07:54 – When I was talking with Kim yesterday, I mentioned Barbara seeing a guy in plain clothes wearing a pistol openly. Kim, who’s a New York City native, said that seeing that would make her extremely nervous. I said, “So, if I strapped on my pistol before the next time I walked Colin down here to see you, you’d be afraid of me?” She just laughed and said that of course she wouldn’t be afraid, because it’s me. What would scare her is a stranger openly carrying a weapon in public, which is a completely different thing from being afraid of the weapon itself. Given what’s been in the news constantly for years now, I have to admit that her fears are not unreasonable. Also, people like us have to remember that sheep aren’t afraid just of wolves. Sheepdogs terrify sheep, too, because we look a lot like wolves.
Speaking of culture, that Winston-Salem alderman who proposed changing the name of the Dixie Classic Fair because he considered it racially divisive has backed off fast because of an outpouring of outrage in phone calls and emails from his constituents. He’s withdrawn his proposal, apparently realizing that if he pushes it he doesn’t have a prayer of being re-elected.
More science kit stuff today. Yesterday was a slow day. We shipped only one science kit.
I was a Lowes gas station in Old Hickory Tennessee a couple of years ago getting gas when I noticed the chap in the next lane was wearing a gun in holster that was clearly not meant to be hidden. I have to admit I was a little uneasy about the situation. Not because of the person wearing the weapon, but in fear of dozens of police vehicles showing up along with their swat vehicles and military grade guns blazing over what was a perfectly legal situation.
These folks have peaceably assembled, and are openly carrying weapons. Yet how many people would quake at the sight of them?

Couple of funny things about that.
Never made the local or national news did it?
Love that Breitbart says they ” exercised their First and Second Amendment rights. ” That is definitely NOT the words the MSM would have chosen if they were white guys wearing camo.

What’s next? The US Army doing artillery practice at Stone Mountain to remove Lee’s image?
@chad,
It’s been proposed, not the method, but the result.
nick
Well, ISIS and the Taliban can show them how to obliterate a country’s history using artillery.
My observations on open carry:
A person carrying with a holster that is properly fitted to the gun and person is most likely a good citizen. You can tell a lot about their competence by those two points.
A gun shoved into the pants or being carried in the hand means you have someone who is up to no good. Seek cover, call 911, and prepare to protect the civilians (that is if you are concealed carry).
IMHO, open carry is a open challenge to not only the anti-gun nuts but also the hoodlum/thug who has that pistol shoved in his pants. So I’ll stay concealed carry and keep practicing my draw.
We must totally expunge all record of the Confederacy and wipe it out from all the history books, novels, poetry, songs, paintings and sculptures likewise forthwith. Hell, if the Soviets and Red Chinese could do it, we certainly could, and with much more up-to-date technology, too. And we’re well on the way to replicating their systems here.
Back in the late 70s I was helping a pal move his stuff out to Kentucky and we stopped at a packy in a pretty rural area and there was a bar right there inside the store, with two good ol’ boyz settin’ there having drinks. On each guy’s hip was a big ol’ holster and revolver, and I remember thinking “Fah out!”
A few ass-hats try to make some kind of point that they can legally OC in public and strut around toting whatever in what I could consider inappropriate and provocative settings, thus doing more to hurt us than help us. Plus they’ve now ID’d themselves to any bad guys in the vicinity and also to any trigger-happy cops who show up for whatever reason.
I CC all the time, of course, and am not about to sling an AR over my shoulder with my CZ P09 hanging off my belt and multiple mags when I show up for mass on Sunday mornings or go shopping at the Lowe’s. That time is Not Yet.
Well, the new Black Panther demo in Hempstead hit the MSM.

Even though the article refers to the Breitbart article, no mention of 1st or 2nd Amendment rights…

houston paper doesn’t even MENTION the guns…
http://www.click2houston.com/news/sandra-bland-rally-held-outside-waller-county-jail/34676208
and the AP says “dozens of heavily armed demonstrators About 25 demonstrators…”
Well, I guess 25 is ‘dozens’ technically.
ADDED:
and once again, we see why so many people are turning to a British ‘tabloid’ for news. The Daily Mail article is long, full of details and context, and has enough info to both understand what happened, why it happened, what they wanted, and so on. It was also the only article to mention that the NBPP is considered to be a hate group.
I’d say it’s time for Clinton to commit seppuku, but knowing her she’d probably commit it on someone else.
knowing her she’d probably commit it on someone else
And blame a third party.
Maybe The Mighty Trump ™ will accept Cankles’ offer of VP. Apparently he thinks she is a good person. Ugh!
And let the park service investigate….

