cool and damp. [64F and 99%RH at 9]
Yesterday was nicely cool during the day. I wore a sweatshirt with my shorts. Good working weather.
Kids decided they wanted to have a couple of friends over for a sleepover so I ended up making dinner, and then we had a fire in the pit. They made s’mores and I made a cherry hobo pie. Good stuff. This morning will be pancakes or waffles with sausage and maybe eggs for my wife.
I worked in the garage and driveway most of the afternoon but you couldn’t tell by looking. I actually did make progress, but there is still a long slog ahead.
In the process of digging out one corner of the garage I found some stuff I’d misplaced, so that was good. Found the item I sold on ebay, and got that ready to ship. Sometimes I’m selling items that are more than a year old. Sometimes I have a hard time finding them when they do finally sell. Fortunately I remembered where this one was and got it right out. I tend to ‘clump’ things. I may not remember exactly where an item or tool or supply is, but I know where I stack those sorts of things and that usually narrows it down.
I’ve got several pickups today, so hopefully my wife will find something to do with the kids while I’m out. And I hope it’s not throwing out my stuff…..
I better get to it.

My observation is the site is slow often but not always. Also I can’t seem to keep signed on, but have discovered if I put my username and email in on a comment it correctly lists it as mine. This has been going on for a coulple of weeks. Also it then shows me as signed on but that goes away if I reload the page.
From @Greg yesterday:
So, who is Herr Fancy Lad Company ?
German. Transportation. Energy. Large presence in Texas.
Vehicle *automation*, cars running under central control, is within reach given current technology, but the problem is finding enough bright people and paying them sufficiently to write the software.
*Autonomous* vehicles, where the car drives itself, are a long way off.
Ah, that may be my biggest customer. If so, they are undergoing a divorce right now and diverging all of their fossil fuels products right now. Compressors, pipelines, etc, etc, etc. Cause, fossil fuels bad.
From @Greg yesterday:
“Light Karo” is the opposite of “dark Karo”. “Lite Karo” is a 33% reduced sugar abomination.
Rhetorical question: Does it really matter with HFC? How do they make insanity mode sugar 33% less insane.
Pecan pie?
Yes, the wife is making a pecan pie. I thought that reduced calorie Karo was strange for that purpose but, I am not a cook / baker.
BTW, all of the Karo bottles are marked “0 g of HFCS”. So they are corn syrup without the high fructose.
And the wife is doing the exchange herself. Apparently I am not be trusted.
From BH at the Fort Bend Herald yesterday:
“Here’s a shout out to all of those people in the laundromat talking, texting, and swiping their new iPhone 11 Pro Max: You could’ve purchased a washer and drier for the same $800 you spent on that phone.”
“Absolutely smashing: Musk shows off Tesla’s ‘bulletproof’ low-poly pickup, hilarity ensues”
https://www.theregister.co.uk/2019/11/22/smashing_tesla_cybertruck/
“The “pressurised version” of the Cybertruck is also supposedly the “official truck of Mars”. So let’s hope they sort those windows out. ®”
Yup, my thoughts exactly.

But they have a pretty good safety record ?

I saw a pretty nice newish (but not fancy front-loading) set on the donations loading dock at the Goodwill last week. Nicer than mine.
My washer is coming apart again. I may have a qualified professional out to put it back together properly, replacing all the screws and missing parts. I’ve written here before about why the washer hasn’t been right in 18 years.

Whoa, is that RJ before Thanksgiving Day ?
I worked in the garage and driveway most of the afternoon but you couldn’t tell by looking. I actually did make progress, but there is still a long slog ahead.
Took a load of stuff over to the new used house yesterday using the new truck. Then I took out the 65 gallon trashcan full of construction trash. It weighed about 100 lbs, I hope that the trash guys took it today.
Then I filled in the dog holes in the backyard from the previous dogs. Then I treated the 30+ fire ant mounds in the yard. In 1.2 acres, one can have a LOT of fire ants.
Now we need to finish the front shower conversion from 34 inch by 34 inch to 38 inch by 60 inch ADA. And paint the front bathroom. And get new carpets and luxury vinyl tile.
I almost have the wife persuaded into luxury vinyl tile for our bedroom. Because, puppies and new carpet do not mix very well.

