09:29 – We finished watching series 8 of Bones on Netflix streaming last night. Series 1 was, as I recall, pretty decent. It was a serious fictional forensics series, and they usually got the science pretty much right. It started to go downhill fast in series 2 and 3. IIRC, I downgraded my rating from three stars to one star around the beginning of series 3, and ever since I’ve been wishing I could award it negative stars. For the last several series, the writing has been horrible. Not just getting the science laughably wrong. The plots are horrible, as are the characterizations. The dialog is the worst part. The writers apparently pick words at random from a science dictionary and string them together into nonsensical phrases. The dialog will peg the bogosity meter of anyone who has even a minimal background in science, any kind of science.
I’d have stopped watching it in series 2 or 3, but Barbara likes to watch David Boreanaz. I understand. I’d watch something even worse if it featured Emily VanCamp. In fact, I have watched something worse that featured Emily, albeit only a two-hour movie.

I’d agree. I feel the same way about Joanna Garcia – I’d watch her read the phone book – and a few others. What percentage of your favorites are Canadian – Amber, Emily, …?
I’d watch Emma Thompson or Emily in just about anything. I really, really like them. I really, really like a lot of women, including those I frequently mention, such as Kim and Jasmine, Abby, Mary, and many others.
Amber is on a different plane entirely. I know it sounds stupid–especially since I’ve never met the woman or even exchanged email with her–but I love Amber, speaking literally. I’d help Amber bury a body. In fact, if she asked me to, I might kill it for her first.
I’d watch Sandra Bullock reading the phone book, especially if she was driving a bus in LA at the same time… š
Hey OFD, they found Champ Junior:

Like that article suggested, this fish could account for a lot of ‘sea serpent’ sightings through the centuries, along with those of giant squid, octupi, etc., but Champ and Nessie are probably plesiosaurs, which have long necks but substantial bodies and tails. Sooner or later one will turn up like this oarfish.
64 here today and gorgeous autumn foliage, mostly orange now.
Mrs. OFD is in Portlandia, Oregon this week and Memphis next week, followed by six more weeks out of eight all over the country.
OFD himself on the job search and house and yard list of stuff to do, but I got Fedora 19 working on a former Windows 8 machine, with 16GB RAM (the Mint install had installed but then would not boot, claiming disk failure, no disk present, and the HP Diagnostic advising me to get a new hard drive; however a Windows 7 Ultimate booted OK and now the Fedora.) Inside that I have Debian-based Whonix on a Virtual Box vm, running Tor. Working on Fedora firewall stuff now. CryptoHippie running along with Windows firewall, etc., on our main Windows 8 machine, and the third Windows 8 box is now destined for CentOS 6.4.
Was 88 F here today in the Land of Sugar. The weather liars are promising us 10 F cooler tomorrow, I’ll believe it when I see it.
I build all of my personal and business desktop PCs from name brand parts. No HP or Dell equipment here. I do buy Toshiba laptops but they are not as good as they used to be.
Got a surprise last night. The son has been driving our old 1997 Honda Civic coupe lately instead of his thirsty Ford pickup. The driver side window jumped the track so we tried to fix it last night. Reset the window in the track and then found out that the window would not go up the last inch. Turned out the power window gear had stripped. Anyway, googled the part and found it at Amazon for $53. With a new power window motor and PDF instructions. I was surprised that Amazon now carries car parts:
