75F and sure to get higher….
Survived a day of gainful employment, doing what I did 7 years ago. Still are poorly designed systems out there that need fixing, and I can still go do it if needed. That’s nice to know.
Ebay sales are $0 for the month. Admittedly I had the store shuttered for two weeks, and that always seems to have long lasting effects, but jeez. I think this ebay store thing might have been a mistake. I was moving a lot more before I converted to a store. Coincidence or some issue with their recommendation engine?
It’s both the end of the week and the end of the month, and the end of summer as well…
I feel a real need to get back to stacking preps. I haven’t bought any ammo in a while, nor have I gotten to the range. Wife went thru and removed the oldest of my expired food, and the rats have reduced my stack, so with ebola and a 45 day quarantine rising in possibility, I’m actually getting nervous.
Time to get the fall garden in too.
So much to do, and regular maintenance on 2 houses and 3 vehicles, and trying to get stuff cleaned up and organized, and NOTHING IS SELLING>>>>>
What have you guys been up to??

WRT the first month’s rent payment in cash:
Owner family next door to me moved to Texas about 6 years ago due to job transfer. Rented house via rental management agency. Subsequently, 3 sets of wonderful neighbors. You don’t get trash for $4,000 a month. Doubt if 1st month was in cash.
There’s something to be said for a cash requirement. If they can’t come up with the cash, they probably have deeper financial issues too.
I’ll be spending most of the day getting the house ready for move in tomorrow. Just have to hang the fire extinguisher, two smoke detectors, change the locks, and clear my stuff out of the garage…..
Oy vey.

Still in hospital. Had some complications. Doing well, operation successful. I woke up during the operation bleeding in my throat but they had intubated me so I did not choke.
Hopefully I will get out today, I am past ready to leave.
I guess that if the owner, or rep, insisted on cash that they go to the local bank. New renter withdraw $4,000 at window 56 and owner deposit $X,XXX at window 55.
That really, really, really sucks about OFD. And I wish I was surprised but am not.
Get better, Mr. Lynn. Out of the hospital ASAP!
Yes, second the motion! Get yourself healed and out of there!
n
Get out as fast as possible. Hospitals are not good places to stay for any length of time. Glad the procedure went well.
I also am not surprised. A major illness at the age that many of us are now is not to be taken lightly. What RBT thought was the flu (may have been), showed a really significant problem. OFD was having issues with balance and mobility wherein a doctors visit show significant problems.
If someone is having issues, no matter how trivial it may seem, a DR visit should be really considered.
@lynn, hoping for a swift and even better than new recovery for you. But, I would milk “recovery” for a while, just saying.
Strength, Hope, Peace, A Better Day
@lynn, hope you do get out of the hospital today.

Our landlord in Vantucky asked for a bank cashier’s check deposit for our rental and then full first/last month’s rent before we moved in a couple of weeks later.
When we moved, I left money in a local bank in WA in case the clinic backed up the Brinks truck and we needed a local account for another rental, but, after four years, I’m pretty sure it isn’t happening.
In Texas, the landlord insisted on doing everything via transfers at his credit union after a wire transfer for the deposit.
I am home. No stitches. No 40 lb sandbags either since he went in thru the veins instead of the arteries. The three incisions in the leg veins are 9 mm each. Plus a 9 mm incision between my heart chambers. I am hoping that grows back together quickly.
I am on five days restricted duty. I can drive sunday if I want to. This is so much better than cracking the chest.
My doc is really upset about the throat bleed. His team had to put in three sonogram wands down my throat since my heart is enlarged. Somebody really screwed up on his team. I am not sure if he had not intubated me at the beginning that I would still be here. The anesthesiologist got a facefull of blood when she leaned over to see why I was coughing. Then she suctioned all the blood out of my mouth and sinuses.
I almost had to take some whole blood to leave the hospital since I lost so blood during surgery and when one of the vein incisions started leaking last night. But they ran a hemocrit ??? test and determined that I had enough “stuff”.

I see that I am not the only landlord with trust issues. I am not willing to finance other people’s lifestyle at my expense.
Happy recovery @lynn.

Physician anesthesiologist or nurse anesthesiologist?
When they raised the standards for nurse anesthesiologists, Texas grandfathered all of the nurses licensed to do the work who only held bachelors. A few are still practicing at the teaching hospitals in Dallas and Houston. Private hospitals restrict them to gathering history and doing physicals.
(More trivia I wish I didn’t know thanks to my father-in-law’s transplant experience at UT Southwestern.)
Glad to hear you survived the experience.
@lynn,
Glad to hear that you are on the mend. We need some happy news here.
I see that I am not the only landlord with trust issues. I am not willing to finance other people’s lifestyle at my expense.
At least the landlord’s bank was a credit union and not BofA or Wells Fargo.
We’re credit union only since Vantucky. I still believe [large bank] was leaking our balance to my wife’s employer on a regular basis. The paychecks were *way* too precise.
Glad to hear that you are on the mend. We need some happy news here.
I second that emotion.
But will you get a refund or reduced rate? Nope. Probably charge you more. Anesthesiologist will probably pad your bill for having to suction the blood.
Nothing will happen to them and they may do the same thing to someone else.
Medical is one of the few area where they can make mistakes and charge you for more procedures. When my wife had kidney stones removed they had blasted some really strong and she was in really bad pain. Doctor ordered I/V Morphine. Hospital broke one of the vials. Yep, they charged me for the broken vial and administering the vial even the hospital had not administered the vial. Damned if the hospital was going to be out any money for their mistake or pay for the vial they broke.
That is a good thing. Less chance of infection and home is always the better place to recover.
Ebay sales are $0 for the month.
I haven’t seen any of my listings move all year. I’m glad I’m not depending on EBay for rent anymore.
The last thing I sold was via Amazon since I bought the SKU from them originally.

Did you *see* it break?
If you didn’t *see* it, chances are the vial simply disappeared.
Physician anesthesiologist or nurse anesthesiologist?
Nurse anesthesiologist, about 35 or so. Her boss, the physician anesthesiologist came by afterwards and talked to me also.
A nit to pick. Nurse anesthetist, physician anesthesiologist. (The physician is the one in charge and is supposed to be there at induction and wake up, plus checking in during the procedure.)
The physician anesthesiologist was about 70 and had his own ablation patient so I doubted he was getting around much. The nurse anes. was very comfortable with her team. She even shaved my back for me for free (they put about 30 sensors around my chest).
They had an 80 inch tv hanging from the ceiling almost on top of me that was showing all kinds of views of my heart. It was extreme tech in their four day old operating room.
Absolutely I did. I was in the room. I said to the nurse “Don’t charge me for that.” Fell on deaf ears. Hospital still charged for three vials even though only two were administered.

At 35, she’s too young to have been grandfathered in with just an undergrad nursing diploma.
Texas has the strangest nursing laws of any state where we’ve lived.
A nit to pick. Nurse anesthetist, physician anesthesiologist.
Yeah, sorry.
The nurse anesthetist who took home my father-in-law’s six figure life insurance payout is also consistently near the top of the list of non-physician salaries at UT Southwestern.
Wow that was a lot of work.
On the plus side, Costco has citrus trees in stock and they had limes. So I will be planting a lime to replace the one I lost to frost.
Prospective tenants are not moving in tomorrow after all, so I have another day or two. Bummer, but I guess better to have pushed and gotten it done.
sore and tired though.

Removed all my bandages and took a shower tonight. Not bad for major surgery on Thursday morning. Removing the 3 inch wide surgical tape was difficult and painful.
They also used a new technique for monitoring blood pressure during surgery instead of using a cuff. They put an iv into my left wrist artery. The nurse anes said that it is much faster and more accurate. The downside is another puncture and a really nasty looking blood marking across five inches of wrist skin.
Take it easy Mr.lynn..
It’s always a good feeling to get home after a stay in hospital..

In the groin area, right?
Last year’s Halloween challenge was my wife’s leftover Elvira outfit. The waxing was great fun … for her.
I can’t imagine the wax strips coming off of my inner thigh.
Already? A week early? Or are the claims of you bathing monthly merely scurrilous rumors?
The waxing was worth it, right? I’m sure you made a stunning Elvira.
Jenny, re your comment a couple days ago, I’m glad your daughter liked the story. I’ll noodle ideas around (with my daughter and one of my sons, who’s coming up for the weekend) but between the moves and the new job and my mom’s illness and hours a day on the road and blah blah blah I just don’t have the time or energy to write. Once things settle down I’ll see what I can do. The artist I hired is open to illustrating more books, and with me not being 800 miles away maybe it won’t take her five months to complete the set. -grimace-

The waxing was two strips on my chest. I can’t imagine three inch wide surgical tape in the groin area.
The end result wasn’t terrible. Cassandra Petersen at 70 still looks better.
I’ve left the house dressed as a six foot cheetah. Elvira wasn’t a big deal … until I got caught at HEB waiting out the rain during the obligatory Halloween grocery store run.
This is pretty standard on large cases, per the wife, and has been around for a long time. Not done on minor stuff. Called an “art line”.

Yup, it is definitely an art line.
And I am especially grateful that my doc is cautious. Mistakes can and will be made with humans in the process. I lost 2 or 4 pints of blood during the surgery due to the throat scrape which is still very swollen. The difference is that they could help me to recover easily and without permanent damage.

Where else ?

Several of those tape strips on the left side inner thigh were almost two ft long. There was a leakage incident on Thurday night where I dropped another pint on the floor and they pressure bandaged me but good. I have no hair left on my inner thighs now.

It grows back.
And, as you’ve said many times, it beats the alternative.