Here they come! Look out Europe, you are about to become the US. So much for turning in your US citizenship. Might as well stay here with the rest of the derps.
“Camp of the Saints.” Happening now. We have our own version here.
“Apparently he thinks she is a good person. Ugh!”
Trump has hung out with Larry Klinton and his lovely wife Bruno many times over the years and evidently enjoys their company very much. Somewhat entertaining on the current game of charades circuit, but otherwise a disaster-in-waiting.
It boils down now to which clown will be at the switch when the runaway train goes off the tracks.
I just want to go on record that the beautiful and oh so fair Hillary is just alright with me. I am deeply considering voting for her.
Word is that there are plans being drawn up for a complete new set of stocks on the White House south lawn. 250 sets! I plan to do everything that I can to stay out of those.
They don’t do stocks. They do accidents and suicides.
Better burnish up yer prog creds…and as always…check yer priv.
A gun shoved into the pants or being carried in the hand means you have someone who is up to no good. Seek cover, call 911, and prepare to protect the civilians (that is if you are concealed carry).
Here in The Great State of Texas it is currently legal for a gun to “print” anywhere on your body if you have a CHL. Of course, we will have open carry for CHL holders on Sept 1, 2015. Printing is a gun showing itself via outline even though it is totally concealed. I know several people who carry in their pants pocket and occasionally print.
I would not call 911 unless someone is actively brandishing a gun at someone else.
And, the civilians should be protecting themselves. It is not my responsibility to protect someone who had the opportunity to protect themselves. I have myself and my loved ones to protect first.
The stocks are for those nasty Klinton critics after the election and the magnificent Hillary possesses the office of the President. The worst of the worst will be on public display for the public to treat accordingly. Tomato anyone?
Oh no, I just criticized!

According to this website, the Texas open carry date for CHL holders is Jan 1, 2016.

Yah, I was wonderin’ where ya got dat September date; I’d seen the January one not too long ago.
Still, I’d only do OC in rural/small-town areas where no one is bothered by it. Despite my goldurned RIGHT to do so at the Starbuck’s and Wall-mutt.
I posted some time ago about a guy who OC’d down a street in Vegas. Legal in NV, but the Metro Cops harassed him and finally arrested him for something. Released right after with no charges. It’s not worth it in a big city where the cops will blast you because “I feared for my life” at the drop of a hat.
finally arrested him for something
Yep, public inflatuation (farting, I made up that word) can get you arrested for disturbing the peace. Must be true because my wife keeps threatening to have me arrested for waking the dead.
“…for waking the dead.”
By the sound or the aroma or both?
oh well, the hardware was overpriced. All 4 units were still there at the end of day one, so that’s a pretty good clue. The seller was resigned, said she’d been hearing it all day.
Worn older ruger M77 in 30 06, a Remington 700 in 222 mag (which seems like a really strange cal) and a really old Rem, didn’t even look at cal and an air rifle.
If they are still there on Sat, maybe they’ll be reasonable. Not really what I’m looking for though.
Not much else of interest. Some minimal camping stuff, and an old Radio Shack handheld scanner for $10. Reasonable price, but I didn’t need it.
Lots of sales tomorrow. We’ll see how it goes.
nick
I mighta grabbed that Ruger…
But not at too high a price.
@OFD, it was $675 and there would be tax, but no FFL fee. It had a Leupold scope on it which was a bit of a sweetener, but the stock had some wear, and the rubber but pad was hard. Looking at gunbroker.com it was not a good price.
they were pricing it like this one:
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=498907834
but it was at least one grade lower due to wear on the stock.
more like this one:
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=500728246
but not a liberty edition.
nick
You did da right thing, kemosabe; I would have paid, maybe, half that in cold hard Murkan cash, and then the other half woulda got spent on bringing it up to snuff, probably.
Yeah, I mean, it’s only fiat currency, quickly inflating away any value it has, but still….
I’ve got other uses for the FRNs that I have left.
nick
By the sound or the aroma or both?
Sound. I tell her it’s safe because the aroma will kill them again.

I don’t see how it’s possible not to print unless wearing a jacket. A week or two I saw a video of a woman CCing under her bra. I couldn’t see how a gun can be concealed there unless you’re Dolly Parton… 🙂
I can carry a Shield (compact single stack 9mm) IWB right hip, without printing, if I’m wearing a t shirt and collared short sleeve shirt under it. The t shirt breaks up the line, and the collared shirt hangs freely.
When I carry IWB over my right kidney (4 oclock position) I only print when I bend over or reach up or forward. The key is the overshirt that hangs freely from your shoulder blades.
I found that I can carry IWB right hip with a patterned, dark golf shirt (knit polo) if it is cut so it hangs instead of clings. Your arm obscures most of the viewable area.
I usually don’t care too much if I print, but most of the time it is a constant awareness of body mechanics and what my shirt is doing.
I carried in front of my inlaws for a week, they never saw. Ditto for my extended family for a short week. Most are not looking.
nick
added, the key is a slim, short pistol, and a holster that positions it flat against your body, with a shirt that hangs freely.
+1
And the Shield fits the CC bill nicely. I’ll be experimenting a bit with a larger 9 shortly.
And more fun thoughts for this fine summuh night:
http://bastionofliberty.blogspot.com/2015/08/let-it-burn-after-conflagration-then.html
The bird in the video was wearing a fairly tight t-shirt.
Then the sheila was prolly more interested in showing off her assets than concealing the firearm. It can be done; I’ve seen slim women with the right config under a tee-shirt and no printing, and they can still get to it right quick.
Granted, you’re not gonna be able to put a Ruger Super Redhawk under there, but a Shield? Absolutely. Pack a spare mag or two and Bob’s yer uncle!
“Then the sheila was prolly more interested in showing off her assets…”
I’m all in favour of that… 🙂
I never had any problem with the Colt Combat Commander in a custom Milt Sparks pancake worn as Nick describes. The outside shirt hanging loose is more than enough to keep the pistol from printing. Of course, they don’t call the 1911 Old Slabsides for nothing, and I’m a pretty big guy, with a chest measurement 10 or 12 inches larger than my waist measurement.
Milt never put that holster into production, so I have one of six prototypes, but it looks a lot like this one:
