Another hot and humid day, 78F and 85%RH to start the morning….
My day will be full of swim team, Rec Association, and then swim meet this evening.
I got my big 42″ fan repaired yesterday, so that will make things a bit more tolerable in the still humid air tonight. Fan was $30, motor was $90 and the rest of the bits and pieces I had laying around. I still need to splash some paint on it, and add one more bit of reinforcement but it’s working now. I wish the $35 motor had been packed better, or that I had one on the shelf, but you don’t always get lucky. Cost new, over $300.
I’ll take the portacool down there too.

63º and cloudy, with highs in the mid-70s and lows in the lower 60s for the next 5 days. I love this time of year.
Kinder & Mama are going to the amusement park tomorrow. I’ll be joining them when I get off work. We have one of the best in the country. Free to enter, and ride-passes are typically around $20 after discounts. (Always look for the discount!). I won’t pay anything at all because I’m passing on the rides this time. (Two more times we’re going this year, and I’ll ride both those times.)
I am very much looking forward to this summer. All 3 are old enough to help Daddy at the races, which gets me time with them, and gives them a little spending money. That’s always a winning situation for me.

The county on the WA side of the river doesn’t have the money to renovate their jail, but WA State law only allows sentenced prisoners to be housed outside the state. Hilarity ensues.

I effing hate Microsoft & the .Net framework. Add in the folks that build extensions on the Orifice suite and I have headaches for days.
The next time anyone recommends buying something “built on Office”, I’m going to run away. Very far away.

I’ve noticed most of the gyros places in my city have gone from being owned by Greek Americans to being owned by Muslim Americans. As the former close the latter open. They still call it gyros because that’s the name that sells, but to them it’s really doner kebab. They all have signs hanging up that the gyros meat is halal.

Good times, good times ! There is no such thing as quality time with your kids, it is all about quantity time. And, they are watching you to see how you handle things. Much better than them watching the kid down the block.

This is a very bad thing. Then again, a lot can happen in 8 years.
When we flew into Rhein-Main AB we usually stayed in downtown Frankfurt and we’d go drinking and then hit up the closest Turk with a doner kebab cart (they knew to set up near the bars). The huge amounts of beer combined with street vendor spiced meats made for some horrid stomach issues the next day. Of course, by the next night your stomach had recovered and you’d do it all again.

Isn’t Medicare and Social Security always about to run out of money? They’re the entitlements that cried wolf (or bust). I shouldn’t say entitlements. RBT would correct me and say they’re not entitlements they’re prepaid benefits. Unfortunately, Americans have gotten so use to hearing the “when you retire there won’t be anything left” warning that they shrug it off.
There is no Medicare or Social Security Trust Fund, only an old cigar box full of IOUs because all Medicare and SS actual money goes into the General Fund to hide the true size of the National Debt.
The General Fund (really just a printing press) then goes to pay for the “entitlements”, which means money people have been led to believe they are owed. This not only includes the people parasites but also the Military Industrial Complex and all the Big Whatevers (Farm, Industry, Chemical, Medical, etc.).
There is no fix for our monetary predicament. Some day the truth will reveal itself and the inflation that will occur will make Venezuela’s and the Third Reich’s inflation look like a speck on a flea’s back.
The only thing stupider than our monetary policy is the people investing in crypto-currencies. How can a list of “records” created by computers churning code, sucking electricity in excess of the value created, have any tangible value? Think about it.

About 1/3 of the states have ancient laws making adult children responsible for their parents’ well being. I anticipate that these statutes will be dusted off and tested in the legal system over the next decade.
Beyond that, I expect most states will adopt a model similar to Florida where catastrophic indigent elder care through the state’s Medicaid program has become a kind of reverse mortgage on the patients’ assets, with thorough audits by appointed trustees preventing preemptive liquidation.

I’ve seen this attitude in several businesses and countries about to walk into bankruptcy. The individuals running the entity are spending money right, left, and sideways. When, all of a sudden, the checks start bouncing. Enron, Venezuela, Soviet Union, etc, etc, etc, all had this behavior until they hit the wall.
I still think that the USA is 10 to 15 years away from bankruptcy. Unless, there is an event.

Took longer to adjust this time, maybe because of age, maybe because of not being able to sleep from the humidity and heat.
Had big thunderstorm in Frankfurt yesterday. Caused major problems in the train station due to flooding. Many streets were also flooded. Kronberg, 15 kilometers away, just got sprinkles.