Feral hogs are very dangerous.
The son just told me that he is going to buy a new Toyota Camry this week. I told him that he needs an F-150. He asked me why. I said that Camry’s cannot drive over road medians. He said oh, flooding. I said flooding and riots (he lives inside the beltway in Houston).
He is still going to buy a Camry.
A F-150 can easily clear a body, several if necessary.
Has anyone done studies of the best tires and 4WD/AWD/etc setup for driving over the maximum number of peaceful teen protestors blocking a road? Asking for a friend.
Do not get the Roomba automagic carpet cleaner, they will spread dog #2 all over the room.
If you’re gonna go up against protesters, a brush guard is recommended…

He is still going to buy a Camry.
If he can afford the upgrade, the “Sport” mode available in some trim levels will (SE? XSE?) supposedly avoid some of the acceleration issues I’ve seen with my 2018.
I need to take the car out to a parking lot and become comfortable with the manual shifting.
Feral hogs are very dangerous.
Florida has an underground gambling tradition known as the “Hog and Dog Rodeo”, pit bulls vs. feral hogs in an arena. The pit bull doesn’t automatically win.
OK, what is the recommended wifi box to hook up to my new cable modem box ?
@lynn, something by ubiquiti, with mesh so that you can add more spots for coverage as needed.

@lynn, something by ubiquiti, with mesh so that you can add more spots for coverage as needed.
So, something like this ?
https://www.amazon.com/Ubiquiti-Networks-802-11ac-Dual-Radio-UAP-AC-PRO-US/dp/B015PRO512/?tag=ttgnet-20
If you need a brush guard also opt for a skid plate. Keeps body parts from getting lodged and requiring later removal. Miss one part and in a few days the odor is bad and attracts vermin.
@lynn, that looks like what I put in last. I put several of them in to cover a 10k sqft house and courtyard with garage apartment…. make sure the package you get includes PoE injector. ubiquiti PoE isn’t quite standard, so you want their injector.
Check pricing on B&H too, over $50 is free ship, with no tax.
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1184038-REG/ubiquiti_networks_uap_ac_lite_unifi_ap_ac.html
is the one I bought in March.

And pigs.
Thanks for the tip.

My current WiFi router is an Asus RT-AC66R. They don’t sell that one anymore, but Asus has done a good job patching firmware. I guess I could get a more current router, but, beyond minor issues with backwards compatibility with G-only devices, the Asus doesn’t give me any trouble.
I have ye olde Linksys WRT54GL running DD-WRT for WiFi B/G devices we still have around the house. That device just works and will probably keep working until I pull the plug, but only at G speeds. I’d use it as the gateway at the cable modem, but Ethernet is 100 Mbps, not Gig.
Whatever you buy, make sure that the receipt/packing slip clearly indicates that the hardware is *yours*, and never lose the proof of purchase. I’ve written before about my experience with Comcast in Vantucky claiming my cable modem was theirs.
“I was *broke* when we bought this POS for $40. You wouldn’t give customers something this bad for $5/month.”
“We issued those to customers at one time.”
B&H now charges tax for out of state purchases. Seem that Idaho filed a lawsuit against Wayfair.com over no sales tax and won. The states greed knows no bounds.

The Supreme Court recently reversed the National Bellas Hess decision, allowing the states to collect sales taxes on purchases from companies which do not operate within their boundaries.
Roberts was once again part of the liberal majority there, but Ginsberg, the tax attorney’s wife, voted ‘no’ on reversing the decision. She tends to be more conservative on money issues sitting in the Payola seat.
