Fri. Sept. 21, 2018 – what did you do to prep this week?

By on September 21st, 2018 in Random Stuff

79F and wet. I hope it’s slightly cooler today, I need to process in all my solar panels.

And that’s what I did to prep. I bought a pickup bed full of little panels. Getting them to work is a project, and I might sell some off to pay for it.

No garden (although I trimmed the citrus trees and the grapevines). No shooting. No stacking. TOTALLY SLACK this week.

So I hope you guys picked up my slack….

The preference would be for Ford to testify next Thursday, and she doesn’t want Kavanaugh in the same room, her attorney told Judiciary Committee

Beyond the issue that Ford has to prove her case, not Kavanaugh disprove her assertions, the accused has a right to face their accuser. This Ford person is a nasty piece of work. She has gotten in deeper than she thought and the democrats that pushed the agenda.

This will not turn out well for Ford and I hope she gets totally blasted and embarrassed. Something that she cannot remember the year, remember the people, guess at who attended, does not know the location, reeks of a made up story.

I would wager there is a democrat behind these accusations and I would not be surprised it is one Pelosi’s crack team of idiots. When people find out that someone falsely accused another person, prodded by some liberal democrat, there should be outrage.

  2. CowboySlim says:

    “presumed innocent until proven guilty”

Actually, somewhat of a misstatement. Jurors are not given a form with two check boxes: Innocent and Guilty.

The boxes are: Not Guilty and Guilty. Consequently the phrase should be: “..assumed innocent until judged not guilty or guilty.”

  3. MrAtoz says:

Ford may very well off herself after the total embarrassment. Then the Dumbo’s can go after Kavanaugh for murder.

“In April, Hrabar led a protest on the home of a DC lobbyist, Jeremy Wiley. Hrabar recounts how she was able to access his address, and the process was potentially criminal:

Hrabar: “And so we ran the license plate, and it was a car registered to Jeremy Wiley, so you have his car parked outside a house that he does own. As of very recently, and someone saw him through the window, which is also…

PV Journalist: “Also, we’re able to run license plates through?”

Hrabar: “You can- We cannot do it officially.””

    -snip-

“So we sent someone a secondary address, and their license plate was outside. And it had a bumper sticker for a school where we knew their kid went to.”

They are building files on their enemies, and their enemies could be YOU and your kids.

Ok, working my way thru my list for today.

Just put a big slab of meat in the slow cooker. 3 pound hunk of chuck roast, yankee pot roast mix, some added veg, and 6 hours, will produce a tasty dinner with little effort.

I did sear the meat in my cast iron pan. The meat was bought on sale, bulk, and frozen.

The only side will be fresh bread, cooked by a robot, from bulk ingredients. I’ll set that up before I leave the house.

Received a check from my consulting/field service day. Still have invoices out.

Ebay sales are picking up, but it’s all smalls so far. I DEFINITELY see a correlation between making new listings and sales. No listing, no sale. Several listings, stuff that was very stale on my shelf finally sells.

Rain has paused, so I need to empty the pickup truck….

Thanks but I am fine. I am taking a day off from work today as I was really tired again yesterday. But, I did go for a mile walk night and towed my dog in her wagon the entire way. The wife stepped into a fire ant bed Monday night while we were talking to a neighbor (the one with the Robert Francis sign) and got bit several times so she is having trouble walking. She went with us and really regretted it.

Z-Nation on the syfy channel is coming back on Oct 5 ! Cool !

Yesterday was three weeks since my heart ablation surgery. My doc told me Wednesday that I could start exercising again. I told him that I had been walking a mile each night since day 6 and he just shook his head. His post surgical instructions were five lbs max for five days and then don’t be stupid. According to the wife, I have been very stupid. Of course, she has known this for decades.

    So full of fail-

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6191483/Father-son-caught-camera-gunning-killing-neighbor-row-trash.html

In most places, exchange of insults is disorderly conduct. Both were committing a misdemeanor.

Wife running the camera knows her husband is the aggressor, and keeps him out of frame, especially at the moment he seems to attack the shirtless guy.

BOTH parties fail to de-escalate. BOTH parties fail to just walk away.

Both parties also engage in a behavior that Rory Miller describes in his book on violence and conflict- they tell you what they are about to do. Violence often comes with a warning. “Come at me and I’ll kill you.”

Angry shirted guy is an idiot. He’s gonna start screaming and threatening TWO armed men? WTF?

Note that he works himself up to the [off camera] attack.

It’s gonna be hard for shirtless guy to claim he “feared for his life or serious bodily harm” when he’s so calm. Otherwise, he’s got a good claim for ‘disparity of force’ since the other guy is bigger and more aggressive.

Shirted guy says he’s gonna “stand my ground” which is about the dumbest thing I’ve heard today.

Shirted guy is the aggressor throughout. He’s bowed up. Several times he blades his body toward shirtless, and steps forward aggressively. You can see how much bigger he is. He repeatedly says he’s gonna kill shirtless, and his son.

One of the bystanders hands SHIRTED guy a baseball bat, so he’s armed when the shooting takes place.

Look at shirted guy’s hands. He’s lost fine muscle control he’s so worked up.

Fiancee’ [camera] says she “steps in between them” — probably because now that shirted has a baseball bat he moves toward shirtless. Which triggers the shooting.

Finally, you can hear the baseball bat hit the ground after the shots, so shirted was definitely holding it.

Disturbing video, but well worth watching if you are a CHL holder.

I’m not sure how this is “sexual assault” when it was voluntary, pecuniary even, and she jumped thru a number of hoops to make it happen…

“The pair met in person at a coffee shop in South Austin before going to a hotel, where Wilson allegedly assaulted the teen and paid her $500 in cash.

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6194077/3D-printed-gun-company-owner-arrested-Taiwan-accused-sexually-assaulting-teen.html

The article has much better writing than previously, as it gets the nation he’s in right, and correctly describes DD as selling the blueprints to guns, not actual guns.

It strikes me that all the evidence they have is digital, the investigation was based on hearsay, and the alleged victim was committing several crimes herself. Wonder if she’ll be prosecuted for any of them?

Look at Anita hill now. She is a university professor of some acclaim. She will never want, having thrown down her life for the cause.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anita_Hill

Dr. Ford will be the same way with her invented memories. She will be the highly paid headliner on women’s rights conferences for the rest of her life.

  13. Ray Thompson says:

She will be the highly paid headliner on women’s rights conferences for the rest of her life

I suspect that is her real motivation. Appearances on various liberal talk shows (The View), interviews on national news outlets, speaking engagements at the estrogen events. Even if what she says is false (I suspect it is false) she will still be in demand at the liberal estrogen events.

Nothing will happen to her if the allegations are false. She can just claim her memory of an event so long ago was incorrect. Yet such vague memory is good enough to accuse someone. She should instead be sued for slander and taken for every dime her and her attorney have between them.

  14. Nick Flandrey says:

I was listening to a talk show on Pacifica radio this afternoon and I was stunned by the vile hatred constantly expressed by the host. Almost every statement was framed to beg the question, slander, or just attack, often for straw man arguments. The guests were no better. Kav was a violent bigot, who will single handedly repeal Roe v Wade, the Repubs are sneakily stuffing judgeships with partisans so they can INVENT LAWS and LEGISLATE FROM THE BENCH for the next 20-30 years!

EVERYTHING is projection with these progressives.

YES, T is stuffing judgeships. That was a campaign promise and one of the reasons he got elected. It’s the EXACT same thing EVERY President does. And FWIW, Conservatives are the LEAST likely to legislate from the bench, which is something the Progs have been doing for DECADES.

“South Austin” is a broad term. Generally, south of the river. Sometimes as far south as Manchacha Road/Street. (“Man-shack” for the Yankees here. 🙂 ) Anyway, at least 8 miles (guessing) from the Domain to south of the river. Down the ever un-pleasant MoPac? Oh, shoot me…. I’m off MoPac at Far West and zigging over to Burnet Rd and at 45th to Lamar. Ok, maybe down to FM2222.

Sounds like he hired a hooker. Eh, he appears to be a good looking guy, but… dang, $500 for some fun? Too much of a looser with the gals to have no luck with UT girls on the Drag?

I forget the name of the hotel but I looked it up and it’s about 3 blocks from the Domain and $175 a night. Plus tax. Ok, Archer Hotel.
The Domain is in north Austin, off of MoPac and a bit south of Braker Lane.

Winging it…. but $800 to get laid seems silly. But I’ve never had that kind of money so what do I know.

I saw a Cadillac commercial this morning. “Get a low mileage lease on an Escalade for as low as $799 a month”. For real? For an effing gussied up Suburban?

Crap. I remember when it was all cow pastures. Burnet Road and US183 was a four way stop sign. One stop sign in Goldwaithe or another wide spot in the road (I forget) but otherwise non stop to Comanche.

Which will happen first, the civil war or the financial apocalypse of the USA ? I am reading a book now where the financial apocalypse in 2024 causes a civil war in the USA. In fact, about a dozen civil wars and the secessions of several states. “Flashback” by Dan Simmons.

