09:30 – It was 37F (3C) when when I took Colin out around 0700 this morning, with a stiff breeze. Barbara is off to volunteer at the bookstore from mid-morning to mid-afternoon.
I spent some time yesterday making up solutions for science kits, including 4 liters each of hydrochloric acid and Lugol’s iodine and lesser amounts of a dozen or more others. I have more solutions to make up today, and then we’ll spend tomorrow filling bottles.
As expected, TrumpCare as proposed by the House and endorsed by Trump is just ObamaCare under a different name. This will not end well.
Barbara and I have been re-watching Everwood, which along with Heartland and Jericho is the only series I’ve rated five stars on Netflix. We just finished watching the season three story arc with Anne Heche. I’d forgotten what an excellent actress she is. Barbara agrees. I’m going to get the two seasons of Men in Trees, in which she had the leading role, and which sounds a lot like Northern Exposure. I may also get Aftermath, a 13-episode Canadian series that ran late last year.

“This will not end well.”
That may be the understatement of the decade. Those people were elected to repeal, not replace. What these idiots are doing may annoy normals enough to actually do something about it. More than vote, that is. Where is the tipping point?
A lot of people are finally starting to realize that there’s no real difference between the Democrats and Republicans. The former are essentially 100% nasty progressives. The latter are maybe 5% real conservatives and libertarians but 95% nasty progressives. It’s long past time to start hanging politicians and bureaucrats from lampposts. Unfortunately, after that the deluge.
68F50%RH and sunny here. NOAA says some small amount of rain here, but the NW and northern plains are gonna get hammered with snow!
Just woke up from my syrup induced nap.
Had my Tamiflu. Freaking packaging on that needs a squad armed with wire cutters to get thru. No idea why.
Don’t need to do any stomach crunches with this coughing. Holy cow that hurts.
Need to hydrate, and get back in bed.

Feel better, Mr. nick; another theory could be that it’s your mind/body telling you to rest up. It often sounds like you’re running on sixteen cylinders.
WRT RINOcare, or ObolaCARE LITE; same old, same old. They’ve learned nothing from the last couple of years. Repackage the same bag of chit and try to sell it again to the rubes and bumpkins out here. While they’re exempt, of course.
Presidents and Cabinets come and go, but Leviathan endureth forever.
And even after a major SHTF collapse, it’ll still be with us, in vast underground bunkers and virtual cities, apparently. Good luck to them when they pop back out.
46 and headed to 50 now, followed by a drop into the 30s and then another weekend in the teens, when Mrs. OFD will be heading to Nawlinz. Just in time, again. She’ll be gone until the end of the month; after Nawlinz it’s Floriduh and Kalifornia while I chip ice off the cars, lol.
tRumpCare sucketh, for sure.
Off to CA, FL today, back to Vegas Sunday. Good times helping MrsAtoz with Libturdian Progs at various schools. I’ll keep my piehole shut as usual.
My daughter and I appear to have a milder version of what Nick has. She is home from school asleep on the couch, and I am sitting playing with the computer because I don’t have the energy for much else.
Eh, where’s the fun in that? See if you can trigger any snowflakes into screaming, fainting, convulsions, or outright death. I challenge you to meet the SteveF standard!
I’m feeling fine today, just hungry from not eating yesterday. I guess it was food poisoning, or else a very quick-running flu. (Which is possible. My immune system is normally very robust.)
Many of my coworkers, on the other hand … I just spent an hour on a call with one and he was sniffling and sneezing well-nigh continually. Several other coworkers who don’t normally work from home are today, and some aren’t working at all.
There have been discussions regarding dealing with the one guy who keeps coming in despite being sick. Uncharacteristically, my idea of dunking him in bleach until he’s germ-free was among the milder suggestions.
Been having the weirdest dreams….
and realized I had a gap in my understanding of how radio waves work… still working with that idea as I doze around.
nice out here, I’ve got a ton of stuff to do outdoors, and I’m lying in a pool of sweat in bed, with opium dreams…
life is f=in weird
n
“and realized I had a gap in my understanding of how radio waves work…”
Confucious say: “What go up….must come down.”
I didn’t get a flu shot this year for some reason. I haven’t missed one since I was commissioned in the Army. The only time I’ve had the flu was in High School. I haven’t been flu-like sick in decades. I wonder if living in the desert helps.
“Microsoft Commits to Bringing ARM to the Data Centers”

