Hey! You big cheater, you weren’t first. There were about three comments on this post earlier, and I was first.

I won’t abuse my godlike powers and retcon anyone’s post or comments, but I could….

I’d trust him to have my back, and he’d be welcome here if TSHTF.

  6. MrAtoz says:

I still think your head would be bigger.

  7. Dave Hardy says:

My head is pretty friggin’ big; always gotta get the biggest hat size. 7 and 3/4.

If I get the Fed job, I’ll lose the hair and trim the facial stuff down to almost nuthin’. If not, I’m takin’ over for Bigfoot.

I figure, throw the pic up for an experiment, OPSEC for me is screwed six ways from Sunday anyway w/regard to that and fingerprints and multiple background checks by now.

  8. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

The FBI has had a file on me for 42 years.

  9. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

I just checked. I wear an XXXXXXXL or XXXXXXXXL hat. Call it 9″ to 9-3/8″.

  10. Nick Flandrey says:

    holy hat size batman!

    That’s some thick bone! (ha!)

  11. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

People have always accused me of having a swollen head. It is funny to watch someone put on one of my (custom-made) hats. It falls down over their ears and stops only when the crown is stopped by the top of his head.

I contacted Smithbilt about buying one of their cowboy hats, and they said they didn’t offer them that big, even custom.

  12. DadCooks says:

So did you wipe your first posting of “The real OFD” to get rid of my Grateful Dead tee-shirt comment?

Well it’s not going to be that easy, I’ll repeat that it looks like you need need a Grateful Dead tee-shirt 😉

  13. Dave Hardy says:

I had a Grateful Dead tee-shirt that I got for $25 back in the 1980s at Shaky Jake’s Boutique on Highland Street in Woostah, MA, but a few years ago, between wife and daughter wearing it and tearing holes in it and spilling paint on it, no more. So now I’m practicing for ‘orange is the new black’ or whatever.

    AACCKKKK !! PLFFFTTP !!

That was scary. Please warn us before you do that again!

I need to calm down now…..FLASHLIGHTS!!

  15. lynn says:

Huh, I had a comment here about all the Blitz books but it seems to have disappeared.

I’m not convinced that this is really OFD’s picture. Kinda looks like Mountain Man on “Duck Dynasty” before the beard. And where is the grey hair ?

My hair was almost totally grey at age 48 when this picture was taken. Now it is totally grey / white (what hasn’t fallen out) and my muzzle has gone over 50% grey.

  16. Miles_Teg says:

Grey hair is distinguished Lynn – I started going grey at 20, so I am much more distinguished than you.

  17. SteveF says:

You know how it’s said that couples start to look alike? One may suppose that Miles_Teg’s hair started turning white to match the sheep he’d been doinking since he was a teen.

  18. Miles_Teg says:

OFD, how often do you dye your hair?

  19. Dave says:

I’d trust him to have my back, and he’d be welcome here if TSHTF.

I would trust him to have my back as well.

I just wouldn’t buy a used car from him, especially if it was a Saab!!!

  20. Dave Hardy says:

I only have gray in my facial hair, nowhere else, and do not use dyes. My paternal grandfather kept his red hair, though thinning like mine is now, until he checked out. My dad’s hair, on the other hand, was gone by his late 20s.

  21. MrAtoz says:

Another grey haired head buzzer here. I buzz it every couple of days. I have really fine thinning hair so really prefer the buzzed look.

  22. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

Over the years, my hair has faded from extremely bright red to a grayish blond.

I remember one time at the barber probably thirty years ago. He was using scissors on my hair, which in self-defense grabbed the scissors and literally threw them across the room. He commented that my hair was so thick that I never needed to worry about ever going bald.

I sold him my 79 Jeep CJ, which I wish now I’d kept.

  23. Al says:

    Cool.

Always wondered though, what does OFD stand for?

  24. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

    Old Farmer Davy

  25. Dave Hardy says:

It comes from the time we lived on an old, semi-abandoned circa 1806 farm back in Montpeculiar, VT, on the very outskirts along what was once an old carriage path. I’m now older than that, as we moved here 70 miles northwest four years ago, to this old village on the bay formerly known as Port Washington.

