Someone said that every accusation, every insult hurled by a progressive is actually projection. They are racist so they accuse others of racism. They are intolerant so they shout about intolerance. They are rapists and pedophiles, so they accuse…
So what does it mean when Hillarity accuses Trump of selling out the US to the Russians? When deep-state operatives accuse Trump of treason?
Others have noted the phenomenon. Pretty sure that it’s in Rory Miller’s book on violence that he points out that most violence comes with a warning. “If you don’t shut the F up, I’m gonna knock your @ss out!” One of the “tells” is when someone says something like “Don’t worry, I’m not gonna rape and murder you…” because that is EXACTLY what’s going through their mind at the time.
Apply what we know about the observed behaviour of progressives, and what we know about criminals, and draw your own conclusions about who is really acting in the best interest of the country- Trump, washed up criminal has beens, or criminal deep state operatives?
nick
@Lynn — already had a brown out at my house this morning. Just for a minute.
(Florida) Christmas in July!
FL knows how to deal with summer months’ demand, but 50s at Christmas on the peninsula is always trouble since virtually no one has gas heat and everyone’s oven is fired up.
So what does it mean when Hillarity accuses Trump of selling out the US to the Russians? When deep-state operatives accuse Trump of treason?
Trump ran on the position of being an adult about Russia. He was an adult with Putin yesterday. I don’t think any Trump voters’ minds were swayed by yesterday’s coverage.
In the second term, after the last Castro brother dies, I bet Trump lifts the Cuban embargo. Just wait until you see the coverage that generates, especially in S. Florida.
Rent-a-mobs at Mar A Largo daily.
Nice summary, Mr. Nick. The crazier the ProgLibTurdians act, the more people will see what you wrote. How much crazier does Mad Maxine Waters have to act before voters say enough? Or are sheeple that dumb.
He was an adult with Putin yesterday.
Not really. He tried to say that “US Intel says x, Putin said not x.” Instead, with all the rambling digressions he strongly implied that he believes Putin more than the US Intel agencies. Not a good thing for the President to say in public. He should have deflected the question by answering “We had a frank exchange of views. Mr. Putin gave me his side of the story. Next question.” Instead he had to make it about Hillary! and the server.
He can’t let that go – it is as if he still doubts he’s president, or that admitting there were (probably minimally effective) attempts by the Russian government to interfere in the elections would make his win less huuuuuge. He needs to man up and run the damn government.
I think President Trump is conflating the collusion accusation with Russia trying to influence the election. The first there seems to be no evidence of. The second, well I would be shocked if Russia was NOT trying to influence our politics. We have certainly been caught trying to influence foriegn elections enough times.
He should have swept clean (fired) all the obamma appointees and partisans when he took office, like every politician before him.
I think there were two reasons he didn’t, besides not being a political hack.
One, most businesses don’t immediately fire everyone at the business they’ve just bought. Proceeding as a businessman, Trump might have had trouble believing that these guys wouldn’t just do their jobs.
Two, the dems set it up so that any (completely normal and with every precedent) replacement of obamma appointees would look like sour grapes/political shenanigans. Look at the mess he’s putting up with re: the witchhunt, instead of just pointing out that they have no authority, legal or moral, and replacing them. ‘Cuz that’s what hitler would do, or something…
As Denninger points out, he DOESN’T trust the US ‘security’ apparatus. They are CLEARLY partisan, and have been corrupted by political use. “Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof” though, so he’s got to wait some of this out. The more that comes to light, the more willing the public will be to accept the accusations and firings when they do come, without thinking it’s a political purge by the new baby dictator. [not sure this will work, as the lib/prog side are willing to forgive their team for any malfeasance as long as the end is justified, or their motives were pure – ie. matched the progs desires]
Others have pointed out, including news magazines, that the US has a long history of meddling in other nations’ elections, and the Soviet Union/Russia in particular.
This is more prog projection, they’ve meddled in elections so they accuse others of the same.
n
Instead, with all the rambling digressions he strongly implied that he believes Putin more than the US Intel agencies.
The credibility of those agencies is highly suspect right now.
I’ve written in this space before about my experiences in the Tampa suburbs living around the perverted alcoholic REMFs, contractors and active duty military, who run the “wars” from the freak show commands at Mac Dill. I was threatened with death by some of those people over *sod*; I can’t imagine what they would do to protect their chosen means of earning a living.
Actually work instead of drinking, kinky sex games, and playing golf? The horror!
A house cleaning is definitely needed, but keeping Congress is most likely the priority right now.
Remember too, the whole russia thing was started to distract from the fact that the DNC rigged their own primary…