The middle of the end for Intel as their server cpu business goes in the ditch.
@OFD, here you go ! “Wanted: South Florida python hunters for hire”

The copperhead that I killed Monday night was not quite this big. “snicker”
The middle of the end for Intel as their server cpu business goes in the ditch.
At this point, Intel could produce their own ARM CPUs and utilize the lead in fab technology to their advantage. Itanium was the most important thing in the world to the company … until they switched to making what are essentially 64 bit Athlon CPUs with better performance.
Sadly, PA-RISC went away with Itanium.
Microsoft had the chance to knock off Intel with Windows 8 on cheap ARM laptops, but they chose to give us WinRT instead.
For International Women’s Day today, I’m XXXX my wife twice. Fill in the XXXX as you see fit.
A self-proclaimed “Huzzah!” for me.
One of the climate control knobs broke off in my Highander – the shaft broke. Only option is to replace the unit.
Local Toyota dealer said $1100. Local independent shop said $600. E-bay said $110 (from a dismantler).
Survey says: “E-Bay”. Arrived today. Used my Harbor Freight plastic panel tools to pry it out (it snaps in/out of the center dash area). Popped the broken one out. Put the replacement in. Took all of 20 minutes.
And it works just fine. Doesn’t have the fake wood grain facing, but the radio above doesn’t either; just the heat seater knobs below (and the center console area) have the wood grain facing. So looks OK to me. (I suppose I could take the facing off of the old unit, but not a high priority.)
Rick for the win! And a savings of $500+. Huzzah !!
Good going Rick! See? Lots of self satisfaction, save money, learn something! All wins…
n
Huzzah, Mr. Rick! And hats off! Outstanding!
44 with one short rain shower earlier; temps dropping and we may see a few snow showers this week.
Wife enroute home from lovely Manchester, NH; I was doing laundry and not much else today, feeling all bummed out that the women disappeared and are mad about something or other again. I had a good cry and am OK now.
That happened on my previous van*. Metal shaft coming out of the unit, metal shaft going to the knob that you grab, plastic “linkage” between. Great design, retards.
* They’re not “cool” or especially mileage-friendly, but I’ve driven minivans for twenty years. They’re mighty practical when you’re shuttling three kids, a wife, and either the in-laws or the kids’ friends. Now that two-thirds of the kids have moved out and half of the in-laws have died (and the other isn’t doing that great, honestly), I might get a regular car when this van dies.
“XXXX” = “yelling ‘Woman, make me a sammich!’ at”?

Yeah, gotta use SUDO.
Or screw security and run as root all the time.
CIA clowns already have us all made on their servers anyway.
Now let’s see what National Administrator tRump will do about it. If anything.
If he’s with us, he’ll kick ass and take names and blow those losers outta the wotta.
If not, we’re gonna be in virtual lockdown for a long time.
It’s been ~ 30 years since I had a case of the flu. I attribute it, in part, to my spending plenty of time in the winter in the fresh air & sunshine; not as practical an idea for OFD. And FWIW, I’m a 52 year old male who happily drives a mini-van. They’re just so darned practical for so many uses.
Another, seldom-mentioned, benefit of minivans is that they limit aggressive driving. Left to my own druthers I drive fast and take corners tight and such. In a minivan, not so much. Wallow into the next lane, pudge around the corner, take off from the light almost as fast as an old donkey pulling a wagon.
Yeah, gotta use SUDO.
Or screw security and run as root all the time.
Isn’t that called Windows?
Forget the NSA/CIA/FBI. I don’t trust myself enough to run as root all of the time.
Guess I’m gonna have to treat my own tv like the displays in the SCIF. Cut off the mic, cut off the ir, pull the bluetooth module, no net connection…
n
“… not as practical an idea for OFD.”
BLASPHEMY!
I get out at least as much during the winta up here as the summah. Shoveling snow, chipping ice off the cars, x-c skiing, snowshoeing, and I’d try ice-fishing but it is just so freaking bleak out there, with the wind howling and my vividly remembered incident of falling through the ice at Walden Pond when I was fourteen. That really sucked!
“… benefit of minivans is that they limit aggressive driving.”
I want an older diesel pickup truck, with 4WD and a manual tranny.
“I don’t trust myself enough to run as root all of the time.”
I hear you. Funny and not-so-funny chit can happen.
“Cut off the mic, cut off the ir, pull the bluetooth module, no net connection…”
We’d have to completely sever all net connections, and meanwhile a drone can still be hovering outside the goddam window or overhead anyway. IIRC, it was a certain brand or brands of tee-vee that were loaded up with all this vulnerability. Plus the voices that now come out of our electronic gizmos and smartypants phones. Tracked even when they’re off; you gotta pull the batteries, and/or use burner phones, picking them up in disguise and paying cash, etc., etc., etc.
After a while you spend so much time and effort doing this stuff as to actually attract attention. I just try to make it harder for the fuckers and stave off the most blatant intrusions.
My walmart.com order of auguson farms arrived today. That was pretty quick for free shipping. I got 6 cans so filled a case. No dents.
Had this suggested on Amazon, so I bought some.
Hoosier Hill Farm Heavy Cream Powder Jar, 1 Pound
Hoosier Hill Farm Real Butter powder, 1 lb
Lots of reviews of people using the heavy cream in their coffee, which is what I want it for. I’ll have to crack open the jar and give it a try.
3 plastic jars, and the same size box as 6 auguson farms cans, not a single scrap of paper or padding. walmart isn’t the only one cheaping out on shipping costs.
n
To be clear, you mean a transmission, like in a truck, right? These days it pays to make sure.
Yes, Mr. SteveF; point very well taken, indeed. An internal combustion engine-related transmission for a motor vehicle.
My introduction, as it were, to human trannies and homosexuals, took place, appropriately enough, in Sodom-on-the-Bay. Guy tried to pick me up and hang out with him and his really swell friends on their Sausalito houseboat. I was 18 and I bailed ricky-tick and back to my hotel. Again in Thailand, in Ubon Ratchathani, Nakhon Phanom, and Krung Thep (Bangkok). Could always tell by the Adams apple and just the general vibes they gave off.
Wife and her mom also have had a gay couple as friends for decades, who live in north-country New York around Hebron. I’ve met them a few times; they got “married” out in Sodom-on-the-Bay when that imbecile libturd mayor made it a huge thing for himself. Haven’t seen them in years but they stay in touch. Their careers have, almost stereotypically, been in social services and musical/theater performance.
Well, at least they’ve had careers. I’ve had a succession of loser drone jobs my whole life. Mr. nick’s “Junkman” status would be several steps up for me.
Wind seems to have finally died down; wife ran into several massive and violent t-storms in NH and southern VT earlier and is staying at her mom’s place tonight down in beeyooteeful Shelburne Bay. We’ll get back on track with laundry and dump runs and other chit tomorrow. Plus the vets combat support group thing.
And now back to the second season of Ripper Street on Netflix.
[snip] Shoveling snow, chipping ice off the cars, x-c skiing, snowshoeing, and I’d try ice-fishing [snip]
I’ve never even had any desire to do any of that, let alone actually having done so.
Running as root should be thought of as break dancing in a minefield, lots and lots of bad things might happen. That said, I have my Linux boxes set up to at least allow me. I vaguely recall some time back a story about a web hosting company that lost a bunch of customer data because someone running as root did rm -fr * . Ouch, ouch, ouch.
Then there was the very recent AWS outage that messed up a whole bunch of chit for a few hours. A guy ran a script or something that was only supposed to take down one small group of servers and it took out quite a few more, too. Whoops.
And you haven’t lived until you’ve stood in three feet of snow chipping ice off your windshield as the Siberian wind blasts snow and ice crystals into your face. Wakes you right up in the morning! Then do it every morning most of a winter.
But we haven’t had much of that lately, thanks to the Nazi Trump and his Brownshirt battalions spewing Nazi carbon into the atmosphere and causing massive changewarmingclimate.
Fixed my car heater controls with JUNK YARD parts not long ago.
Saved a lot of money. Treated with respect by a local business.
Overpriced parts on eBay were broken and incomplete…
(Also used Harbor Freight plastic pry-bars!)
Hey, I pounded new wheel covers onto the Toyota Matrix the other day using only my fist!
And the bloody things have stayed on this time, over several hundred miles of driving since.
What are these “wheel covers” of which you speak?
Do they perform some actual function?
Actually, I pulled off the most recent wheel covers (what we used to call hubcaps) years ago with my bare hands, and never put them back on. Center caps, which are more of an actual hubcap, yeah, those tend to come off (one way or another), too.
I have heard the story that cop cars don’t have the large wheel covers because they tend to cut into the valve stems in heavy cornering (like makes the wheels flex). Never cut valve stems, but did fling off full wheel covers while cornering, so…
Wheel covers = Hubcaps
Seems to have been a language change over the last ten or twenty years, maybe?
Function? Protect the actual wheels and bolts from excessive wear and tear? But probably for the sake of appearance. Unless someone else here has better info.
The Matrix looked kinda dull and crappy until I put the wheel covers on. Now it looks mostly OK. (Don’t look inside; it’s full of rubbish and flotsam and jetsam from Princess).
True story: once during the teenage horror years, we told her to clean her room. So she took all the junk and rubbish and other crap out of her room and dumped it all on our bed.
Those of you with daughters about to enter the teenage years?
Abandon hope, all ye who enter here…
Of course, there is the case where a 16 year old transgender “girl” filed a complaint against a Texas school TA for telling it to not use the women’s restroom.
http://www.fox4news.com/news/239494805-story
Oh wait, is that a macro aggression on my part for the “it” ?

