07:54 – Barbara seemed to like her Petri dishes and Eppie tubes. She asked me to put them somewhere safe and keep them for her.
The drop-dead deadline on the book is 31 January, so for the next two months I’ll be working heads-down on the book. It’s shaping up well, but a lot remains to be done.

I hope all the birthday gifts I’ve bought for my wife go over better than the Petri dishes and Eppie tubes.
My wife and I stopped doing the gift thing. We both just got tired of spending money to buy each other something that we didn’t really want all that much anyway. We both make decent money so we typically buy ourselves and each other whatever we want throughout the year (within reason), so when it came time for gift giving it just became this really stressful waste of money.
We still make a big deal over birthdays and other holidays. We just don’t do the gift part for each other.
Our daughter usually makes out like a bandit though. 🙂
Heads-down on the book? But you will have to make time for Christmas tree cutting and decoration, the placement of wreaths and stockings over the fire place for that jolly old elf to deliver even better toyz to, and ….oh wait…I’m talking to Scrooge Writ Large here.

For my wife and I it is mostly pick out what you want, wrap it, and put it under the tree. Both of us are getting hard to buy gifts for.
I remember it being difficult to get stuff for my grandparents. I used to buy my grandmother a Poinsettia, my grandfather a small Lego set. They both actually enjoyed those gifts, for 10 years. It was not so much the gift, but that you remembered.
For this year I bought myself a Nikon S6100 P&S camera. I really needed something that I could carry in my pocket and my DSLR just did not qualify. P&S cameras have gotten to the point that they take really good pictures, are small, and not terribly expensive (I paid $120.00). I will probably just leave the camera on auto for most of the pictures as part of the convenience is not having to fuss with settings. I probably would never use it for a wedding, sports or formal portraits.
