spares, and lots of cleaning solution and wipes. I think I can check gloves and eye pro off my list for a while.
That is one of the main ways I approach prepping. In addition to ordinary stacking, I’ll focus on a specific area ‘while the getting is good’. Usually I keep acquiring the items for a bit too long. It’s been that way with storage batteries and gloves and eye pro for the last couple of months. The stuff was on my list, and it came available, so I’ve been a buyer. I prefer that method to trying to fill the list at a particular time. I save a bunch of money by waiting for it to come to me, but it does take longer. Of course, being me, I had stuff in all those categories, just not as much. Enough to meet an initial or short term need, but not ‘bulk’. Now I’ve got some depth to the shelf. I will keep looking for batteries and charge controllers, and I wouldn’t say no to cheap solar panels.
Whatever your list looks like, start filling in gaps. Get something in each category, then start building depth. Food, water, shelter, defense, health and hygiene, comms, education and reference, entertainment and morale, any other that suits you. Evaluate what you already have, you might be surprised, then build on that.
Keep stacking.

So Nick can nick! Cute.
The rotary phones should bring good money, and I’d pick up the lionel track if I had won something else. The sewing notions will probably bring more than anything I’ve mentioned yet.
Taking a closer look at my landline phone bill the other night, I noticed that AT&T snuck the old $0.18 /month touchtone feature charge back on the bills which means that the lines still support rotary dial. Ironically, emulating the old rotary signalling costs them more money than putting everyone on touch tome.
New Lionel train sets leave much to be desired, but I like the modern FastTrack. Collectors can never have enough track, however.
Check your bank accounts, especially pending transactions. If you have electronic deposit, or electronic stealing, for your IRS transactions the money may be at your financial institution. Checked mine this morning and the $1,200.00 is pending with an effective date of 01/04/2021 which will get deposited today. The CU I use posts transactions the day before and 1/4 is a Monday and the money has to be in the account at the start of the business day by federal CU regulations. Which means a normal date of Thursday but the day early applies.
It must have been a significant impact on the ACH system to push through several million transactions in a few hours. The larger banks must have really seen significant volume over normal. That the system can handle that volume is amazing. I also suppose I have no concept of the volume and amount of electronic transactions handled every day.
This is my calculation engine code. I try not to pollute it with Windows API calls, especially esoteric calls.
I once had to write a contrived WaitForMultipleObjectsEx call porting VPN code to Linux *without* peeking at the Wine source in order to avoid legal problems. That was painful.

Just about everyone has direct deposit of paychecks anymore, and anytime I buy something online at Home Depot for store pickup, Paypal is easier than a credit card. Kohl’s takes Paypal too IIRC.
There is a rumored trick in the system which employers can use to check balances of employees’ direct deposit accounts which requires rapidly depositing/withdrawing money. I’m not sure exactly how it works, but I suspect the trick was used against us in Vantucky. My wife’s employers were caught completely off guard when she turned in notice, assuming that we didn’t have the money for tail malpractice insurance, funded from my separate account at another bank.
We moved a couch in on 12/20/2020 and have food in the cupboards and fridge. I intended to work on it tonight but am thrashed and taking a night off (perhaps to watch that Alien movie mentioned by Jim) instead.