I forgot to mention that “Flashback” has Hillary winning the 2016 presidential election. She immediately enacts Medicare for All ™ and lowers the Social Security full retirement age to 57. And, all illegal immigrants become citizens. And a minimum wage of $15/hour. Those items bankrupt the USA government by 2024. Then things get ugly as the states start bankrupting also. By 2034, the USA is a third world country with muslims pouring into the country from the Caliphate of Europe.

I got an email from my Toyota dealer around the corner today. We drove a 2018 Highlander LE V6 about a month ago that they wanted $31,000 for with an MSRP of $34,360. Today’s price is $27,600. That is a good price for a good SUV.

I saw somebody saying recently that the economy is roaring on top but dead under the top layer. I suspect that is a good description.

Double check the V6. I thought those went away in the drive to 54 MPG madness. That is a decent price with a six.

My wife had a loaner RAV4 a few years ago when her 4Runner was in the shop, and the vehicle with that six engine was *fast*. I regret that we did the Exploder instead of a Rav4 or 4Runner. OTOH, we picked up the Exploder before Ford started with the nonsense on those, and I’ll admit it is a nice ride on long trips.

I’ll never use the program to buy again, but I always check the Costco purchase price on a similarly equipped vehicle.

I saw somebody saying recently that the economy is roaring on top but dead under the top layer. I suspect that is a good description.

For about 20% of the population, the economy works pretty well. That’s a good percentage to keep happy so the 1% are safe moving around the countryside, and the gradual decline could go on for a very long time.

The 1% will still track us, however. I’m playing with our new license plate reading tech in Taylor this week, building a toll system for the DC beltway, and the capabilities are impressive … and fast.

That reminds me — I almost quit the other night when I spent three hours waiting for our database team to realize that they needed to turn on their server’s ftp daemon to receive plate images from my system. They finally did getting close to midnight. The good economy makes hiring decent talent tough, and I scared the h*ll out of the product manager around 11 PM when I pulled the CGI card out of my wallet, deliberatly wondering aloud if they would take me back.

I’m only there for the C++. My next career won’t be IT — too many stupid people filling quotas for this and that.

Why do you think that the 1% want to track us ?

BTW, Sugar Land has license plate readers on all major through fares in and out of the city. All cars going in and out of Sugar Land are logged. And, we are getting ready to start logging all license plates in and out of our little 4,067 home subdivision here after our two home invasions in August. We are going to hook up our system to the city system.

Buy stock in hard drive manufacturers. Everything is being logged about us now.

  31. Greg Norton says:

“I’ll never use the program to buy again, but I always check the Costco purchase price on a similarly equipped vehicle.”

    Why?

We were hosed on my wife’s Exploder purchased via Costco. The dealer played games with the purchase price, hid the Costco paperwork, wore us down with a four hour purchase ordeal, and, when we were severely protein/caffeine deprived, let the F&I a**hole slip $6000 worth of extended warranties into the payments via a 2% APR loan from BBVA.

(BBVA is also on my sh*t list for life. They tend to “lose” the payments unless I hand the check/coupon to a teller at a branch.)

In retrospect, we probably should have walked out the moment the Costco paper disappeared, but my wife wanted the car.

Initially, Costco’s auto buying program’s contract vendor’s response was “You were adults who signed a contract”, but they backpedaled on that later when they realized how badly we were screwed and I called Costco proper to cancel our “Executive” memership. The vendor’s rep, “Gigi” (if that is her real name), later offered a $500 Costco gift card — BFD.

For the record, Costco proper does not respond to complaints about the auto buying program. The dealers pay the vendor, and the vendor pays Costco for the name. Costco really couldn’t care less that we got screwed beyond the loss of cash flow from cancelling our Executive membership … and they keep the pressure on to renew at that level, again, the only thing that they cared about in this situation.

Since the fiasco, I pulled back $5000 worth of the warranties on the Exploder (Ford knows some deaner’s F&I a**holes are real a**holes) and used my credit union’s buying program for the last car — a whole different experience.

Anytime I contact Costco’s buying program for a quote lately, they always come back with MSRP, maybe a few hundred less. Again, BFD.

  32. Greg Norton says:

Subaru honors the Costco buying price. I got a little more off even after other discounts on my Outback.

As they say, YMMV, especially in California. Always shop around, and realize that Costco’s auto buying program is a profit center for them since they only license the name.

Remember, you are *not* dealing with anyone who answers to Costco HQ in Issaquah. IIRC, the auto buying vendor is in San Diego.

For my last car, even the quotes directly from dealer’s “Internet” managers were better than Costco. Something’s been off with Costco since they put their chore boy in the WA Governor’s mansion eight years ago and rewrote the liquor laws on their home turf. It also coincides with weed legalization in WA State.

The party never stops in Issaquah.

  33. Greg Norton says:

<i.Why do you think that the 1% want to track us ?

