60F with 90%RH and clear in Houston. NOAA weather map had the whole US basically clear for the next day. Been windy here though, which usually means weather coming in. I guess we’ll see.
One child at Girl Scout camp this weekend, the other with 3 outdoor events scheduled, so I certainly am hoping for clear…
Have to build a first aid/medicine bag for my wife to take to camp. Interesting mix. No trauma, but added “comfort” meds. I can’t quite just grab an existing bag.
I’m hoping to get the eye tracker installed on OFDs lappy today. I went thru another round of updates, 6 reboots, including another firmware/bios update. If win7 doesn’t work, and I have to go thru this all again, I’ll be using the offline update tool for sure. What a PITA.

OH, and What did you do to prep this week??
@Ray:
WRT Grandson, WHEW!
WRT to my grandchildren, I am college fund solution, happily so. GS will start in Sept. and has a number of which he has been accepted with a few more due today.
“The one I found was 4WD (sorry Slim, AWD). ” Yuuup, part of my career activity writing MIL-Std-409 specs where 100% precision was practiced.
WRT to vehicle audio, I have 10 CDs loaded that I don’t use. Now Sirius XM radio tuned to Outlaw Country and local traffic & weather channels.
29º and cloudy by the bay right now. Looking forward to a couple of clear days, then warming and rain. I hate cold, wet rain. 32º to 50º and rain is about the only thing I really HATE to be out in.
The only prepping this week was refining my bread recipes. I finally have a loaf I can make sandwiches from. Believe me, that’s a challenge. Some household maintenance that needs to be done regardless got done. Still working on the upstairs remodel for the kinder. Stored some more rice & beans in LTS. That’s not really a big deal for us because we both believe in buying in bulk when the prices are low. And we found a deal.
Preps this week:
Went through the pantry and storage to check for product rotation and things out of place. I swear there are gremlins that come in at night and mix up my neatly organized shelves. Found a couple of minimal problems that were easy to solve and prevent a bigger future problem. Fortunately my cats are keeping the rodents and bugs away (yes cats like to eat bugs).
Basic check of fluid levels and tire pressure on all vehicles and a good underbody wash to get rid of the last of the road chemicals.
Knock on wood – justtoast appears to have given up.
Spoke too soon, went back to edit my post and justtoast would not let me edit then it took 3 refreshes to get this to post.
I got my HF antenna up and the new feed line connected. Sold a ton of cr@p at the hamfest.
Got some work in the garden beds done, everything is still alive and growing.
Apple trees are budding. Peach tree is in leaves. Last year’s blueberry bushes are all leafed and flowered. Grape vines are both in leaves.
Haven’t been garage sale-ing or to to many estate sales in the last few weeks. Did pick up some web gear and holsters. I’ll keep some and sell the rest.
Bought some packaged food, costco has MH in buckets again, although I don’t think it’s as nice a variety as the boxes they used to get. I throw a bucket in the cart when I’ve got room in the budget. Same with bulk rice or flour or sugar or salt. Pick up a bag when the rest of the shopping trip isn’t a “big” trip. Pick up a bucket and lid at Lowes while buying other stuff.
Did change out the locking entry doorknob set for the back door. Replaced a worn out homeowner grade knob with a schlage commercial lever set. Big difference in feel. MUCH better quality.

Be sure to run SlimDrivers at some point, repeating the scan/install cycles until the report is clean. IIRC, the mouse pad isn’t 100% without the right driver, and the Device Manager will show the peripheral as an unknown *multimedia* device.
Lenovo is not very helpful about installing the right drivers. I never even ran their utilities, opting for a clean Windows 10 install from disc.
Also, when I reinstall Windows on laptops where the drivers are suspect, I keep a $10 USB mouse handy. It saves a lot of grief.
lol! President tRump signs the atrocious funding bill. The largest military budget in history. ATTACK THE NORKS!
But only the second largest ever. Give him time.
For anyone that thinks they have DNS issues with getting to this site: you can add this site’s IP address to your HOSTS file (on Windows). Lots of instructions on the googles about how to do that.
I wrote a short piece on DNS troubleshooting here: http://securitydawg.com/dns-resolution-problems/ . Not fancy, but it’s what I learned about troubleshooting DNS problems.
I was having problems accessing the site, I just went to Google and searched for TTGNET and here I am. Thanks Rick and Nick.
I used to know a lot more about than this stuff than I do now.