I have zero time off at the new job so home improvement projects like unwinding what the previous owner of our house did to the kids’ bathroom will have to wait for the weekends.
Things that make you say “Hmmmm” — The work VPN has been down since the Nashville bombing.
Wrok gloves: One of my sons uses the kind you describe. For me, I wear leather or leather-palmed gloves for any outside job, and every time I bring in a log (we have wood heat). I even have one clean pair reserved for using a mandolin in the kitchen – I’m clumsy. I wear out the left hand glove of 3 or 4 pair every year. “Small” work gloves are hard to find in good times, so I always buy them up when I find them on clearance. I wish I could find a right handed person in the same boat to switch out the “still good” gloves with – seems a shame to throw them away.
Hmm. I wear out left gloves, leaving a collection of right ones. I am supposedly right handed, but use different hands for different tasks. I say I am ambisinistrousTM.
Roman soldiers were all right handed by decree. It had to be so for battle lines to work, sword in right hand, shield in left. In formation, a leader always placed the more trusted soldier on his right: dexter, and the less trusted one on his left: sinister. It was easier to whack the one to the left if needed. Eventually, those words took on their current meaning, especially sinister.
I generally use work gloves when mowing. I buy the Home Depot brand, 3 pair for $10.00. I go through a couple of pair a year doing yard work. When I was young working on the farm I rarely used gloves except when dealing with ropes and animals and hauling hay. The twin and the hair hooks can be rough on the hands. I also used a pair leather chaps, which lasted me six years and were still serviceable when I left for the USAF.
I should have been smarter and wore a long sleeve shirt and a hat. My grandfather did when working on his road grader outdoors (no cab). I never did understand a long sleeve shirt. Now I do. A light cotton shirt will keep a person cooler while working in the sun. Straw hat, heavily ventilated also does wonder for keeping cool. There was wisdom in the older generation.
Everyone here in the desert covers up and wears hats year ’round. I wear long sleeves outdoors in summer, and it IS cooler. I hate hats, but sometimes wear one.
When working in the desert my grandfather also used a canvas water bag. A large one that he filled each morning. By the time he got to his work location in the high desert that water was really cold. He kept it hanging on the outside of his truck bed on the journey. Even during the heat of the day the water was still quite cool. That evaporation really did work. A wide brim hat, long sleeves, I don’t remember him ever wearing gloves. His hands were like leather. He used to tamp his pipe while still hot with his finger and the flame from the match that wrapped around his fingers when he lit the pipe did not seem to faze him.
Wrt gloves, one of my lots was a mix of odds and ends, and there were several pairs of the stretchy knit ones with leather fingers and palms. So if you prefer leather for the contact surface you can still get the stretchy comfortable part too. High end gloves- that make technical claims about anti vib or cut resistance, are available in just lefts or rights. I sold a bunch last year. Took forever to sell, but they eventually went.
I used to wear the classic Wells Lamont leather drivers for heavy work but the smaller fingers were always too big and flopped around. I’ve got wide palms and stubby fingers (no hair tho) and gloves were always problematic.
After writing the post, I had to think of all the special purpose gloves I already use. I have welding gloves, and they weren’t cheap. Long rubber chemical resistant gloves. the padded “mechanics” style. Cut resistant knit. Heat resistant gauntlets. Goatskin drivers. Lined leather drivers style (that I wear in the cold). ski gloves. and some of the very thin coated knit for general work. LOTS of gloves. Then new bunch of assorted styles will fit right in.

What? No Baby Yoda?
I have to admit that the end of the second season of Baby Yoda was totally cool !
Of course, I did not watch the rebel series since it is animated and I did not like it. But it would have helped me with the timing.
Well, it was sunny and nice earlier, when I was still sleeping. We just got a nice heavy shower, but it stopped after only about 20 minutes. Now everything is wet. Joy.

FYI Eddie Bauer has up to 60% off. Their medium weight jacket that I’ve had for 20 years is starting to show some wear at the cuffs. I’ll be astounded if the replacement holds up as well, but if it fits properly I’ll feel a lot better at $87 than $199.
WRT gloves, I’m with Nick. There are 3-4 types that I buy multiple pairs of when I find them on sale. That includes one model of Wells Lamont Hydrahyde water resistant leather gloves, winter ski gloves, etc. To paraphrase Johnny Cochran: “If the glove don’t fit, it ain’t worth spit.” Nothing more annoying than gloves that aren’t big enough. I was in a Northern Tool a while back and looked at some mechanics gloves that came in two sizes: Large and One Size Fits Most, aka Useless and Even More So.
I try to keep multiple pairs in each vehicle, including some 6-mil nitrile gloves in ziplocs in the toolboxes just to keep hands clean if you have to pop the hood or mess with a tire, and a pair to handle lumber. Not having to pick splinters or clean fluids off is a big plus.
Of course, I did not watch the rebel series since it is animated and I did not like it. But it would have helped me with the timing.
On the surface, “Rebels” is a kiddie show, but, at times, pre-Baby Yoda, Dave Filoni delivered some of the deepest, darkest “Star Wars” material ever put on screen in some of the episodes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ziLWPlVN0MM
The time travel plot device introduced in “Rebels” has to factor into “The Mandalorian” if Disney really is serious about fixing the franchise … and, more importantly to The Mouse, the toy sales.
“Rebels” finale also featured the last appearance of Grand Admiral Thrawn, who Rosario Dawson’s Asohka name dropped in her Baby Yoda episode.
I was a huge fan of starwars and now I can’t even be bothered to keep the factions straight.

My 20+ year old Eddie Bauer tan heavy canvas jacket with a button inner liner has HOLES in it. I’ve been looking for a new one and cannot find anything I like in XXL tall. I paid about $150 for it back in 1996 ? 1999 ? at the Eddie Bauer store in First Colony Mall. That has gone by the wayside too.
I wear light canvas XXL work gloves with gripping dots on them. My hands are really having trouble gripping things nowadays.