Not that Bernie ever really stood a chance. And, don’t forget, he got a new vacation house in exchange for keeping quiet.

Cankles destroying Libyan and having Gaddafi murdered come to mind.
Which sure helped with that whole ‘refugee’ thing, didn’t it?
NGOs sure are raking it in. How is it different from straight up human trafficking, if you profit billions providing transportation, housing, education, legal services, etc from those same “refugees”?
n
In other news, the guy they were looking for on the scanner last night was caught. Probably serial killer, at least 3 recent murders.
No wonder they wanted him.
And the area they were looking? Only a couple of miles from my rent house.
n
With this whole big picture Russia thing, the question to ask the wailing masses is “Why should we be at war with Russia?” and the follow up “who benefits from the US fighting with Russia?”
In other words, WHY shouldn’t we have a good relationship with the other remaining superpower? There are lots of our ‘friends’ who do worse things than Russia, and many of them have designs on their neighbors.
Why NOT shut down cold war 2?
n
Indeed. We keep building bases and selling weapons to folks on their border. They have less than half our population, 5% of our GDP and spend a comparative pittance on their military. True, their kleptocracy is run more straight forwardly than ours but can’t we all jest get along? 😉
And, elsewhere on the world stage, raising trade barriers and tariffs is like visibly taking a dump in your loan shark’s pool. Not gonna end well.
Yep, why poke the Bear in the eye when you can poke him covertly in the butt.
He should have swept clean (fired) all the obamma appointees and partisans when he took office, like every politician before him.
George W. Bush did not fire all of the dumbocrat hacks from Clinton and suffered greatly. Just ask Scooter Libby.

Yes. The FBI lost their credibility with me when they put Martha Stewart in jail.

I am not sure what to think about this. It is partially the conversion of coal based electric power to natural gas based. But is it also a measure of the economy dropping ?
Yes. The FBI lost their credibility with me when they put Martha Stewart in jail.
And that one makes more sense than “Russia Russia Russia”.
I’m old enough to remember that Martha’s backstory includes a stint as a trader on Wall Street, and she understood the consequences of insider trading.
Windows 10 … Lean?
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2018/04/microsoft-appears-to-be-making-yet-another-windows-variant-windows-10-lean/
Another John Hughes contribution to geek culture — the phrase “lean and mean” from “Mr. Mom” will live forever in Win32 developers’ source code, surrounding the #include for windows.h in modules which do not involve COM, etc.
In WA State, I realized my life had truly bottomed when I was inadvertently quoting Michael Keaton in “Mr. Mom” way too much. I know the lines way too well — blame HBO.

Deep in my distant memory, I remember that she was not Mirandaized and was convicted of lying to the FBI. The prosecutor stated that her SEC license absolved the FBI of having to Mirandize her. I disagree.
ADD: as usual, I may be wrong about the above. And she was definitely guilty of the insider trading. She should have called a reporter and then sold her shares the next day like everyone else did.
ADD2: of course, I am not an SEC trader and do not know of the requirements for trading to be declared insider.