The financial apocalypse of the USA is moving closer and closer. It was 5 to 15 years out. It may be 5 to 10 years out now.
Fortunately my cats are keeping the rodents and bugs away (yes cats like to eat bugs).
Cats are weird. I have seen our 12+ lb Siamese male jump four ft in the air going after a flying bug. And he missed.

Am I the only one occasionally getting the following:

Why are we paying for border walls in Tunisia and Jordan ?
Obviously we need this for the USA. And if we needed to know, they would tell us.

Why I Can’t Defend Minneapolis Police Officer Mohamed Noor
“Most police officers have had the experience of someone approaching them unexpectedly while sitting in their cars. Some have even, as Officer Harrity did, drawn their guns at such a surprise. But no police officer would say it is “reasonable” within the meaning of Graham v. Connor to shoot someone whose only offense was to startle him. It is notable that Harrity, who was closer to Damond and in a better position to judge the potential danger, did not fire.”
The latest dispatch from the Children’s Crusade:
David Hogg: “Our Parents Don’t Know How To Use A F*cking Democracy, So We Have To”
I was going to compare young Master David to Horst Wessel, but he has yet to make the same sacrifice for his cause.
ADDED: I doubt that he is thinking along those lines, but who knows what his handlers have planned for him?
We have a REPUBLIC you little putz! We have protections from the mob, from the tyranny of the masses. People fought and died for those ideas you little pustule.

Regarding the ‘500’ error: I saw that earlier (around 4pm PDT). Looked to be a hosting error (Dreamhost); perhaps some maintenance on the shared server.
Could also be another site on that shared server. But it has cleared up. Site loaded just fine for me just now.
Not related to earlier nameserver issues, BTW.

Ah, if only OFD were here! He would undoubtedly express much the same sentiment, albeit even more eloquently and at greater length! 😀
I miss OFD. Hopefully he will be back soon.

Trump did get more money for the military which he desperately wanted. And Congress got a raise that they desperately wanted.

Trump plays the long game. This is only a six month budget. It will come due again on September 24, just six weeks before the fall elections. One wonders how hot this summer will get ?
Florida has a long, rich tradition of selling swampland to newcomers, but I tip my hat to the Houston area developers who sold homes inside a known reservoir boundary.

Technically, the houses were outside the reservoir boundary.
All the developments from a certain time are essentially bowls. During rain they fill with water. As long as the pumps keep up you’re fine. No power, no pumps, you are swimming.

Appearances are deceiving because most people assume land that far inland is high and not prone to flooding.

added– it’s what a well funded subversive movement looks like too:
“Patriots owner Bob Kraft, lent their support in other ways. Kraft gave the teenagers from Parkland his football team’s private plane to shuttle them to DC on Friday.”
“Delta also donated two of its aircraft to fly protesters to the city from Florida.”
“The Clooneys and Oprah each donated half a million dollars to the event, as did Spielberg and several other celebrities.”
I see 500,000 more welfare queens and kings. Why not just drop out of school? Go protest in DC that you have to go to school till 18 YOA. Out future is right there. Lead, cajoled and financed by rich prog fukstiks.

My plumber installed the new ADA toilet for me Wednesday. He lives around the corner from me, in the same levee. But, his house is six ft higher than mine.
Anyway, his theory is that our levee is high enough and that our pumps worked well enough to keep the flooding from getting catastrophic during Harvey. His concern is that our levee profile is 3:1 (3 ft width for each ft in elevation) which he believes is not tough to withstand the Brazos River running at 8 mph. During Harvey, we had 6 ft of water on our 12 ft levee. He thinks that if the river had gotten much higher on the levee that, the levee would have collapsed into our 4,000 home subdivision. He thinks that our levee profile needs to be 5:1 or 6:1.
I need to move my family to higher ground. This is not good. And there will be a Harvey II some day. It may be in June of this year or in December of 2525.

Yes, the houses are in the overflow basin.
