No rain yesterday, and a nice cool breeze during the sunny and warm day. Really nice day spent at the beach with family and kids. FEMA national forecast has us in a clear pocket for the next two days. Maybe some weather in TX when we get back that will make the final approach interesting…
We’ll leave the Cape today, but have to overnight south of Boston. United cancelled our original flight, and the only options to replace it were bad, so we delayed a day to get back on our original nonstop, just a day later.
I realized today why my otherwise smart and fairly together FIL is so messed up politically- he watches CNN non-stop and listens in the car. He thinks they’re objective news. Really. I pointed out that I watch a guy on youtube fix shoes that has more subs than CNN’s average audience. I don’t think he believed me. Since CNN and their pundits are sure that Trump will lose, I’m gonna call it for Trump. They’ve been wrong about every thing else, why would they get that right? He also reads every tell all book about government that the left puts out and believes every word, while confident that he doesn’t need to read any of the right tell alls, because they won’t be anything but lies and spin. His mind’s made up and he gets confirmation in every broadcast. I wonder if there are enough of him out there to make a difference?
I’ve managed to talk to a couple family members and some strangers, all seem pretty sure something bad is coming- minimum of financial badness, maximum of SHTF. Anecdote not data, but…
I’m ready to be back home getting ready for whatever comes. I’ve let too much slip this year.
Keep stacking, and let me know what you got done this week.

I’ve pointed out before that my GenX friends and I have mothers straight out of “I, Tonya”.
One friend’s mother is such a whack job that she ended up as “Worst Person In The World” on Oberman’s MSNBC show one week, arguing in a Tea Party meeting in FL that the camps from the 50s under the Interstates in S. Florida should be revived to hold the new wave of illegal aliens.
(Not unreasonable, but radical in the modern era.)
I told my distraught friend to relax — with a 0.0 share, maybe 30-40,000 people saw that broadcast, tops. He’s a hardcore lib so he never thought about the numbers before, but the idea seemed to make him feel better.

70 something in New England? More so than anywhere else, that generation is pining for the days of “Bobby”.
Even halfway across the country, I think that demographic’s obsession is how Texas almost ended up with Robert Francis as Senator thanks to clever make up and tenuous family connections to “Camelot”.
They want to believe. 50 years of denial that Bobby Kennedy would have made a cr*ppy President.
@Nick – Maybe you should have screened “Chappaquiddick” for the kids this week and visited the site as an educational exercise. 🙂
(I’m amazed that movie even got made, much less with a quality cast. Ed Helms?!? What? Does he no longer value his career?)
On second thought, that might have been going too far with the in laws.
I previously mention the last trip where the kids asked who the picture in the airport was, and I told them a murderer, thief, and con artist…. (Teddy). Wife backed me up on that one.
We talked about Chappaquidick this trip. Daughter 1 was incensed that he didn’t get punished and didn’t understand how someone could do what he did. That he got rewarded was even worse.
I’m afraid my cynicism is catching…

The reward could have been worse. The push to have the 80 Dem convention brokered to give Uncle Ted the nomination was *very* intense. History minimizes what was going on that week as it became clear at the year mark that the Ayatollas were going to wait and see the outcome of the election before giving up the hostages at the embassy in Iran.
I clearly remember that it came down to Jimmy Carter’s choice about releasing his delegates before the first roll call vote, and the old Sunday School teacher did the right thing for the country. Thank God.
Camelot dies hard. Being from GA, Jimmy didn’t care about the legend.
We had another interview through yesterday.
The verdict is still out, but the individual had a “Visualization” diploma from a name Texas school.
I don’t think the schools are doing anyone a service with that degree. The person was the second 20-something I’ve met struggling to break into IT after studying a cirriculum under that name at a big Texas school and finding the demand and salaries in the video game industry (point of the degree) lacking.
What really blew me away was the lack of substance to the CS minor when I did a little research on the Interwebs. From *that* school? Really? No networking, database, or Sipser? Programing language design class optional? What is CS about the minor?
I know the big school in town is playing the OPT diploma mill game with their CS Masters, but that’s the school with the mascot featuring the long-ish horns where CGI gave up recruiting because the salary/performance ratio just wasn’t there. I expected better of a CS minor at the name I saw yesterday, but I learn something new every day.
The crazy man with the gun at the school playground yesterday evening was charged with a display of a gun (misdemeanor) and a terroristic threat (felony). I was hoping for beating by the cops but they seem to be professionals. Several of the kids parents (he threatened a couple of dozen kids at the school) are very unhappy.

