Mon. Dec. 9, 2024 – a whole new world… [musical notes]

Cool and dreary again. Probably. Or not, since the national forecast has us clear for a couple of days. It never did stop drizzling or “heavy misting” yesterday. Everything outdoors was thoroughly wet by the end of the day. I’d like some dry out time, and some clear weather to get the rest of the decor up…

Because I didn’t get any of it up Sunday. I did get the toy room/library/junk pile mostly cleared out. Not completely done, and didn’t get a tree yesterday, but made a lot of progress. There was a ton of stuff in there that I’d forgotten about. Right now it all looks worse, because it is scattered around the house, and sorted into other piles, but I can get that cleaned up pretty quickly. I’ve had to go through some of it as I dug it out, and that slowed things down.

Dinner was pork loin roast. I used to package it in 2 pound servings, but now I generally like a three pound roast for the family. So I had to pull two from the freezer, one from 2022, and one from 2020. Both were still tasty if a little bit too lean. I was still buying at Costco back then, before I decided their pork was too lean to cook well. We’ve got 1 pound of leftover for lunches.

Today I’ve got a full plate, ‘natch. I should get to my secondary, the rent house, and possibly an auction pickup or two, as I’ll be on the right side of town. I like to combine trips if possible.

But the Rent house will take a couple of hours if I count the shopping time, and if it all goes perfectly. If it doesn’t, could be a big project. I might push it to Tuesday, and just get the stuff I think I’ll need today. I’ll basically do what I can to move stuff along, with an emphasis on getting the house ready for Christmas, and getting my stuff done for the Christmas potluck for my non-prepping hobby. I’ll try to combine stuff to save the time of driving across town.

Of course anything can happen and the universe tends towards maximum perversity…

Which is why we prep. All kinds of extraordinary things going on in the world and the country right now. The status quo could change in a heartbeat. Or sudden lack of one. Keep stacking, keep working.

Majority Of NATO Nations Show Sharp Uptick In Military Spending

    by Tyler Durden

    Monday, Dec 09, 2024 – 02:30 AM

Authored by Chris Summers via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours),

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has frequently lambasted other NATO countries for failing to fulfill their financial obligations toward the military alliance. But when he returns to the White House in January, he could find a lot less resistance.

European nations’ appetite for greater defense spending has been sharpened by the war in Ukraine and by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s continual saber-rattling.

  11. Ray Thompson says:

Well, that was interesting, annoying and irritating.

My home network shut down. Nothing worked. I could not get to the router; I could not get to the modem through the router. I connected directly to the modem after a couple of restarts and the modem was working. I put things back the way they were. No dice. I reset the router. No dice. I factory reset the router. No dice. This is not good.

I factory reset the router once more, removed all the connections except the desktop. I could get to the router, but not the outside world or the modem through the router. I could get out if the computer was connected to the regular ports, but not if the computer was connected to the normal 2.5 GHz port. Not good. I changed the network cable between the router and the modem. No change.

I factory reset the router again and started poking around. I found this little setting under “Dual Wan” where the primary port is established. Somehow this setting is now the 2.5 GHz port instead of the 1 GHz port. I changed it to where it should be, the 1 GHz port, which is labeled as the WAN port on the router, and I could connect to the outside world.

Some DUMB*$$ programmer decided that it was a good thing to change the default WAN port to the 2.5 GHz port. That got set during the last firmware update. Of course this was done without informing anyone. GGGRRRRR.

I now have to redo all my parameters (why keep a file of the settings?) and rebuild the entire mesh network. The mesh network is easy, except the two nodes have to be removed from their location and taken close to the main router.

At this point enough people in NYC have finally had enough encounters on the bus, or subway (or even the sidewalks) with the violent criminal class that common sense is taking hold.

BREAKING: Ex-Ivy League Student Identified as Person of Interest in Fatal Shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson

by Jim Hᴏft Dec. 9, 2024 12:32 pm

    Source: NYPD via Daily Mail

Authorities have identified Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old former Ivy League student, as a person of interest in the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

Mangione, who was valedictorian of his high school class and had plans to study artificial intelligence at the University of Pennsylvania, was apprehended at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, following a nationwide manhunt, New York Post first reported.

Another Dumbocrat precident. The “forever” pardon. tRump should just announce everyone of his cabinet picks gets a pardon for anything Federal for their time in office back to their birth (include anybody from his first term). Why not. The “Bad Son” gets an 11-year pardon for “anything” Federal that comes up? Ridiculous, but tRump now has the precident. Or, work on how pardoning someone for future crimes is un-Constitutional. I would rather have that than the “forever” pardon.

“In one of his parting gifts to the United States and the world, President Joe Biden agreed to advance a new United Nations treaty that weaponizes international criminal law against opposition to transgender policy. Under its provisions, politicians who deliberately “misgender” someone or advocate for female-only private spaces would be guilty of “gender-based persecution,” a crime against humanity. In November, the General Assembly agreed to a timeline for finalizing the treaty by 2029.”

“The Vatican has been warning against this treaty for more than four years because it would enshrine an open definition of gender in international criminal law, effectively replacing the sound definition of gender currently in the Rome Statute.”

The US Senate will never consent to this treaty.

Jake Tapper and CNN Lose Major Motions in Defamation Case by Navy Veteran

Judge Roberts previously found that “Young sufficiently proffered evidence of actual malice, express malice, and a level of conduct outrageous enough to open the door for him to seek punitive damages.”

“the Court finds that there is an issue of material fact as to whether Defendant published a full and fair retraction as required by §770.02 for the televised segment and no retraction for the social media and online article postings, which could be additional evidence of actual malice.”

It is also worth noting that Young was found to be a private individual and not a “public figure.”

The court also ruled that Young would be allowed to keep his economic damages expert witness, Richard Bolko, a ruling that, in conjunction with the punitive damages matter, could spell real trouble for CNN.

Treaty with U.S. grants extraterritoriality status. U.S. needs to revoke. Call it “egregious misuse” and give them thirty days. Zero the U.S. contribution and suggest to our allies that their contributions are propping up a sham organization dedicated more to destruction of Western civilization than to construction of a world peace.

Issue warrants for the arrest of all judges at the International Court of Anti-Semitism, and allow Netanyahu and others who have been targeted to file for damages and attach liens to U.N. property.

Send a team of attorneys to Haiti and other countries where the U.N. “peacekeepers” have committed crimes and help them file suit in Federal Court for New York with similar liens.

Massive Cover-up Launched by U.K. Met Office to Hide its 103 Non-Existent Temperature Measuring Stations

Sanders discovered from a freedom of information request that 103 of the 302 sites marked on the climate averages listing – over a third of the total – no longer existed. Subsequently, Sanders sought further information about the methodology used to supply data for both Folkestone and Dover. In reply, the Met Office said it was unable to supply details of the observing sites requested “as this is not recorded information”. It did however disclose that for non-existent stations “we use regression analysis to create a model of the relationship between each station and others in the network”. This generates an estimate for each month when the station is not operating. Each “estimate” is said to be based on data from six other stations, chosen because they are “well correlated” with the target station.

In the case of Dover, the nearest ‘station’ is seven miles away at non-existent Folkestone followed by Manston which is 15 miles distant.

…the promotion of temperatures, accurate to one hundredth of a degree centigrade, obtained from a nationwide network where nearly eight out of 10 stations are so poorly sited they have internationally-recognised ‘uncertainties’ as high as 5°C.