“A Simple Test for the Extent of Vote Fraud with Absentee Ballots in the 2020 Presidential Election: Georgia and Pennsylvania Data”
https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3756988
“This study provides measures of vote fraud in the 2020 presidential election. It first compares Fulton county’s precincts that are adjacent to similar precincts in neighboring counties that had no allegations of fraud to isolate the impact of Fulton county’s vote-counting process (including potential fraud). In measuring the difference in President Trump’s vote share of the absentee ballots for these adjacent precincts, we account for the difference in his vote share of the in-person voting and the difference in registered voters’ demographics. The best estimate shows an unusual 7.81% drop in Trump’s percentage of the absentee ballots for Fulton County alone of 11,350 votes, or over 80% of Biden’s vote lead in Georgia. The same approach is applied to Allegheny County in Pennsylvania for both absentee and provisional ballots. The estimated number of fraudulent votes from those two sources is about 55,270 votes.”

“Nurse who stripped off his PPE to have sex with a male coronavirus patient in hospital bathroom is suspended in Indonesia”
You’re kidding yourself if you think it doesn’t happen in Texas.
The last time I checked, unlike most other states, Texas doesn’t prohibit nurses from having sexual relationship with patients, and the hospitals are only required to “discourage” the practice.
We got hip deep in Texas nursing law about 16 years ago when my father-in-law passed and his nurse anesthesiologist at UT Southwestern collected most of his life insurance. The nurses in and around the transplant program run quite a tidy racket.
Texas law has moved back and forth across the legal/illegal line so nurses having sex with patients may once again be illegal.

I wear leather gloves when cutting the lawn, to cut down on the vibration. I stopped doing that the year I broke my hand; turns out an hour or two of lawn mower vibration each week was better for rehabilitating my extremely stiff finger joints than the prescribed physiotherapy. While it’s not currently necessary, I’m keeping it in mind for later use.
Agree. Handwashing just doesn’t cut it. You need the gloves. Especially for habaneros and the like.
I did see an Alton Brown episode where (assuming I’m remembering it correctly) if you expose capsaicin to bleach it converts it to a salt and it can be easily rinsed away. So, perhaps the trick is to submerge your hands in bleach water? Sounds like less of a hassle to just use the gloves though.
Happy New Year from Boston Dynamics.
@gavin
There’s a happy medium.
I rototilled a new yard once. Young, foolish and no gloves. Came home from work, changed clothes, tilled until dark–for more than a month. The last tenth of an acre was pure hardpan left after the builder stole the topsoil off my lot. Tiller would bounce if I had the throttle too high.
When I got done I had trigger finger in both pinkies–flex them toward the palm and they would pop.
Congress doesn’t vote to accept the EC results. They sit and listen as each state’s votes are announced and tabulated. They would only vote if there is a written objection handed up (signed by a member of the House and a Senator). They have 2 hours to debate and vote whether to accept the results from the state, meeting separately. They don’t vote by state, but by member.
Another protester car ambush – Update
I watched the video. The car was not blocked by another vehicle to the front or back. The smart thing to do was to drive away, slowly at first, making sure any scum in the car’s path would know the driver was serious. After a few feet of slowness, accelerate normally and GTFO. New Yorkers are stupidly rely on the authorities, so the helpless behavior is not surprising. The outcome would have been different in most other states.
I had a friend who was threatened by an angry pedestrian, who opened his hood, thinking that would prevent him from driving forward. Mistake. He eased forward, pushing the guy aside. The guy was very surprised, and yelled his surprise. My friend drove a hundred feet and stopped to close the hood, and the pedestrian didn’t attempt to pursue him. This happened in the 1960s, when most cars did not have inside hood releases. Yes, the pedestrian could have been armed, but not likely in that situation. My friend said that if he had feared that the pedestrian had been armed he would have accelerated much more aggressively to disable him.
That’s really interesting. I might dig around in the medical journals to see if anyone’s noticed that effect.
I seem to recall a few years a go there was a fad? of exercising on a vibrating platform, or something like that, which purported miraculous health benefits. The memory is hazy, can anyone recall more details?
@Ray: Where in the high desert?
I use rotary tools occasionally. These are mostly air powered grinders and sanders. The ones that vibrate, such as an orbital sander, cause my hands to tingle for a while if I use them for an hour or more. Thick gloves help. I had not heard of anti vibration gloves, but will look for them.
The glove industry has come up with a huge variety of gloves. One of my favorites are the knit stretch cotton-polyester gloves that are sold ten to a package, and have been around at Harbor Freight for at least thirty years. These have enough polyester to make them stretchy, but not enough to melt on a hot surface, such as an exhaust manifold. They don’t have much dexterity, but do a great job protecting against hot or even cold surfaces. They are pretty good at cut resistance, and very good at abrasion resistance.
Don’t forget that it is possible to wear different kinds of gloves at the same time. I sometimes wear the stretch gloves under heavier nitrile gloves. This is good for reaching into a slimy area on a car and applying force to a stubborn fastener. Slipping and muck protection. All are cheap enough to be discarded, but I sometimes wash the stretch gloves. They last me a long time.
I have been disappointed in leather gloves lately. As some here have pointed out, they don’t fit very well, and do wear out quickly. I need to try some of the newer mechanic’s gloves to see if they are as good as some say.