So is that a member of the press or a never Trumper ?
Shooting at Walmart, El Paso? Victims total 22?
Check Drudge and your foreign tabloids first, of course,
but it’s reported in detail here:

Seems to be a lot of flybys lately.
More and better telescopes all over the world. Plus, a lot more amateurs who do high level work.
Our late host used to discuss the subject of high level amateur astronomy frequently before he developed vertigo and seemed to lose interest in things beyond prepping. I remember at least one posting where he discussed why the flybys seemed to be increasing.
When you work at HEB you get what they call a Perks Card. I always called it a Happy Card. It’s good for 10% off of store brands. I would have preferred a raise but I wasn’t asked.
Folks on break would come to check out at the business center. Ok, man, where’s your happy card? I’d get the “it’s just a crummy 10%” and I say, well, it covers the sales tax and at a nickle off per soda and you have two a day, you get a free soda a week. “Oh. You’re weird”.
Lead Cash Controller? Weird? Oh, hell yeah. Counting pennies is part of the job and I was one of the “normal” Cash Controllers I’ve met from other stores.
So…. there’s a week before Thanksgiving where your happy card is good for 20% off.
I watched prices…. I never noticed anything being jacked up because of any holiday other than bags of ice…. I think that was the ice company doing that.
I would make my lists. I’d have the Market order six boxes of 1# 90/10 hamburger chubs and keep them frozen, please. After I ended my shift, I would fill a basket with canned goods with stuff we eat. So much that the belt at checkout would have to be pushed. I did that for a couple of days. The first day was a good start and the second day would be my fill the shelf list. Then the stuff from Market. Then a day of topping off stuff like mayo, mustard, and steak sauce. And bacon and frozen stuff like chicken and french fries. to stuff the freezer.
20% off. Drop $2000 in a week. Then buy nothing but bread, produce, and beer for the next year.
What brought all this up? Mom’s been in the nursing home a couple of years now. Several months before she went, she decided “no more salads, ick”. Never mind I had just bought several bottles of each flavor of Hill Country Fare salad dressing. Anyway.
I have a couple of tomatoes and an avocado that need to be eaten tonight. I brought in a bottle of Italian dressing. Use by 9/16. We’re pushing 9/19 pretty hard. Seems to have darkened a little. Tastes fine. A bit sweet but I’ve cut out all the sugar I can, so, that’s me. I need to test the other flavors.
The only canned goods I have leak are tomato paste. The bad cans seep through the vertical seam in the can. Canned fruit? Oh, watch that stuff… one year past date and it’s bulging and leaking… if you are lucky…. otherwise it’s spraying from a pinhole all over the room.

Anything acidic.
We had pina colada mix develop a slow leak and make a huge mess in our pantry. My wife is bad about paying attention to this kind of stuff so I end up on clean up detail.
Ever since then, I go through the shelves at least once a year.
The HEB Macaroni and Cheese generic of Kraft Dinner *is* old school Kraft whereas the name brand is a pale imitation of what it used to be 30 years ago.
The Celbriturds and ProgLibTurds are out in force to confiscate all gubs. ProgLibTurd Prez candidate Moulton (who? probably a 0%er: “We cannot allow this to keep happening in America. Citizens don’t need guns to protect them from government—they need the government to step up and protect them from guns.” So begins a soft tyranny.

El Paso? They’re hiding something — gut instinct.
Of course Robert Francis is on the case. Is the mall one of his in-laws’ properties?
Billionare or 100-millionare, Robert Francis wife is heir to a *lot* of money based on real estate in and around El Paso.

Punk drove a long ways to the “Mexican Walmart” to kill a bunch of
Mexicans who crossed the border legitimately with money to spend on stuff to take back home.
20 minutes? 20 freaking minutes for the cops to arrive? And no one in the store shot back?
Gun free zone or not, what are the chances of that in TX? If there was a white citizen anywhere in that store, I can’t imagine there not being an armed one.
Not a single ‘banger carrying illegally?
And people, RUN HIDE FIGHT doesn’t include instagramming or streaming. WTF is wrong with you?
I haven’t had a chance to go through the reports or watch the video and may not, but that has to be something besides get the hell out when the shooting starts as a takeaway.
n
The media will make him famous, and the politicians will dance in the blood of the victims.
n
Fame and dancing.
Count on that.
I heard a story about a Walmart employee in uniform who
almost got shot by a police officer, well after the cops had
called all clear, after an unarmed crook escaped through
the store. Crook was well described as a race other than
that of the employee who was reporting back to his work station,
and so on…
There are other dangers in these situations that need to be
considered, too.

Appearances notwithstanding, the Left has no monopoly on the crazy and the stupid.
