Tues. Nov. 12, 2024 – another volunteer day, and some auction stuff

By on November 12th, 2024 in culture, decline and fall, march to war, personal

Cool and damp, warming to hot and damp. It will probably be damp… for all that it started out sopping wet, yesterday ended very nice. It was low 70s and comfortable at dusk. I enjoy driving with the windows down when I can. It would be nice to get a little more Fall before Winter arrives.

Did some household stuff, some auction stuff, picked up one kid, then went to the dress rehearsal for the other kid’s school musical. Spent a couple hours doing audio tweaks and teaching the mixer board kid how to listen and adjust EQ. Hit the HEB for some “show buddy” treats that D2 needed to pick up. They had choice beef chuck roast on sale cheap, so I bought a couple. Ground chuck was only $3.75/pound, so I got some of that too. Even the beef jerky I eat was $1 off with in store coupon…so it was a decent trip despite being unplanned and out of order.

Today I’m headed into school to set up a monitor speaker for the Music Director, so she won’t demand changes to my front of house mix. Then I’ll do some auction stuff, and finally go back to second dress rehearsal, so that I can show the Musical Director how to adjust her monitor, and so I can keep working with the kid mixing the show. There is an alternate casting of the 4 leads and this is their rehearsal. First time to set mics for them. And the kid needs encouragement to stick to his guns and keep the volume levels below painful, even when a Musical Director wants to mess up the whole show so she can hear better…

Just when I think I’m out, they pull me back in… /end Pachino voice

It’s not a prep, but I get to use skills and knowledge and gear that I have had in storage for a long time. And it’s meatspace, engaging with my community.

Stacking is easier and takes less time.

My bad. I spent most of yesterday evening absorbing as much of this lecture and the immediate predecessor as I could handle. I may get to do something very cool today.

    I approve of this.

    Holy cr*p!

DeSantis just spent a bunch of political capital in 2022 to protect Little Marco’s seat and ensure the reelection margins at the top of the Florida ballot were 60-40. Arguably, this included crushing Disney.

It is dangerous heading into 2024 in Florida with the Governor’s Mansion up and located after the US Senate seat under Florida election rules.

As for Rubio, he’s too much on the “hawk” side about the Russians and Iranians IMHO. I’m wondering if Trump will do what I’ve suspected he would in a second term and make shutting down the embargo against Cuba a priority.

Trump is the one guy who could sell that in Little Havana among the surviving expats.

And Little Marco has the story to be credible on lifting the embargo as well.

    This might be the moment.

It might be easiest to simply jail everyone in the Biden/Harris administration pending determination of their sentence.

Ah, the French (Napoleonic) way of doing things.  It is not always a bad method.

This is what the DOJ did to the J6’rs. They were thrown in jail for a long time awaiting trials.

On a better note, the PLTs, LSM, news rags, and Dumbos are committed to a peaceful tRump administration.

Just kidding! It is going to be a four year battle. Even with the House and Senate majorities it will be tough. There are too many RINOs to guarantee passage of laws. I doubt tRump can close the border in four years without the military. He can get taxes cut, SCOTUS and Fed judges, and goobermint reduction. It is time to give  that “war on drugs” to US Special Forces. Cartels will cease to exist.

“This is how Democrats ended up running a dingbat who’d cheered on the BLM riots, enthusiastically released violent criminals from prison, insisted on taxpayer-funded sex change operations for prisoners and illegal aliens, compared ICE agents to the Ku Klux Klan, completely believed Jussie Smollett’s hoax hate crime, supported defunding the police and said she wanted to decriminalize illegal immigration.”

“Indeed, Harris was the lead player in the administration’s decision to defy federal law and fling open the border, sending millions of foreign criminals and mental patients to every corner of America.”

As usual, Ann nails it.  Kamala is a dingbat loon for sure who ignores the laws of the USA.