Gloves have gotten very technical. Most of the ones I got in the auction have a variety of ANSI and OSHA stamps on them.

European laws led the way on reducing vibration in the workplace. Since it’s impossible to engineer some tools to be vibe free, the next remedy is PPE. Vibration injuries are very real and can be lasting.

Adler? The raging hypocrite who staged a sizable wedding for his daughter here in town before taking everyone down to Mexico to continue the party?
At one point, Adler did a press conference regarding the latest lockdowns … from his hotel room in Mexico.
Not that anyone cares in Austin. The town is very much “do as I say, not as I do”, and Alder was reelected in the middle of a crisis regarding contamination in the water supply in 2018.
UT football season is over as of last night so the city is engaged in antics which they were cowardly to attempt prior to the clock ticking down at the Alamo Bowl.

A car, clear to the front, is a 3000 lb. slow moving bullet. Absent firearms from the OPFOR, just drive away.
I think purposely hitting people with your car is a pretty big hurdle of conditioning to overcome. You need to think about it, game it out in your head, and give yourself permission ahead of time.
In contrast, I shoot man shaped targets all the time, and have a lot of practice pulling the trigger.

Amazon has mountain house freeze dried in stock. Prices are high of course, but competitive. Over $50 for #10 can of meat. Sometimes a lot over. But it’s in stock. Freezedrieds should be a part of everyone’s preps. For me they are in the “we have to leave, and we better carry our own food and water” category, mainly because of weight and convenience. For you they might be in the “we can boil water over a campfire in the back yard, but not much else cooking wise” category.
They are light weight, only need water for prep, and are universally regarded as some of the best tasting available freeze drieds.

I would have to be very desperate to drive into anywhere, but would not hesitate to drive out of anywhere. If anyone I value is my passenger, then anyone outside would be advised to make way, be pushed out of the way, or worse. Fear and protection are powerful motivators. I would sooner run someone over than shoot them. The first is just overcoming an obstacle. The second is much more serious in my mind.
As for training, paper targets of any shape are just paper targets. Driving or shooting require advance decisions, then automatic action without thinking or hesitation. Surviving the incident without injury is of the utmost importance. Once a mob gets the upper hand, the outcome is dire.

$1,000.00. That is the deductible on my uninsured motorist insurance and collision insurance.
Not good at all – however, it is my understanding that Mexico is sending their COVID patients to American hospitals: they bring people to the border, where they call an ambulance. Air lifts to more distant hospitals have been on-going since May. Not just illegal aliens, but also all of the dual citizens, people with green cards, ex-pats, etc.
There has not been much press about it, nor have the press reported honestly, but I assume that even President Trump has approved helping Mexico cope with this emergency (he has always spoken with great compassion about the need to care for sick people). Their hospitals just are not up to the job, and we can’t leave them to suffer when a couple of weeks of treatment can make all the difference.

The Aggie engineer whose guys rebuilt my single bay garage door for me from 8 ft wide to 10 ft wide in August ??? is Hispanic. He has lost his 80+ year old father-in-law, mother-in-law, and a disabled brother-in-law who all lived in the same house here in Fort Bend County to the Covid. They were all apparently fairly obese and diabetic. Three out of the 300 Covid deaths in Fort Bend County, it made the front page of our west side of the Brazos River newspaper. Like I said, I never would have had the guts to drive into that gas station protest or any protest. First off, I would not drive into a line of people blocking the gas station under normal situations, I would look for another gas station.
However, if those same people are blocking me and getting ready to break into my vehicle, I will go right through them. And my F-150 4×4 with skid plates, unlike that BMW SUV in the previous video, will go right over a bunch of bicycles in the road in front of me. I suspect that BMW SUV would have gotten stuck on those bicycles had it gone forward.
Shoot, I drove my F-150 into the bayou behind my office property the other day just to take a look at the bank without 30+ ft of water in it. I could not find a place to turn around so I had to back it up in 4×4 with tree branches scratching for about 100 yards (300 ft). There were no paint scratches !

