Mon. Oct. 14, 2024 – to the victor goes the spoils day…

Cool to start, warming later. Another clear day. It’s pretty hot in the sun, despite the thermometer saying mid to high 70s. It’s nice with the breeze and in the shade.

Didn’t get as much done as I’d hoped. Dang sprinklers ate more of my time. If I run an aux pump on the input side of the jet pump, I can get the big pump to run the sprinklers. I’ll run them again today. It’s probably too little too late, but it can’t hurt to put some water on the crunchy grass.

I’ll do what I can to continue closing up walls in the dockhouse. And I will probably pull in the speaker wires. I put the pull lines in the conduit yesterday. I need W or one of the kids to feed the wire while I pull though, which is why I didn’t just do it yesterday.

It’s a big list, and it ain’t getting shorter…

Meanwhile, things continue to deteriorate, and get weirder. Stack what you can, because time seems to be getting short.

    And why not?

Nothing changes, it’s some IRA’s and Social Security with minor amount changes, which they already know.

The house is paid off and I haven’t itemized since health issues some years ago.

Why are the feds even bothering me?

Same here. I am rarely able to itemize. I pay my property taxes on alternate so I have double payments every other year. The last time that worked was several years ago years ago but I keep trying. My property taxes for the county and city is less than $2K. The last time I was able to itemize was in 2018 when I bought the trailer. The sales tax put me over the edge.

The feds get all the information. I should be able to send in a return with a check box that says “Let the IRS process”. Unfortunately that would take three years or more as that is how long it takes the IRS to claim I made a mistake.

I would like a flat 10% consumption tax. You buy, you pay tax. Only exception is food, medical and utilities. No more yearly filing, no more tax lawyers, no more tax accountants. No tax on savings and investments.

Really, our military doesn’t have the SIGINT assets to analyze these drones. Even if they are on an autonomous mission, they’ll be talking to each other. How about launching a military drone and follow them. Use a Predator and light them up at end-of-mission.

And, Langley, really? For 17 days. If the DOD doesn’t have the owner’s by the short-hairs, heads should roll.

I killed the power and did my normal Monday hard boot, my office PC booted right up.  So now I am rerunning the LAN backup as it did not finish.

    Jam the GPS.

I’ve driven through areas where the military jammed the satellite signals on a regular basis.

In WA State, it was I-5 near JB Lewis-McChord.

Here in Texas, I’ve encountered jamming north of the LBJ Ranch, under the approach to the runway on the property for the mini jet he flew from Bergstrom if they weren’t staying in the penthouse of Lady Bird’s TV station.

“An argument ensued, shots rang out, and the rapist was dead.”

“The cops arrested the dad for first degree murder, and the dad is now out on bond. The cops said that there was no reason to shoot the man, because they were on the case.”

Yup, not murder.  Sounds like the father of the raped girl took out a predator that the cops / DA refused to keep in jail.

Also sounds like the 14 year old girl was very enthralled with the predator.

I have seven double wide windows, one single wide, and the kitchen window.   I don’t want window sills, just trim out like a door.   I’d rather give him the work, you know?

Not a word.  I’m done.  I think I know what to do.  I suck at miter joints but hey, caulk is a thing.

I’ll southern engineer this on my own.  It looks sort of simple.  Mostly finding the correct size of trim wood at Hoover’s.   Frame the window with half inch thick trim.  Then the door jamb trim attaches to that.  I will practice with a bedroom window…. hang some drapes and hide a lot of sins if it looks like carp.  🙂

Media Rushes to Downplay Explosive Evidence of Kamala Harris’ Plagiarism

The New York Times knows it’s a big deal as well, which is why it published an 1100-word piece on Monday trying to explain away Harris’ plagiarism and portray the whole matter as an unfortunate example of just how low the foes of the sainted Harris will go. In the Times’ version, “conservative [a four-alarm word for the Times and its hapless readers] activist Christopher Rufo” is making a mountain out of a molehill. He “had taken relatively minor citation mistakes in a large amount of text and tried to ‘make a big deal of it.’”

That was the assessment of one Jonathan Bailey, whom the Times identifies as “a plagiarism consultant,” without explaining what exactly a “plagiarism consultant” is or how one attains such a lofty position. Bailey, the Times informs us magisterially, “said on Monday that his initial reaction to Mr. Rufo’s claims was that the errors were not serious, given the size of the document.”

    https://pjmedia.com/robert-spencer/2024/10/14/media-rushes-to-downplay-explosive-evidence-of-kamala-harris-plagiarism-n4933333

So the NYT is ok if I rip off a large chunk of their copyrighted material and pass it off as my own, as long as it’s not too big a chunk, or if it’s surrounded by a large amount of other shiite?

How about if another newspaper copies the first page portion of a NYT headline article nearly word for word, but has different material when the article continues on inside pages?

The next Trump administration shouldn’t give the NYT a pass to the rest room, much less a press pass.

A run time density must be used for the conversion but it was not available. My software happily let him specify those commands and then croaked at the flowrate conversion.

The paperwork requirements and tax return for three businesses is immense.

Not only in the US. Accounting requirements are also crazy in the UK, in Switzerland and in Germany – all the countries I’ve lived in. Aside from the taxes themselves, it’s all about making individuals and businesses *prove* their own honesty. It is so easy for faceless bureaucrats to impose additional requirements to make their jobs easier, without thinking about the fact that those requirements impact millions of other people.

Then there are all the indirect impacts. All financial entities have to monitor your transactions and report them to the government. They also report your earnings, your balances, and all other details. That’s a huge costs, inevitably paid by the end customer.

Simplified tax systems. No reporting requirements. No requirement to prove your own honesty. If the government thinks you’re cheating, it’s on the government to prove it. With a simplified tax system, that would not be so difficult. The European VAT systems wouldn’t be a bad start, although again, you need to eliminate the weird exceptions and special rules.

I came in and my office PC has the infamous “Press any key to boot from drive…”

Had something similar on the laptop in our guest apartment. Windows started to boot, but never finished. I actually just wanted to put Linux on it, but I could not get it to boot from USB. No idea why – all the BIOS settings were right, but it just ignored the bootable stick. But it offered to re-install Windows (apparently, Windows saves a copy of the original installation media?). So I suffered through that, including Cortana suddenly wanting to talk me through the process. Ick.

Initially, I forgot to deny internet access, so that I could install with a local account. No way back, so I had to restart the installation from zero. Then screwing down the privacy settings. Then creating a guest account with no privileges. Then replacing Edge with Firefox – but (of course) anything Windows needs a browser for still uses Edge.

I really would have preferred Linux.

orbiting the satellites closer to Earth

I wonder about that. Closer also requires a higher orbital speed, with more hand-offs between satellites. Closer also gives more drag, which means the satellites have shorter lifetimes, since they have to keep adjusting their orbits.

I did read that SpaceX has next-generation satellites in the works that are much larger and more capable. The satellites apparently need to be launched from Starship, and some people are speculating that SpaceX may have a trial deployment with the next Starship launch.

What’s up, with the pedophile accusations against Walz? I’ve seen various pics and such, but none of them are actually incriminating. Him sharing earbuds with a teenage girl.
