10:36 – More labeling of bottles and vials today. Barbara got enough done yesterday to almost run us out of unused 30 mL cylinders and run us down to just over a case of the 15 mL cylinders. I’ll reorder those today.
Barbara is heading down to Winston on Thursday to have dinner with a friend and run errands. She’ll stay with Frances and Al on Thursday night, have lunch Friday with a different friend, make a Costco run, and head back home to Sparta. That leaves Colin and me free to pursue wild women and parties while she’s gone. Or not.
.
“…free to pursue wild women and parties while she’s gone.”
More trouble than it’s worth; been there and done that. Not recently, of course. Better to just sit by the fire with a book and the radio. Maybe play a game of Solitaire or cribbage. Periodically check the perimeter webcams on yer smartypants phone, maybe load up some more mags.
Bright but overcast here; usual later winter temps in the 20s; wife’s AO in southern NH this week expecting a squall of freezing rain, sleet, ice, etc., so she’ll be hunkering down nights and not gallivanting around the beeyooteeful downtown Manchester area, where, incidentally, your northern correspondent once met Mr. P.J. Buchanan and Mrs. Buchanan and his brother some years ago, during a Gun Owners of New Hampshire caper.
Here is a way to stop the FSA arriving if you have a good line of sight.

Just had a kind of strange experience: A guy from the local town sent me email – completely out of the blue – if we could have a drink together. He’s pretty obviously looking for a job, but when I told him I’m not in a position to help with that, he still wanted to get together. It was a bar right next to the train station, but no strangers other than me: the bar tender knew everyone who walked in.
Anyhow, he was showing me some of his projects, and it’s pretty clear that he’s a talented young programmer. He’s written some complex stuff. Zero comments, but clean code, some in PHP, some in Python, some in C. He’s a long-haired, alternate culture type, which is generally fine in IT. I’ve had a pony tail too, like probably half of y’all. Ok, SteveF is bald, but I mean, before that…
So I have to wonder: why is he having trouble landing a job? Even if not as a programmer, then as a sys-admin who writes cool scripts to automate his job? Ah, well, not my problem. Here’s hoping he finds something…
@brad, maybe because the global economy is in the toilet?
n
Unemployment for people starting out is high, very high. Even a college degree is no longer a guarantee of job. Hell, even in technical areas jobs can be hard to find. My son has a AAS in medical lab technology and a EMT certificate. He has been looking for work for over a year. The best he has been able to find is stocking shelves for a big box store.
“So I have to wonder: why is he having trouble landing a job?”
What Mr. nick said, but also, who knows? Maybe he’s a dick with a lousy employment record, or has some kinda security thing hanging over his head. I’m an old sys admin who can cobble scripts together in bash and vim and a little Python, and with the commenting so other drones can easily see WTF, but I figure it’s the age thing. Also a small state here, mostly rural. And Gawd forbid any of us be allowed to work remote.
“…a way to stop the FSA arriving if you have a good line of sight.”
Nice. OFD is way too big to squat behind that bugger, though. For anti-armor I’d be looking at RPGs w/armor-piercing rounds, but dealing with tanks in a hostile environment would be quite dangerous, lol. For FSA hordes, load it with anti-personnel stuff, the ol’ ‘whiff of grapeshot…’
Cool Toob channel; subscribed. Ya never know when one of these sorts of things turns up at a yard sale.
Old Europe lies prostrate before the musloid hordes, it seems. Only a couple of countries over there seem serious about dealing with it. Meanwhile our daughter has decided to learn Turkish now. Could be useful.
https://refugeeresettlementwatch.wordpress.com/2016/02/23/invasion-of-europe-2016-off-to-a-quick-start/
My Son has a BA in Mechanical Engineering (had an Intern stint with Northrup doing some top secret design work for which he received a really nice reference letter that is worthless), an AAS in CAD, and an AAS in Machine Technology. There are so many old experienced Engineers and AASs out there that there are no jobs for recent graduates. It took him 18-months to land his current job working as a Solid Works Drafter making 1/4 of what his degrees should have him making.
And yet the trade mags are full of whining about how hard it is to find qualified help.
And how all the aerospace engineers are retiring.
I translate that into “hard to find supermen at no money”.
nick
Arabic or Farsi would be a lot more useful. The way things are going, Turkish might be the next dead language.
