If you like 48F and sunny, that is. Beats rain, and maybe I’ll be able to get some decor down and put away.
Late start today. Kids are sneaky little ninjas when they think they can watch some unauthorized TV. Loud as 10 people in a bar most of the time, but now I know they can be quiet and go 10 minutes without fighting. Silly kids, should never have tipped their hands.
Speaking of kids, we’ve got a basketball game today at the Y. Noisy, crowded, and gun free…. joy. And a great example of prog thinking, membership cost varies with income, but facility and programs are the same for all.
I better get started if I don’t want to go in my ‘jammies’.

I’m off the NRG today. Go Texans!
OK, the tv show “Blue Bloods” set in New York City with Tom Selleck is dead to me. In the second episode of season 1 they had a gang enter a subway car and rob people. A construction guy who was doing a job had cash in his pocket and was carrying a gun. When a gang member grabbed a woman to rape her, he pulled out his gun and shot the gang member. The gang member dies. So who do the police go after ? Yup, the good samaritan.
The wife thinks that I am crazy. She is probably correct.
I’m off the NRG today. Go Texans!
Have fun ! It will be crowded and noisy and many thousands of beers will be served. And hopefully the Texans will win.
Any of my fellow houstonians know why the cops are going house to house in Galena Park, asking for surveillance video from an entire neighborhood? Second day in a row that a bunch of cops are on the radio going thru the whole neighborhood.

It’s a big club, and we’re not in it:

Might be related to the road rage shooting and death of the mother and daughter.

Maybe, I thought that walmart was a bit further south and east….
They are spending a LOT of time and effort, so it must be something big, and nothing in the news.

Some years ago, I lived only a few thousand feet from here–

I still have relatives living there. From the looks of it, the neighborhoods around there have encroached significantly.
It’s only a couple of miles to Compton and Inglewood, but the areas near the beach are pretty nice, or were…

Moving west eight years ago, I stopped for a night at the Four Points in Fairview Heights, IL. Within a year, two violent race-related incidents made national news at the nearby Best Buy and Red Lobster which I could see from the spot where I parked my car.
I actually needed an AC adapter from Best Buy that morning, but they didn’t open until 10 AM so I waited until I was well into Missouri before stopping.

Catch and release into the USA is not border security. This is an invasion.

Blue Bloods IS a cop apologia, but I enjoy it anyway. In the episode the samaritan isn’t prosecuted in the end for anything serious. New York gun law is a cesspool.
Back when I was delaying my own case for a CCW arrest, illegal in this state at that time, there was a real life local pizza delivery driver who shot his robber on TWO occasions over that 30 odd month period. They did give him a hard time, but did not prosecute. The detective who questioned me at booking mentioned that I’d be in less trouble if I HAD shot someone justifiably. Now, THAT is crazy.
“Obama does not have one wall. He has many. He has barricades. He has armed guards entirely blocking the suburban road where he lives. Multiple cement and iron barricades block the road leading up to the Obama mansion. A Secret Service car and agent keep people from entering the stretch of road on both ends approximately 1,000 feet in both directions.”
Yeah, typical. It’s a public road, but it’s closed to the public because Obama lives there.
The American Embassy here used to be the same way, until it was moved (under pressure, I expect) to a more remote location. They used to be in the middle of a neighborhood, and US security blocked off the supposedly private roads. You literally couldn’t even walk past on the sidewalk without being stopped and questioned. Where they are now resembles a fortress more than anything else. You literally cannot take anything but papers into the place, and they provide no place to deposit your stuff. Really great, really welcoming.
If you make so many enemies that you need that kind of security, you’re doing it wrong.

Fixed that for you.
This world is not a safe place and good people need protection.

First, they took away the samaritans gun. A poor man who could not afford to replace it.
Second, they put the samaritan in prison awaiting trial.
The friend of the rapist who was shot had the samaritan stabbed in prison.
Third, the samaritan plea bargained himself to a ten year probated sentence. That is not trivial and will follow you everywhere as it is a felony.
Don’t blame the show, they are trying to be realistic.