We canceled our family gathering on Thursday with my parents since one of my employees has the covid (he got from his schoolteacher wife who got it from another schoolteacher) and I talked to him last Monday (Dec 21) in his office.
I asked him today if he wanted me to throw a bunch of MREs at his front door while I drove by at 30 mph but he said no. The MREs are only out of date by a couple of years.
Bless that family. Such a tragedy.
My husband recently recovered from COVID. He caught it in the nursing home the next county over. He had a rough time, but they were able to treat him there on their isolation wing, and he didn’t have to go to the hospital. The nurses told me they believe they have a less deadly strain of the illness. On the other hand, a local friend of ours, younger than me, died of COVID this past week. Completely unexpected.
The first covid payment was posted to my old bank account in Mississippi. I closed that account in August and the IRS don’t have my current account ID yet so I wonder where my monies went?
Perhaps we should isolate, segregate and contain them. Hey, it worked for the Nazis!
A Pakistani transgender researcher appreciates it very much.
“Poor decision making about gatherings. ”
–yes and also 3rd world living conditions, and pre-germ theory, and alot of them in ‘essential’ jobs like ‘cashier’ or ‘construction worker’. Lots of exposure = more sick.
I’m not sure about Houston, but, as I noted the other day, the demographic also dominates the unskilled or semi-skilled positions in healthcare around Austin.
The media keep trying to tie the disparity in deaths to race. The situation is worrying because if you repeat something on TV often enough, and people will start to believe it … like the 4th generation pure Irish-American being “The Mexican Bobby Kennedy”.
We canceled our family gathering on Thursday with my parents since one of my employees has the covid (he got from his schoolteacher wife who got it from another schoolteacher) and I talked to him last Monday (Dec 21) in his office.

Do you have a VPN for telework? Can the employee still be productive?
The new job’s VPN was still down this afternoon. It isn’t a big deal except for Jira and HR-type information. We host the code on a paid Github account and use Outlook for company mail.
I took Microsoft’s SSTP protocol apart for a grad school project. It is ok security with minimum admin for a small-medium business, much better than PPTP, but the protocol is still an SSL VPN. Al Jazeera uses the IPSec client I worked on at The Death Star — they know what to use when your employee’s life depends on the security.
I tried one at a holistic chiropractor in New Mexico. It vibrates and tilts, you just try to stay upright to get exercise.
Five hour Zoom session yesterday to get up to speed on, uh, Zoom. Daughter number 3 runs our Zoom virtual training, but is expecting late Feb. I’m picking up the slack. We do dual languages, polls, chat, Q&A, panels, and more. Not hard to learn, just a lot, and Murphy rears his ugly head when we go live. I’ll be blamed regularly for ef ups. I’m not complaining. Goobermint bucks keep us going. Schools want to keep engaged to keep fleecing tax payers pockets.

Toll road projects were booming at the last job. The road I worked on in Northern VA just got sold as part of a 50% stake in a package of toll roads in the state to private investors. $2.1 billion for half of 50 years of toll revenue.
Government is a growth industry.

Nope. We are not set up for that, I have no idea how to even make one work. He was off for vacation until Jan 4 anyway.
I still have one employee using http://www.gotomypc.com when she wants (the office manager). She actually came in today to check her mail and stuff. I won’t allow anyone else do that anymore. Her office pc crashes all the time (Windows 7 x64 with 16 Gb ram).
When I drive by a low rise apartment complex, with a dozen young hispanic men out front, and 4 satellite dishes on every balcony, I am pretty sure they are living at least 2 to a bedroom and more likely 4. Each dish is a separate paid account, with an adult signing for it. So at least 4 unrelated males per apartment.
Houses with 5 or more work trucks in the driveway. That’s a pretty good indicator of joint household.