“I translate that into “hard to find supermen at no money”.”
+1,000
Yeah, always the complaints on how we just caint seem to find good solid Murkan workers wid da true knowledge and skillz…blah, blah, blah. I hear the same crap in the IT field yet hundreds of us laid off from IBM nearly three years ago are still outta work. Red Hat, for petesakes, when I’m told that Linux peeps are in desperately short supply. Well, we’ll see if I get a call for this latest RH drone job down in Montpeculiar this week; doubtful.
“Arabic or Farsi would be a lot more useful.”
Not to worry; she’ll undoubtedly get around to those at some point; currently she has French, Italian, German, Spanish, Greek, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Mandarin Chinese and Turkish. She just learns whatever language on a whim and has it down in a few weeks. Same with musical instruments. Tell her to learn Japanese by summer and how to play the French horn and she’ll do it without breaking a sweat. (tell her to clean out my car after she’s trashed it or the kitchen and you’ll wait till Hell freezes over).
Hump for Trump 2016!

Hard to find work ? My 21 yr old granddaughter is selling shots and waiting tables at a cowboy dance club making $300+ a night. She is saving up to buy her first rental house.
“My 21 yr old granddaughter is selling shots and waiting tables at a cowboy dance club making $300+ a night.”
Is she as cute as me?
Hell, where is this club? I’ll sell shots and wait tables for that kinda dough…
Yeah my daughter works waiting table at a grill and wine joint(overpriced but in high end of town). She can have some great nights and sometimes get stiffed as well. Used to work the bar there and always made a killing but her boyfriend can’t handle it. She only works about three nights a week because of school. Going to be a CPA hopefully.
“Going to be a CPA hopefully.”
Oh boy, another chuckle for OFD’s overcast day here:
Youngest brother’s oldest of two princess daughters, my niece, in other words, just had a quarter-million dollars spent on her university education out in Kalifornia for an accounting degree and the CPA designation. She did an internship and then got a full-time job at Price, Cooper, Waterhouse in SF and about a month ago just quit. Why? Because she didn’t like fetching coffee and whatever for the more senior people there. Went over to Yelp for a sales job and has made no sales and expects Daddy and Mommy to cover her expenses until she does and buy her a car, because she HATES riding the BART with smelly and disgusting drunks, junkies, gangbangers and hookers.
I’ve talked w several managers or HR people (in the US) about H1-B employees. If they say anything hinting at saving money by hiring Indians rather than Americans, I ask if they’re aware that they just admitted to conspiracy to violate federal law. Unless something’s changed without my noticing (and I try to keep up with it), H1-Bs are allowed in only if qualified Americans (and green card holders) are not available at any price. Of course, that part of the law seems to be completely ignored, but it is still part of the black-letter law.
“…H1-Bs are allowed in only if qualified Americans (and green card holders) are not available at any price. Of course, that part of the law seems to be completely ignored…”
Among the hundreds of us laid off from IBM three years ago, some of us IT guys were replaced by people in India, Slovakia and Mexico, and not me, but a couple of other guys were required to train their replacements. So those people are not actually HERE, of course. But I noticed when we were having annual security audits, every single one of the auditor teams on-site was composed of peeps using ESL, from all over the map. No Murkans available for that work, of course, and this is not even getting into why wouldn’t companies TRAIN their own Murkan drones rather than import them or risk security issues by doing their business overseas. The particular IBM site being a major defense contractor and us being required to have security clearances and renew our ITAR stuff annually. What a joke.
Had some auditors come in recently for some BS certification. Our accountant told me they were asking why the amounts on some document were wrong. Dumb ol’ IT guy had to tell them in the freight business amounts are done by hundred-weight. Sheeeeesh… smart bunch (all women).
Yeah, one of the things I noticed when the security auditors rolled through our site, it was mostly women; they tend to gravitate toward those gigs and management, so every once in a while you’d get one for a boss that would make it clear to you: “I don’t have to know IT or how to do YOUR job. I just need to know how to manage you.” And they couldn’t even do that right, either. And the fem drones like us that I saw in the last few years? They got flex-time hours, drifted in late in the morning, took long-ass lunches and left early; also got to “work” from home a lot. And once on-site, a lotta time spent schmoozing with each other and planning forced socialization bullshit for everybody else. And they bitterly resented our resentment of that stuff.
