Ok, working my way thru my list for today.
Just put a big slab of meat in the slow cooker. 3 pound hunk of chuck roast, yankee pot roast mix, some added veg, and 6 hours, will produce a tasty dinner with little effort.
I did sear the meat in my cast iron pan. The meat was bought on sale, bulk, and frozen.
The only side will be fresh bread, cooked by a robot, from bulk ingredients. I’ll set that up before I leave the house.
Received a check from my consulting/field service day. Still have invoices out.
Ebay sales are picking up, but it’s all smalls so far. I DEFINITELY see a correlation between making new listings and sales. No listing, no sale. Several listings, stuff that was very stale on my shelf finally sells.
Rain has paused, so I need to empty the pickup truck….

Thanks but I am fine. I am taking a day off from work today as I was really tired again yesterday. But, I did go for a mile walk night and towed my dog in her wagon the entire way. The wife stepped into a fire ant bed Monday night while we were talking to a neighbor (the one with the Robert Francis sign) and got bit several times so she is having trouble walking. She went with us and really regretted it.

Yesterday was three weeks since my heart ablation surgery. My doc told me Wednesday that I could start exercising again. I told him that I had been walking a mile each night since day 6 and he just shook his head. His post surgical instructions were five lbs max for five days and then don’t be stupid. I got an email from my Toyota dealer around the corner today. We drove a 2018 Highlander LE V6 about a month ago that they wanted $31,000 for with an MSRP of $34,360. Today’s price is $27,600. That is a good price for a good SUV.
I saw somebody saying recently that the economy is roaring on top but dead under the top layer. I suspect that is a good description.

That reminds me — I almost quit the other night when I spent three hours waiting for our database team to realize that they needed to turn on their server’s ftp daemon to receive plate images from my system. They finally did getting close to midnight. The good economy makes hiring decent talent tough, and I scared the h*ll out of the product manager around 11 PM when I pulled the CGI card out of my wallet, deliberatly wondering aloud if they would take me back.
I’m only there for the C++. My next career won’t be IT — too many stupid people filling quotas for this and that.

BTW, Sugar Land has license plate readers on all major through fares in and out of the city. All cars going in and out of Sugar Land are logged. And, we are getting ready to start logging all license plates in and out of our little 4,067 home subdivision here after our two home invasions in August. We are going to hook up our system to the city system.

We were hosed on my wife’s Exploder purchased via Costco. The dealer played games with the purchase price, hid the Costco paperwork, wore us down with a four hour purchase ordeal, and, when we were severely protein/caffeine deprived, let the F&I a**hole slip $6000 worth of extended warranties into the payments via a 2% APR loan from BBVA.
(BBVA is also on my sh*t list for life. They tend to “lose” the payments unless I hand the check/coupon to a teller at a branch.)
In retrospect, we probably should have walked out the moment the Costco paper disappeared, but my wife wanted the car.
Initially, Costco’s auto buying program’s contract vendor’s response was “You were adults who signed a contract”, but they backpedaled on that later when they realized how badly we were screwed and I called Costco proper to cancel our “Executive” memership. The vendor’s rep, “Gigi” (if that is her real name), later offered a $500 Costco gift card — BFD.
For the record, Costco proper does not respond to complaints about the auto buying program. The dealers pay the vendor, and the vendor pays Costco for the name. Costco really couldn’t care less that we got screwed beyond the loss of cash flow from cancelling our Executive membership … and they keep the pressure on to renew at that level, again, the only thing that they cared about in this situation.
Since the fiasco, I pulled back $5000 worth of the warranties on the Exploder (Ford knows some deaner’s F&I a**holes are real a**holes) and used my credit union’s buying program for the last car — a whole different experience.
Anytime I contact Costco’s buying program for a quote lately, they always come back with MSRP, maybe a few hundred less. Again, BFD.

For my last car, even the quotes directly from dealer’s “Internet” managers were better than Costco. Something’s been off with Costco since they put their chore boy in the WA Governor’s mansion eight years ago and rewrote the liquor laws on their home turf. It also coincides with weed legalization in WA State.

You know those wireless tire pressure sensors which can’t be read more than six inches away? Yah, that turns out not to be the case. And some toll booths, semi-mobile roadside units, and for all I know every cop car now have scanners to get the ids from every new-ish rim that goes by. But I’m sure the database and communications are perfectly secure and the data will never be misused.
The only new car I have bought was a 1985 Chevy Cavalier Type 10. Two door, five speed, a/c and no radio. Call it a “stripper”. I have the paperback book that listed actual prices somewhere.

One rainy morning at 45th and Lamar, 45th has flashing red, Lamar had flashing yellow. Jackass in in z whatever Datsun coasted through his flashing red as I came through the intersection. I hydroplane right into the sumbitch. That Datsun was leaking antifreeze, transmission fluid, maybe engine oil and his piss, too. It was towed away. The Cav, being unibody, was ruined. But I drove on to work. We both got tickets.
The insurance? Yeah. I got $1800 for an almost four year old car. A replacement car was $4500. So much for “full coverage”. And they wanted to know why I didn’t renew my policy….
I had a friend in San Antonio. I asked him to find a decent $1000 car.
He found a ’78 Plymouth Volare wagon. Gray, and the Earl Schribe paint job was almost gone. $1000.34 cents. From a car lot that had an old gas station for an office. BEST CAR EVER . It looked nice if it was raining. 🙂
Wagon turned the odo to zero on the way home as we passed New Braunfels. I really don’t know if it was the first time to zero. I added another 80k before it tossed a rod. I had fun with the wagon. Junk yarded for factory stuff like an am/fm radio and the brackets to mount speakers in the tailgate.
Learned how to rebuild a carburetor. How to adjust valve lash….. ah, I think I got it right when I could stand a few nickles on edge on the air cleaner of an idling engine. That was fun.
Well, I’m driving an 03 Ranger, that I leased out of Cali, then bought out at the end. Also an 08 expedition, police vehicle, bought sight unseen at an out of town auction for half blue book. Put a couple thou in it, a few hundred at a time, CLEANED it inside and out (still smells like a cop car, not bad, just kind of ‘flinty’.) LOVE my Expy. Junk yard for the missing interior trim and third row seat, elbow grease for the cleaning, ebay for leather seat covers.
Lease worked great for me. I didn’t finance the Cali sales tax, and I didn’t own the vehicle when we bought our house so it didn’t count as a debt. Leases don’t count as business personal property either in TX. I bought the vehicle at the end of the lease as an extremely low miles truck, that I knew every fault and it’s entire history. WAY better deal than I was gonna get on a used truck. All in, I paid a bit more than if I’d financed it, but I saved in the other places.
I will say that I got lucky with the Expy. If you decide to buy from a gov agency, small towns are better. Don’t buy from the big city departments. Be prepared to fix stuff.

There is a good explanation of how a guy built himself a rig to read them on his street -online somewhere…. match it with a camera and software like iSpy (which has a plate reader add in) and you can track your whole neighborhood….
From the article, most of the TPSM radios only broadcast when moving more than 30mph so they can’t read them in your driveway.