  6. drwilliams says:

Do not let her be portrayed as an outlier—Harris is a dingbat loon in a party of dingbat loons that has spent years crumbling their political DNA with philosophies that are the equivalent of LSD. This is exactly what the communists have planned for decades, and it is only through the strength and persistence of Donald Trump that our nation pulled back from the brink.

Defeat the PLT’s and clean out the RINO infection.

“Pirates: Book 6, the New Frontiers Series” by Jack L. Knapp
       https://www.amazon.com/Pirates-Book-6-New-Frontiers/dp/1092704264?tag=ttgnet-20/

Book number six of a eight book science fiction space opera series. I reread the well printed and well bound POD (print on demand) trade paperback self published by the author in 2019. I have all eight books in the series and am rereading them now with the number seven and eight books that I just bought from Big River.

Wow, great story with lots of character development and action. An older engineer buys a bunch of Nikola Tesla’s journals in an old chest and spots a design for an “electric turbine” that was never built. He builds a working version of the electric impeller (a device that converts electricity into motion) after many restarts and has an anti-gravity device. The rest of the story concerns project funding and building various containers for the electric impeller and various peoples trying to steal the design. And aliens. Lots of space aliens.

This book is specifically about the prospectors looking for metal bearing asteroids in the asteroid belt near to Mars. The near asteroid belt is almost played out and the prospector scoots do not have enough fuel and supplies to move out into the asteroid belt proper. And there is someone taking the space freighters, killing the crews, and selling their processed metal cargoes on good old Terra. And the Flickers and Felis are having their own problems, especially the outcast Flicker women due to the extremely low numbers of Flicker men.

The writing of the story is a little bit rough, a little more editing would have been good. But for me, the story is always the most important thing. This is my second read so that makes it a five star book for me.

BTW, this is not the first time that a story has been written similar to this. Several stories have “magical” engines for space drives. A very similar book is John Varley’s most excellent “Red Thunder” which uses the squeezer drive.
       https://www.amazon.com/Red-Thunder-Lightning-Novel/dp/0441011624?tag=ttgnet-20/

The reason why I like these stories so much is that it is not just the new drive device, it is also the design and work to build the container around the new device. And the resulting societal changes from the revolutionary technological changes.

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Amazon rating: 4.4 out of 5 stars (114 reviews)

Tom Homan, President-elect Donald Trump’s new border czar, has a message for Democrat governors opposed to mass deportations.

“If they’re not willing to help, then get the hell out of the way because [Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)] is going to do their job,”

Homan explained there will not be “massive raids,” but rather a “targeted enforcement operation” that first tackles criminal aliens.

Still, that doesn’t mean the others shouldn’t be concerned.

“If you’re in a country illegally, you’ve got a problem,” he said.

    https://townhall.com/tipsheet/leahbarkoukis/2024/11/12/tom-homan-message-to-dem-governors-vowing-not-to-cooperate-with-mass-deportation-plan-n2647619

The Trump team has no doubt been studying this for a long time. One thing I hope they have done is pulled every law-enforcement grant of money and equipment to blue state organizations to see if there are any consequences they can invoke for non-cooperation.

And as far as the next tranche of illegal aliens, it should be suggested that anyone voluntarily self-deporting can apply for beat-the-screen-door assistance with a coach plane ticket to any other country that will take them. The alternative being a potential period of incarceration before deportation which might be to any convenient country, and did you know that Cuba is nice this time of year and needs volunteers for the sugar cane harvest?

Hovde “lost” in Wisconsin after a 3AM ballot drop from Milwaukee with impossible numbers. Trump needs to demand full records retention, a swift investigation, and prosecutions as warranted. He also needs to call Hovde and offer monetary support.

We need a federal law specifying that precincts showing vote totals significantly above the number of registered voters must survive a forensic audit or the results will be removed from any tallys affecting federal elections.

Yeah, the problem is: here’s a sealed box of ballots, which have properly been separated from the personally identifying information of who cast them. So: how do you prove that the ballots are improper?

A lot of these shenanigans could be eliminated by requiring full accounting of all ballots with 24 hours of the election. Allowing late “discoveries” just invites creative fraud.