Classic Firearms has STEEL CASE 9mm FMJ for 50c/rd in cases of 1000…. they are still in stock despite the email going out earlier in the day. Wonder why?/sarc

We keep our source code in 12 GB in CVSNT on a file server behind two NATs. Actually three NATs since we have two DSL lines bonded together on a Peplink. We have been using CVSNT since 1993 (it was a 10base2 Lantastic LAN network back then).
Our company email is hosted on gmail by pushing our main domain MX record to gmail. Works awesomely since 2005 ??? when Google asked me if we wanted to try out their new email service for domains. So everyone can check their email over the intertubes using the standard gmail client.

–like we’re doing with all those old and worn out burdens on society we have warehoused in care homes?
seems like some of the local governments are getting their eugenics on. Always of interest to the left in the US.

Sorry to hear of both of those. Are you able to visit your husband in the nursing home or are they still locked down ? We did not see my father-in-law from March 14 ??? until Sept 1st or so when my wife had them take him to the hospital.

Like Alec Baldwin’s wife being from Boston while she claimed to be born and raised in Spain ?

I ain’t sayin’ it.
Nope Nope.
Absolutely not.
Some fruit is too low hanging.
A useful analysis tool is “what would be different?”. As in,
I don’t know for sure that Andrew Cuomo is trying to relieve some of New York State’s budget deficit by deliberately killing off thousands of the elderly in nursing homes, but what would be different if he were?
Very funny that the URL calls it an “accent controversy”…. Um no. She faked her whole life. Which sucks because of all the half naked babes on the right side of the page at DailyMail, she and Alec seemed to have something good going together. 5 kids together and they look like they actually like each other.
Wonder if he knew?
n
He knew. He met her parents.
I’d guess that he laughed his backside off the day she “couldn’t remember” the English word for cucumber.

Picked up a Casio Pathfinder Hunting Timer watch. It’s a little computer with a bunch of settings. Give it your GMT offset, lat/lon, and current date and it calculates sunrise and set times and moon phases, and then gives suggested best times for hunting and fishing….
It’s ugly as sin, in brown plastic with a brown camo band that mainly just looks dirty. Cool idea though.
n
It is Patch Wednesday at WinSim. I just put up version 16.07a for a couple of customers. I live to patch.
One of the fixes touched three of our four base flash routines that we consider to be concerning so we have to run additional testing to verify the fix did not break anything else. I just love performing all of the additional testing, 636 known tests that have to be verified by hand after the testing script have done its thing.

That’s why he’s in Florida golfing rather than addressing the vaccine distribution mess…
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/current-rate-it-ll-be-10-years-americans-adequately-vaccinated-n1252486
Earlier this year NBC and the rest of the mass media inundated us with “expert” opinions that a vaccine would take at least a year to develop.
Administering the vaccine is done at the state level. Some states are doing better than others.
I see Camel Toe “I ain’t going to take any Trump-developed vaccine” Harris managed to get to the head of the line today.
Yet Pence got his more than a week ago.
That’s a lot of data:
https://www.osnews.com/story/132794/fujifilm-creates-a-magnetic-tape-that-can-store-580-terabytes/
Pence is in the line of succession, Kamala is not. Politics and personal feelings aside, there are legal and practical considerations, and continuity of government is a pretty big deal.
Frankly if Trump had the vaccine, I’d expect Pence to do without, for the same reason they don’t eat the same meals or fly on the same plane. Trump had whatever antibodies you get from having the wuflu though so he passed on the vaccine.
All of this assumes that those august personages are in fact getting a vaccine, and getting the same one the public gets. There are more reasons for the show than for actually getting it, considering no one at that level has died from chinaflu. A suspicious person would be forgiven for assuming the line jumpers and prominent personages have some underlying health concern that puts them in a high risk group, and that’s what’s driving the show, considering their vocal opposition to anything Trump endorses.
My position is still “you first”.

Throwback to “The Fifth Element” when Bruce Willis’s character bursts into a room, shoots the leader of the attacking aliens and asks, “Anyone else want to negotiate?”
Answer was no…
Anyone else notice that Trump gained weight and looks MORE normal* after 4 years of being President? Every other recent President is sucked dry and hollowed out by the job.
no conclusions, just an observation based on a picture in the DM yesterday.

*orange hair and skin is WAY more subdued. Hair looks normal most of the time. Even discounting (or accounting for) media manipulation, he doesn’t look worn out.
Well, shoot. My home pc video board fried itself while the wife was using it this afternoon. There are some huge orange stripes across the monitor and winders is having fits. Sigh. I sure am having a lot of hardware issues lately.
A congresscritter elect from LA died yesterday from COVID.
New guy, not swamp creature, wasn’t even sworn yet. The glee from the left at his death should be enough to cause anyone sane to distance themselves from the left, but it won’t.