Ya gotta laugh at the Dumbocrats backpedaling their pie-holes about SCOTUS nominations (caught on vid). “I didn’t mean that” “I was misinterpreted” and, lol, “It doesn’t matter now”. I guess they got that last one from Cankles.
Lie right to your f*cking face and Boobus Americanus nods away. Where’s my free shit. The iPhone 7 will be out just in time to become the CanklePhone.
My SIL is at a NV caucus site. Says it’s a total goat rope. Running out of ballots, not checking IDs. lol Maybe Bush will win now that he is out. lol
“Lie right to your f*cking face and Boobus Americanus nods away. Where’s my free shit. The iPhone 7 will be out just in time to become the CanklePhone.”
Duh, they must be tellin us da troot, eh? They in gummint and smarter than us, why would they lie? And pixels an’ shit. Lotsa pixels. Screen time. Wait–iPhone 7 out? Where mine? Fuck! Lemme grab a spot in line right now! Bring a lawn chair an’ a teevee.
“… it’s a total goat rope. Running out of ballots, not checking IDs. lol Maybe Bush will win now that he is out. lol”
Wheeeeeeee! Gon hab me sum fun this year. Meanwhile, read up on the Bush and Klinton shenanigans in them Roger Stone books; make yer hair stand on end. And all this time we had peeps on both sides screaming at us to vote for one or the other. Hahahahaha….Wheeeeeeeee!
Now it’s gonna be “Hey man I doan like Trump, think he’s an asshole but shit man I gotta vote AGAINST the other one…” And once again we is rope-a-doped wid this shit. They must laugh their asses off; run the same fucking game every four years and Murkan Derp grabs at it every time. Wheeeeeeeee!

Live hard, die fast and leave a beeeyoooteeeful corpse, eh? We sure will see who stands up and who kneels.

“Bracken: What I Saw At The Coup”
https://westernrifleshooters.wordpress.com/2012/09/11/what-i-saw-at-the-coup/
Well, that is about as dystopian future for the USA as I have read.
Except for Heinlein’s stuff.
I met an Iranian guy here at the conference who has a PhD in Chemical Engineering from OU. Smart , very smart. Much smarter than me. He was 17 when the revolution started. He was getting ready to enter Tehran University. Instead, his father bought him a plane ticket to the USA. Ali can never go home but his parents were able to come here a couple of times over the years.
He has two sons, one who is starting medical school at TAMU and the other is finishing med school at TAMU, getting ready to start his internship.
I like it when we, the USA, take the best and brightest from other countries.
Or we can take tens of thousands of violent uneducated, criminal sociopaths and day laborers.
nick
I know which one I prefer, and which one we got….
By “tens of thousands” you mean “tens of millions”, right?
” She did an internship and then got a full-time job at Price, Cooper, Waterhouse in SF and about a month ago just quit. Why? Because she didn’t like fetching coffee and whatever for the more senior people there.”
Geez, that’s just the price you pay, when you come in on the ground floor. If she had done her time, and taken the opportunity to learn how real life works, in a couple of years the interns would have been fetching coffee for her. Why does she think she is such a special snowflake?
Our youngest is currently having his first introduction to the real world: 10 months militia service. Even though he lucked out and landed a desk job, it’s still sleeping in a barracks, up before dawn, and the usual military BS day and night. In his position, he’s a private in an office full of light colonels and up, so he’s somewhere below the bottom of the heap. Sucks going through it, but there are definitely some good life lessons to be learned.
”
By “tens of thousands” you mean “tens of millions”, right?
”
well, all of them might be criminals, but only some of the 30-40 million are violent gangbangers, dopers, and sociopaths. Unfortunately a large percentage of them seem to be into child rape as well.
Some are simply looking for a better life. They have my sympathy, but I still want them gone. Come back thru channels. Do it legally.

I think it is high time we abolished the H1B Visa. Replace it with employer sponsored visas that include legal right to work in the US for another employer either at the end of one year or when the employer decides to stop employing the visa holder. Auction off the visas for $5K to $10K. Also enforce the requirement that these visas only be granted when a candidate cannot be found in the US.
“Why does she think she is such a special snowflake?”