Some wiesenhiemers here have from time to time come up with other words that OFD stands for, thinking themselves quite clever.

  26. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

What else could it possibly stand for? 😉

  27. Dave Hardy says:

Hey, I’m not the only “hyper-literate” bastid here, use yer imagination! I bet MrAtoz and Mr. SteveF between them can come up with a whole list. And the “F” paht is easy.

  28. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

So, it really did mean “Old Fucking Degenerate”?

  29. Dave Hardy says:

    Or “Obstreperous Fucking Douchenozzle”

  30. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

Okay, fair is fair. OFD just posted a picture of himself. I’m all over the Internet, in both stills and videos. So how about the rest of you guys? If you’re a regular commenter here, how about emailing an image of yourself to me at thompson (at) ttgnet (dot) com. I’ll post them as I get them, assuming they’re serious pictures. (Yes, that means you SteveF; no pictures of horses’ asses and so on.)

  31. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

And another small box just arrived from Walmart via FedEx. This one had two 5-pound bags of pasta in it. I realize that, like Amazon, Walmart gets the best shipping rates available, but even so. They just shipped me something I paid $6.34 for. Shipping had to cost them a significant percentage of that amount.

  32. dkreck says:

I think I posted a link here back on Indigenous Peoples’ Day 2015.
    Oh yeah, here

  33. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

So you’re orange, white, and green and kinda flat?

  34. lynn says:

I would trust him to have my back as well.

    Me too.

I just wouldn’t buy a used car from him, especially if it was a Saab!!!

Me too. My parents owned two Volvos in the 1970s. Never again. The electrical connections were paper taped together. The engine was straight out of a tractor.

  35. lynn says:

Hey, my linkedin picture has got to count. It is only eight or ten years old. And that is my son behind me when he was active duty in the Marines.

Grey hair is distinguished Lynn – I started going grey at 20, so I am much more distinguished than you.

My front bald spot joined my back bald spot at age 33. But the greying started at age 30. My mother says it is our Belgium heritage since my grandmother and she both went grey at age 30.

My wife has been coloring her hair for decades, the Cherokee diluting her English strawberry blond hair. And the chemotherapy 12 years ago really messed with her hair color when it came back.

  36. dkreck says:

    Orange! That’s red baby.

Here was my comment from 10/12/15

    BTW

    Happy Indigenous Peoples Day!

    ……

I’ve flown it all weekend. Pole hand made from 5′ of PVC pipe, a ping pong ball and some white spray paint. Flag attached with zip ties. Flag from Amazon Prime <$7.
    Put it away tonight.
I take it in at night for fear some ass will mistake it for a Mexican flag and lift it.

  37. lynn says:

Another grey haired head buzzer here. I buzz it every couple of days. I have really fine thinning hair so really prefer the buzzed look.

I go by Supercuts every two weeks and the Vietnamese lady buzzes me down using a #1 guard. I have about 10 to 15 hairs on the top but the sides are still 1,000/in2.

My son shaves his head and face every 3 to 4 days. In the Marine Corps, that was the only place of heat release wearing all that body armor.

  38. dkreck says:

LADY! No, no, no, no. Real barber once a month. This will probably be may last if he stays in biz, I’ve outlived the last two even though I was older than my last one. This guy is in his mid thirties, small shop, usually no waiting.
Once a month $10 bucks, looks fine.

  39. Ray Thompson says:

    LADY! No, no, no, no.

My current barber is a lady. Does a good job and I have been using her for 15 years. Used to use a male barber and she worked in his shop. He retired and she bought the business. Gave her a try and it was OK. I am not real particular.

    Real barber once a month

I only go about once every 75 days. Hated getting haircuts in the military. Especially when some asshat officer would tell you to get a haircut two days after you got one. Then come back to their office for inspection and get told to go again. Of course the asshat was bald and I chalk it up to follicle envy.

  40. DadCooks says:

Since we seem to be shifting to full disclosure mode ;-), I have updated my Gravatar and sent a copy of the JPG to @RBT.

My assistant, critic of my haircut, is my hand raised kitten Jasper, 4-months old in this picture (no 6-months). Since I fed him from day 1 he thinks I am his “mother”, well bringer of food anyway.

  41. CowboySlim says:

I go to my lady barber every fourth Thursday morning. I have house cleaning people come every other Thursday, so every other visit I get a haircut to get away from the vacuum cleaner noise

  42. Dave Hardy says:

I’ll update my own viz if and when I cut the hair off for the Fed job, but that’s doubtful, so WYSIWYG and current.

I’ll do the before-and-after pics of the cellar and attic work space soon, well, the before pics, anyway.

  43. CowboySlim says:

    Non-selfie in the mail.

  44. SteveF says:

(Yes, that means you SteveF; no pictures of horses’ asses and so on.)

-gasp-! I’ve been maligned! Besmirched! Impugned!

I was, in fact, going to send a real picture, of me, not photoshopped or anything.* But now I’m going to have to think of something special.

    * Though possibly including my daughter, who is more photogenic than I.

  45. Dave Hardy says:

I love those words, “malign(ed)” and “impugn(ed”. We should use more big words here. They’re English, and eminently available. See what I just did there? Alliteration. lol. Fun with English! Lots of alliteration even in Old English. Buggers also loved to play with words.

We’re the last generation that bothers to read books, so why not have fun with it until we check out, eh?

  46. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

Besmirched is my favorite of that group.

  47. dkreck says:

Or the appropriate comeback, “Hey, I resemble that”.

  48. Nick Flandrey says:

Pulchritudinous? Man talk about a word that doesn’t sound like what it means….

    I always just assumed Old F’n Dave…..

    n

  49. Dave Hardy says:

It’s the sounds of the words that create meaning a lot of the time; that of “pulchritudinous” hits me as what it means probably from reading Latin on and off for nearly half a century and at some point seeing it as describing some Roman beauty, maybe one of the Vestal Virgins.

Yup, you can get “OFD” to mean a lot of things, no doubt. But it was originally Old Farmer Davy, as we’d hoped to get that small farm going again somehow but it was too much for us and would have cost arms and legs, probably, and it’s in a troublesome location. And we’re too effin old for that chit. Enough hassle here with raised beds and grow bags and finding enough sunlight.

  50. SteveF says:

The sunlight problem could be fixed by getting the wallyhogs to go elsewhere, Ol’ Factory Disaster.

Here is me with the spousal unit. I would be the one on the right.

Taken while visiting Seattle WA after dumping my aunt’s ashes at Beckett Point. Also took a trip to La Push WA. Far west, almost as far west as you can go and stay dry. Two lane road into the place, no phone, no internet, no TV. Spent three nights there. Flew my kite, a high performance steerable model that in a strong wind will cause you to lose your footing, until I broke a part in a particular nasty crash while doing a risky maneuver. Also spent a lot of time just sitting on the driftwood heaps watching the ocean. Highly recommended and will do it again.

The kite I fly when I visit beaches or locally here when there is wind.

I have taken it through airport security but generally get inspected and questioned about what it is. Generally have to open the carrying case. Then when I get on the plan I have to explain it to the aisle mules because I guess they are curious.

  52. Ray Thompson says:

    Our Favorite Dysfunctional.

  53. Nick Flandrey says:

Cool kite! When we go to the beach I generally loft everything I have. I’ve been buying kites for $5 at yard sales so I could have fun with the kids.

I put in a couple of screw anchors and just launch everything that isn’t broken.

I finally had enough wind to get my box kit up last time.

My favorite is a 5ft that is very similar to yours, without all the fancy schmancy. It does have a long spinner for a tail and it looks spectacular backlit with sun. I send it up to the end of the string.

All our friends know to look for kites to find us on the beach.

    nick

  54. Ray Thompson says:

The kite I have is steerable. You and do loops, fly horizontally drawing a line in the sand with the wing tips, high speed when going horizontal, and land the kite. Takes some practice to get it down. Had the kite at Kitty Hawk with one of our exchange students. We tried to see who could draw the longest line in the sand. I got about 60 feet as did the exchange student.