I’ve long believed that a certain percentage of the population have a genetic drive to be in control of other human beings. You’ll see it in FL on HOA boards, especially since the association reforms which happened under Jeb! Bush were wiped out by the legislature about eight years ago.

  34. Nick Flandrey says:

they all want to charge you “dealer prep” too, and for any dealer add ons, even if you don’t want or need them. The honda dealership tried to charge us $600 for dealer applied window tint. The custom shop down the road advertises $79.95 for tint on any car. Floor mats are a money maker too, I just insisted they give us the factory ones and remove the charge for ‘dealer’ installed. I got the prep charges removed too, as I pointed out they wouldn’t (claimed couldn’t) sell the car without doing the work. That puts it squarely in their ‘Cost of goods sold’ column in my opinion. Anything spelled out as additional I asked to be removed. All this was after getting them to commit to a price online on a specific vehicle.

The .1 and .o1% want to maintain control over the masses so they can harvest the tax crop. And they track because they can. Our toll road uses bluetooth monitoring to track traffic speeds on the roads, and claims the data is anonymous and temporary. Sure it is.

You know those wireless tire pressure sensors which can’t be read more than six inches away? Yah, that turns out not to be the case. And some toll booths, semi-mobile roadside units, and for all I know every cop car now have scanners to get the ids from every new-ish rim that goes by. But I’m sure the database and communications are perfectly secure and the data will never be misused.

The only new car I have bought was a 1985 Chevy Cavalier Type 10. Two door, five speed, a/c and no radio. Call it a “stripper”. I have the paperback book that listed actual prices somewhere.

Three year note. I forget the down payment. About $8500 total off the lot. I had fun with that car. Added a radio. Trunk release. Delay wipers. Pin stripes. Pulled the bowtie off of the grill, peeled it apart, scraped out the gold paint and repainted it with the reddest nail polish Skaggs-Alphabeta sold. Sharp looking car…. “hay, is that the new Monte Carlo?” It was a ticket magnet. 38 in a 35? Pow!

One rainy morning at 45th and Lamar, 45th has flashing red, Lamar had flashing yellow. Jackass in in z whatever Datsun coasted through his flashing red as I came through the intersection. I hydroplane right into the sumbitch. That Datsun was leaking antifreeze, transmission fluid, maybe engine oil and his piss, too. It was towed away. The Cav, being unibody, was ruined. But I drove on to work. We both got tickets.

The insurance? Yeah. I got $1800 for an almost four year old car. A replacement car was $4500. So much for “full coverage”. And they wanted to know why I didn’t renew my policy….

I had a friend in San Antonio. I asked him to find a decent $1000 car.

He found a ’78 Plymouth Volare wagon. Gray, and the Earl Schribe paint job was almost gone. $1000.34 cents. From a car lot that had an old gas station for an office. BEST CAR EVER . It looked nice if it was raining. 🙂

Wagon turned the odo to zero on the way home as we passed New Braunfels. I really don’t know if it was the first time to zero. I added another 80k before it tossed a rod. I had fun with the wagon. Junk yarded for factory stuff like an am/fm radio and the brackets to mount speakers in the tailgate.

Learned how to rebuild a carburetor. How to adjust valve lash….. ah, I think I got it right when I could stand a few nickles on edge on the air cleaner of an idling engine. That was fun.

  39. Nick Flandrey says:

Well, I’m driving an 03 Ranger, that I leased out of Cali, then bought out at the end. Also an 08 expedition, police vehicle, bought sight unseen at an out of town auction for half blue book. Put a couple thou in it, a few hundred at a time, CLEANED it inside and out (still smells like a cop car, not bad, just kind of ‘flinty’.) LOVE my Expy. Junk yard for the missing interior trim and third row seat, elbow grease for the cleaning, ebay for leather seat covers.

Lease worked great for me. I didn’t finance the Cali sales tax, and I didn’t own the vehicle when we bought our house so it didn’t count as a debt. Leases don’t count as business personal property either in TX. I bought the vehicle at the end of the lease as an extremely low miles truck, that I knew every fault and it’s entire history. WAY better deal than I was gonna get on a used truck. All in, I paid a bit more than if I’d financed it, but I saved in the other places.

I will say that I got lucky with the Expy. If you decide to buy from a gov agency, small towns are better. Don’t buy from the big city departments. Be prepared to fix stuff.

“You know those wireless tire pressure sensors which can’t be read more than six inches away? Yah, that turns out not to be the case.”

There is a good explanation of how a guy built himself a rig to read them on his street -online somewhere…. match it with a camera and software like iSpy (which has a plate reader add in) and you can track your whole neighborhood….

From the article, most of the TPSM radios only broadcast when moving more than 30mph so they can’t read them in your driveway.