Indeed. All us cranky old adults think the same thing. We’ve all started out eating some chit and moved on from there, although some of us still eat a little now and again. We’ll see how the other three nieces manage in the near few-chah.
They get around that all the time. I worked at a place where they really liked this Pakistani programmer. So, in order to make sure they couldn’t fill his position with a US citizen they advertised the job something like this: “VB.NET programmer needed. Must be fluent in Urdu and English and possess a current knowledge of Pakistani culture in order to interface with offshore vendors.” Naturally, they had a hard time finding a US citizen to fill that role. I appreciate the company’s loyalty to that person. That’s rare these days, but somewhere out there an American citizen looking for a programming job got fucked.
OFD’s fantasy job posting:
“Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems administrator needed. Must be Mayflower descendant and decorated combat veteran of three U.S. wars with law enforcement experience. Should be hyper-literate and ultra-fluent in English and possess a deep and comprehensive knowledge of American culture from 1609 to the present in order to interface with American vendors and customers.”
but OFD, THAT culture has no value! The kind of people who like THOSE things are too icky to have as customers. WE celebrate FGM, child rape, child brides, female oppression, and if you can’t celebrate those things, you have no place here.

I had to jump through hoops and engage the assistance of a friendly MP to get my first work permit to work in UK IT in 1995. One of the issues was that I had responded to an on-line advert and Her Majesties immigration service deemed that Internet Advertising was not acceptable and didn’t meet the technical definition of “position advertised in international media”. With the help of my friends MP, I did receive my permit and a sternly worded letter from immigration, saying this was the first visa issued for a position found via the Internet and a warning that I would be putting my visa at risk if I were to publicize how I found my position.
My next UK work visa was much easier, obtained by the MCI/WorldCom legal dept in 1998. They then transferred me to Hong Kong and handled all the visa issues. You got to love what high priced immigration lawyers can do. From Hong Kong I went to New Zealand who has a very sane and sensible immigration process. Wish I had stayed there and not returned in 2004.
“…female oppression…”
This one has always puzzled me; many tales over the years of Taliban shooting women in Kabul soccer stadiums in front of jeering mobs; women in musloid “culture” treated worse than cattle or swine; family members murdering their daughters and sisters after they’ve been raped; and yet, from the Western fembat crowd….crickets. Meanwhile Cankles is all about how she has a vagina and that alone qualifies her for the WH Sock Puppet job and we just gotta have women in front-line combat roles and we don’t have NEARLY enuff women CEO roles, science faculty, and IT leadership.
Priorities, I guess. Rich and spoiled Western womyn really don’t give a blind rat’s ass about their “sisters” suffering under musloid rule and repression.
This, ladies and germs, is known in the dictionary as rank HYPOCRISY.
As for my old American culture, I’d dearly love to have it all back, but without the Calvinist/Puritan hogwash. Probably inseparable, though, and it ain’t coming back anytime soon, if ever. It’s been shit-canned in favor of the prevailing court party and its imperialist project.
I think when I retire I may wander up to OFD’s neck of the woods and drop in for a visit. Just a couple of hours to look at his toys and show him some real FLASHLIGHTS. He needs cheering up from someone with a positive mental attitude. I promise to leave my Hillary Fan Club membership card at home.
Hey, Ray, you’re welcome to stop over at our place. Just call first so that I can disable the mines.
Mimes. I meant mimes. A yard full of mimes is enough to discourage any intruders. I would never dream of having mines in our yard.
OFD,
With all the languages, princess has a future as a UN translator. As to the horn (not french), I think not. It, along with the oboe and bassoon are the most difficult instruments to learn and master. The principal horn position in an orchestra is so stressful–having to be able to hit the notes perfectly again and again, that it is typically second only to the concertmaster (first chair first violin) in salary.
IT (senior systems engineer) / bassoonist (freelance) here, so know ere whence I spake.
.mg
The mutt goes in the neighbor’s yard? ’Cause “little surprises” are what I always think of when a dog owner mentions land mines in the yard.
Ray, see if you can bring a strong enough FLASHLIGHT to shine down into the depths of Lake Champlain so you can spot Champ. If you don’t see the monster, it means you need a more powerful FLASHLIGHT.
“As to the horn (not french), I think not.”
She doesn’t currently do any wind instruments; she works on keyboards and stringed, mainly Celtic harp and violin/fiddle lately. But maybe next week she’ll learn trombone or tuba, who knows.
“With all the languages, princess has a future as a UN translator.”
You say UN and I said CIA and she made a nasty face, so the latter is probably out, which is just as well. Be just like her to sign up with the commies at the UN or similar, though.
“I think when I retire I may wander up to OFD’s neck of the woods and drop in for a visit. Just a couple of hours to look at his toys and show him some real FLASHLIGHTS. He needs cheering up from someone with a positive mental attitude. I promise to leave my Hillary Fan Club membership card at home.”
Mos def bring some real FLASHLIGHTS and I’ll show ya some real TOYZ. I have a positive mental attitude; I believe we will prevail against the Enemy eventually. And I’ll keep my Buchanan Fan Club membership cahd outta sight.
“… shine down into the depths of Lake Champlain so you can spot Champ. If you don’t see the monster, it means you need a more powerful FLASHLIGHT.”
I dunno if they make one that powerful; underwater out in the bay is pretty effin murky, plus LOTS of wavy plant life, very green under there. Further out the water gets a lot deeper, up to 400 feet or more in some spots, and of course there are outlets north and south to the north Atlantic Ocean. I suspect Champ moves in and out of the northern outlet, though, to the Saint Lawrence Seaway, where he or she can swim alongside his or her blue whale buddies.
“…but without the Calvinist/Puritan hogwash. Probably inseparable, though, and it ain’t coming back anytime soon, if ever…”
The Calvinists are taking over the Southern Baptists, largely succeded I think.
Well, I can’t worry too much about the Calvinists and Baptists; we got our own problems right now in Holy Mother Church, with a neo-Marxist SJ pope and the usual yet-to-be dispersed smoke of Satan out in the vestibule. Also, Frankie apparently hasn’t looked at a decent economics text done in the last five-hundred years or so and sez stuff based on that. I’m thinking of sending him Hazlitt’s book or Sowell’s. I may bring some of this stuff up with our priest at some point; I’m now on his email list. He’s also got a FaceCrack page set up but when you go there, the content is steadily wiped out by a scrolling beige thing that keeps inviting you to sign up. I’m gonna talk to him about that, too. Maybe we can set up our own website and blog instead of that mess.
Sowell’s basic economics book is written in rather simplistic English. That probably won’t do for ol’ Frankie Baby. See if you can find a decent economics book written in SJWese. “Decent” is the operative word there; it’s easy to find a SJWese economics book which proclaims “Meany McWhite saves his money and does not contribute to the economy. Brotha Coolname spends everything he gets and helps the economy. At the end of the month, Coolname should be rewarded by having Meany’s money given to him.”
At the end of the month, Coolname should be rewarded by having Meany’s money given to him.
lol! How true. And then there is this:
Many Americans don’t have to worry about giving Uncle Sam part of their hard-earned cash for their income taxes this year.
An estimated 45.3 percent of American households — roughly 77.5 million — will pay no federal individual income tax, according to data for the 2015 tax year from the Tax Policy Center, a nonpartisan Washington-based research group. (Note that this does not necessarily mean they won’t owe their states income tax.)
Roughly half pay no federal income tax because they have no taxable income, and the other roughly half get enough tax breaks to erase their tax liability, explains Roberton Williams, a senior fellow at the Tax Policy Center.
Despite the fact that rich people paying little in the way of income taxes makes plenty of headlines, this is the exception to the rule: The top 1 percent of taxpayers pay a higher effective income tax rate than any other group (around 23 percent, according to a report released by the Tax Policy Center in 2014) — nearly seven times higher than those in the bottom 50 percent.
My wife and I fund Coolname and his 13 illegitimate punk kids every year. I know Mr. OFD scrapes to pay the IRS back taxes, which then goes to welfare queens of every race. See, I not a raciss ’cause I said *every* race. Yay for WHITEY! me.
I’ll translate Sowell’s book into medieval Latin.
And I know full well that our tax money is mostly wasted on gummint bullchit and invading barbarian savages and domestic sloths. But if we don’t pay it they’ll put us in jail. And take away our house and cars. If we also advocate to others that they don’t pay it, they’ll shoot us.
Why, it seems like just an election or two ago that there was massive butthurt over the claim that almost half of Americans pay no taxes. My, how time flies.