My point was that it made more sense than “Russia Russia Russia”.
Larry Wilcox only got probation after pleading guilty to doing something similar. That was a big story when we moved west and we stopped in Rawlins, WY, his hometown, in October 2010.
” she understood the consequences of insider trading. ”
They didn’t get her on insider trading, they got her on lying to federal officers. Their argument was that she protested her innocence when she knew she was guilty, hence she was lying. Whole 5th amendment means nothing to the FBI.
Never talk to the Feds without YOUR lawyer present.
n
YUUUP, this is true. She was not an insider of the company whose stock she was trading. She was not on the board of directors, president, vice president, or……….
The way I remember is they busted her for a fib that was unrelated to the investigation.
Which reinforces my Dad’s Rule #1. Don’t talk to cops. Don’t let them in your house unless they have a warrant.
Today’s high was a sunny 106. Buffered down perhaps with the African dust? The sunlight seems “off” and the sky has a tan/gray haze.
The dogs go out, pee and whatever, and right back in. They look at me going outside like I’m a fool. The cats are under the sheds. The emu stay mostly in the shade but otherwise don’t seem to care. The chickens? Who knows.

Sad.

How many emu do you have now ? Are they farm animals or pets ?

Sounds like what Monday looked like around here. I thought it was a weird ozone problem at first.
Down to five emu. Mostly sorta pets that don’t like being petted. They haven’t laid much for the last couple of years. I’ve had this group since ’93, ’94. I might put a battery in the chip reader and then see if the old 486/66 will boot to know exactly which birds are left. But, nah. I know Big Rooster is there. And Queen Emma. The other three, eh, no one cares except me.
The current plan is to get the mobile chicken coop into the chicken pen. Hopefully they will use their coop and venture out for water and general wandering around in that pen. But they are four years old, so, I don’t know. Five chickens and maybe 3 eggs a day. Five eggs in one day about once every two weeks. They do slow down when it gets hot.
Once that is sorted, and I’m down to a couple of bags of feed, I plan to let the emu out. Again. I tried a few years ago and it seemed to be ok for a few weeks. Kinda cool to have 20 emu wandering around the house. The dogs don’t care, they go in the pen when I feed the emu. I came home from work one day and they were gone. Six wandered back, one has died since. I have better fencing now. And the birds are older. So, we will see.
I want to (a) get out from under the feed bill and (b) daily feedings and (c) be able to go somewhere. You can get folks to drop by for the wi-fi and Roku stuff and feed the dogs and cats, not so much for watering the chickens or toting feed to the emu pen.
That was one of the “gotchas” that a famous youtube homesteader complained about, no vacation when you’ve got all the animals.
In other news, the Constables executed a search warrant on the ‘known drug house’ in my neighborhood. Seized a variety of drugs, and made arrests. Good job guys!

I wondered about that service.
My daily driver phone has a $30/mo T-Mobile plan, mostly about the “unlimited” data and text with only 100 minutes of voice. If I’m not interviewing, 10 minutes of voice is a big usage month for me since we have a landline at home.

Sad.
So is Rawlins, WY.
Ba da dum. Thank you, I’ll be here all week. Try the veal.
Even sadder — the hometown paper touched on Wilcox being a decorated Marine who was present at the Tet Offensive. USA Today isn’t gonna mention that part of his story.
As much as I desperately want that time and money back, I can’t say that the Vantucky experience was a total waste. OTOH, I had a recruiter tell me that explaining prison would probably be easier.

Yup, it is hard enough with just a cat and a deaf geriatric dog.

Freedompop: Hmmm. I picked a $35/mo. plan when I signed up and have had difficulty only when I did not inform them my plastic money number had changed. Saved more than $100 per month over the Verizon liars. (Quoted $60 / month but charged over $150) Coverage is from the Sprint network and can be spotty in remote areas. Their “Help” desk is opaque and pretty much useless.