No daughters here, but I have two neices. The elder was a total handfull as a kid but turned into a sweet and thoughtful teenager, against all expectations. The younger was the exact reverse.

I don’t know why anyone cares. Just let ’em go wherever they want. They’re just all attention seekers.
[snip] stood in three feet of snow chipping ice off your windshield [snip]
Isn’t that one of the purposes of a garage? Or am I revealing myself as the neighborhood freak who actually parks his car in same?
Freak!!!!
“Those of you with daughters about to enter the teenage years?

Gee. Thanks. My eldest is 9 and already starting the pouty thing. Not to worry, though. I fully expect that and a whole lot more, so I’m not surprised by it. (I didn’t say “ready”, just not surprised.) She and her siblings will be treated as my siblings and I were. Praised for the good things, punished for the bad things, and understood for the angsty things. That, and love ’em no matter what.
” My eldest is 9 and already starting the pouty thing.”
I wonder if that’s genetically determined or a learned behaviour.
Pretty much everything is is genetically-determined or at least strongly influenced.
Nah, I think females (especially Princess, and my grand niece) are taught that sort of behaviour at special fembat led classes men aren’t allowed anywhere near.
If it’s genetic, she came by it honestly. If it’s environmental, I can point to the two young ladies she’s learning it from.
In either case, she knows there are limits to what is tolerated, as she has encountered them already. But given the experiences of others, I’m wondering.
I don’t think it’s “either-or.” They’re all different, and both influences are probably present to lesser or greater degrees. I’d guess that there is genetic, and that it gets kicked up several notches by the environmental influences from other family members and the commie matriarchy that’s run the publik skool systems and universities for decades now.
I just want the fems to stop shopping in my closet without my permission.
Put a lock on it.
Put a lock on it.
Heh. It is a shared closet with the wife. And the wife is the mostly guilty party.
Put a lock on it..
What RBT sez; put a dahn lock on it, pilgrim!
Wife here steals my tee-shirts and gets paint on them. They come to her knees.
Both of you… You haven’t watched enough James Bond movies.
Just get some mouse traps, set them, leave them with the stuff the wimminz are purloining, and wait for them to learn their lesson.
DH, collect all the keys to your car and don’t let Princess have them under any circumstances.
I just want an older diesel truck with a manual transmission that neither wife nor daughter will wanna drive. Meanwhile, yeah, I gotta shut down the Princess driving the RAV from now on. We put $4,000 into her Matrix and it now has a new windshield and wipers, inspection sticker and a bunch of other stuff that got done, plus the wheel covers I pounded on with my fist. She can take it across the border with our permission note and KEEP it up there; no more of this back-and-forth every weekend. She also needs to get a job ASAP until she returns to school in the fall and I’ve heard nothing about that lately. AND she has to renew her Murkan passport, which would solve these problems immediately.
We’ll see how this all goes down, if it does, in the AM.
This is what I mean. 3m 40 s in…
