09:48 – Barbara and I just finished the first season of the law firm drama The Good Wife on Amazon streaming. The show seems to be competently done but not as extraordinary as most of the critics seem to think. The cast is excellent and the writing above average. However, not an episode passes without at least one and usually several of the lawyers doing things that in real life would get them disbarred if not imprisoned. I mean, they casually engage in major fraud, evidence tampering in murder cases, suborning juries, and so on. Still, it’s not a bad show and Julianne Margulies is very watchable.
Barbara is still cleaning and I’m trying to get everything done that needs to be done by tomorrow.

Looks like unemployment will be going up.
Why not raise the minimum wage to $50/hour?

And what makes you think this doesn’t happen in real life? We had a story here in BC recently of a lawyer getting disbarred for passing along police information to a gang. Of course, you can only disbar the ones that get caught. The smart ones are made into partners.
Now, I don’t mean to disparage the Law Profession. I’m sure many of them are scrupulously honest and hard working people. Dozens, even.
I proposed something like that a few years ago.
To adapt something I often say about police, it’s the dishonest 95% that make the rest look bad.
Just found out how tough a WD 4 TB external hard drive is. Dropped it from 4 foot height onto the concrete floor in my office where it bounced around a little bit. Works just fine and is very fast even though I am using USB2.

Speaking of the legal profession—one of the cases I did some work on:

One of the truly awful things alleged in this case, is that jailed prisoners were ordered released, but the paperwork was not signed or sent to the jail for months, while the prisoners—some acquitted as entirely innocent—sat rotting in jail.