When renewing my StraightTalk SIM before heading to FL earlier this month, I noticed that they had $35/mo plan for “unlimited” data, talk, and text.
AT&T provides the coverage which is why I activate the SIM for traveling.
However, I don’t know if I would trust StraightTalk customer service with porting a number … or anything, really.
I set up the account with their “introductory offer” intending to use it on a tablet. Turns out the tablet is locked to ATT and there is an active contract, so they won’t unlock it. Some sap is paying for my tablet, which neither of us can use. No way to contact said sap either. One of the dangers of buying from the lost and found box.
Anyway, I dropped the plan back to free/basic when I realized the tablet was fubar’d. I still got billed for $7.99 though. Thought that was possibly a partial month, checked that I was on free/basic, and got billed AGAIN. And AGAIN. This time I figured out that part of the intro offer was some additional service at, you guessed it, $7.99/ mo. Canceling the paid plan, and dropping the service level to free/basic doesn’t kill that addon. So now I’ve figured out how to kill the addon too.
Still, I feel like their opaque downgrade, and confusing service plan details is very scammy and dishonest.
On the plus side, I got the service to work on verizon MiFi personal hotspot with no problem. If I need a personal hotspot, that isn’t my att phone…

Did I mention that it was 113F (measured) in my customer’s attic today? Or that I know that because I screwed up and forgot to pull two cables when it would have been easy? Now I have to undo work to pull the missing cables. HATE undoing work.
2 hours in the sun per day. This job is taking a bunch of days, just to get one day’s worth of work done.

You know how all those bullies used to drop ice cubes down your back when you were in school? Wouldn’t it be nice if those bullies were around today? Wouldn’t it be nice if you hadn’t murdered them in their sleep?
Oh, wait. Sorry. Just projecting a bit for a minute there.
The cool vest, neck cloth, and costco big cool hat make it possible. Not fun, or long exposure, but possible.
I’ve been trying to keep the outdoor work in parts of the day and areas of the site with shade on my work area. When I do have to stick my fat head into the sunlight, I feel the heat pretty quickly. When it’s 100 at 10 am, it doesn’t really matter if you work at 10 or at 2 and 2 is often better because of where the sun is, and subsequently where the shade is….
n
So cops on the scanner are doing something with cell phones. They seem to be scanning for the presence of different carriers’ signals. The lead guy is asking all of his guys to turn off their devices by carrier. He just said he “wanted to do ATT again, so turn off your ATT devices….”
Hmm….

The wife came back this afternoon. We are all happy now, including the dog. Especially the daughter who says that I suck as a caretaker (she said it very nicely though).
The wife said her sisters husband is doing much better. He can now name his two sons (he could not do that a week ago). Her sister got a hold of the surgeons report and her diagnosis was “incomplete quadriplegia”. Not good at all but the surgeon still thinks that he will get back 98% of functionality. After six months to a year of rehab. He is three weeks post surgery now of fusing several of neck vertebra.
And UPS rescinded their firing of my BIL. The union filed a grievance which apparently means the facility manager must respond to it. The manager got my SIL to refile all his paperwork (again) and they are going to grant his long term disability (supposedly). Why is it so hard !
Their church in Plano, TX has been a blessing to them. My SIL’s 12 year old minivan started having problems and one of the men from the church came and took it to a mechanic. He left her a rental car until her minivan is fixed. Wow.
Glad to hear he is doing better and that his outlook is good.
This is why we do our most basic preps, because the SHTF is most likely to be very personal. Money in the bank, food in the pantry, etc.

Hot outside?
Hot?, naw, just a little warm…..

As much I don’t side with some of the things the Mormon church does, without that church support to my mother when my parents got divorced I don’t think my mother would have made it through the ordeal.
I was young, about 11 years old. Two brothers, one younger, one older. Mother had to leave the house and move from Wrightwood CA to Victorville. My mother got a rental house that had problems. Members of her church showed up and fixed all the problems. The church members also moved all of us to our new location.
There were also times that I know food was scarce or non-existent. The church, or members of the church, made certain that we had food and also provided clothes. Even fixed her vehicle a couple of times. And provided another move to a different house in Victorville. And somehow my mother had enough money to get a mortgage and purchase rather than rent. I suspect the house had belonged to a church member and was sold at a substantial reduction in price.
I don’t agree with much of the Mormon church’s ideology and their rules. However the support provided to their members is a model for what a lot of churches should be accomplishing. The church’s stand on prepping and storing adequate food supplies should also be applauded.
My son had foam insulation installed in his new house. The two guys doing the work wore a vest and a breathing mask that was fed by a small A/C unit providing cool fresh air. Long, as really long, hoses attached their vests and masks to the unit. Probably pricey but when installing insulation in attics is your occupation worth every dollar.
“when installing insulation in attics is your occupation worth every dollar. ”
YES!
There are a couple of forced air options. Lots of woodworkers are opting for a full face shield with a blower than mounts on your belt. It provides cooling as well as dust protection.
There are jackets with blowers too, but I haven’t tried that. Too pricey.
Usually, I can make choices to mitigate the issues, but sometimes you don’t get to choose.

In my neighborhood, the houses near the Mormon temple seem to be the most desirable among the hipsters moving up from Austin proper.
Most of the buyers don’t strike me as being members of the church. Unless things have changed, I can’t imagine LDS doctrine abiding “Stand With Wendy” bumper stickers like I’ve seen on one car pulling into a nearby driveway.
(For those of you not from Texas, the Governor is in a wheelchair. His opponent in the 2014 race was Wendy Davis. You can figure out the rest.)
Most of the buyers don’t strike me as being members of the church. Unless things have changed, I can’t imagine LDS doctrine abiding “Stand With Wendy” bumper stickers like I’ve seen on one car pulling into a nearby driveway.
Since Wendy was all about abortion rights in Texas, I cannot either. I would think that any LDS elder would have a talk with that person and tell them to remove the bumper sticker or leave the congregation. Since LDS people are assigned to congregations, that would be a bad thing,
People do like to live in religious neighborhoods. They are generally quieter and safer. Never discount the safety thing.
@lynn …. there is no ‘official political stance’ that is required of LDS members. We are encouraged to look at issues and make our own decisions.
I would find it hard to believe that an “LDS elder” or leader would require a member to ‘remove a bumper sticker or leave the congregation’.
It is not up to members (or an “LDS elder”) to judge people based on political beliefs or stances, unless the member is actively proselyting against Church teachings to the point of undue influence on members. (See https://www.mormonnewsroom.org/official-statement/political-neutrality for the official stance of the Church regarding political neutrality.)
I would find it hard to believe that an “LDS elder” or leader would require a member to ‘remove a bumper sticker or leave the congregation’.
I am not sure about the reliability of this website but they state “Human life is a sacred gift from God. Elective abortion for personal or social convenience is contrary to the will and the commandments of God. Church members who submit to, perform, encourage, pay for, or arrange for such abortions may lose their membership in the Church.”
https://www.lds.org/topics/abortion?lang=eng
Wendy Davis’s campaign for governor was focused on making abortions easy and common in Texas. She had other standard dumbocrat items but abortion was her main message.
@lynn …. well, the http://www.lds.org site is the official web site of the LDS (Mormon) Church. So I would consider them reliable.
The key there is ‘may’. There is no requirement that a person would be excommunicated based on ‘supporting’ abortion. There would be some counseling involved, if necessary, by the local Bishop (local leader of the local congregation) or the Stake President (leader of a regional group of local congregation/wards).
But it is not a requirement. I (personal opinion) think that if a person was actively encouraging abortion, to the point of, say, running an abortion counseling unit, or giving a talk in a church meeting expousing abortion, then there would be some consequences. But I don’t think (again, IMHO) that there would be consequences in supporting a candidate that supported abortion. (Except, maybe an ‘eternal’ consequence.)
IMHO.
But all of that is a choice of the individual.
