Mon. July 22, 2024 – pack is back together and I can relax a notch

Hot and humid, chance of rain. Yesterday was the same, but it never rained on me. Even though it was 90F+ it was ok in the shade with a breeze.

So that’s where I spent my afternoon and evening, in the shade of the overgrown trees and bushes in the back yard. I pruned. I cut. I stacked. I chainsawed… and it looks better. More importantly, the branches around the power, data, and telcom lines have been cut back.

That gave me access to the broken fence, and allowed me to do some half @ssed repairs. I decided to do something, since I had the stuff, and the neighbor (who owns the fence) hadn’t done anything. Took an hour and wasn’t hard. I used a metal post support thing driven into the ground at the base of two posts, and put some long fence pickets along the top rail and across the posts so as to reinforce and force the panels to be straight… It worked pretty well. If I could find them, I’d put in another post support or two. Eventually I’ll find them. Or the neighbor will decide to fix the fence. It’s far from perfect, but it will do for now, and it was cheap.

In order to do that work, I had to fix my string trimmer and pole saw. I put a new bump head on the string trimmer. And I think it was low oil in both power units that kept them from running. Changing the oil in the dirty one, and topping up the oil in the other got them both running. 2 stroke engines are easier to run, although the 4 strokes are supposed to be better. 4 strokes need the oil and regular gas. 2 strokes need oil IN the gas. I’d like to be standardized but I bought what was cheap in the auctions. Small gas tools are like PCs in that you need n+1 to keep n running…

I ended up cutting the grass in the back yard with the string trimmer again. Too long between mows, and I can’t get the mower through it. I pulled up the collard plants, and weeded the herb garden too.

All in all, a pretty productive afternoon and evening.

Today I’m doing indoor stuff in the morning, mostly auction, but also some hobby website work. I will continue with the office cleanup project as well. I’ve got jury duty Tuesday so I have to get some stuff done today.

Stay busy, work to improve your situation, and stack. The world is more unsettled today than it was a few days ago, and that trend is likely to continue.

The Camel will be the candidate.

That’s the obvious choice, but: apparently the DNC has some rule that says the candidate with the second largest number of votes should assume the mantle. She wasn’t a candidate, so they would have to twist the rules into a pretzel.

Right now, the rule is that there are no rules.

Someone other than Kamala or Big Mike at the top of the ticket will require a lot of Walkin’ ‘Round money from the donors.

  2. Ray Thompson says:

they would have to twist the rules into a pretzel

DNC with rules? They change the rules, bend the rules, ignore the rules, to do whatever they want. That pattern follows the candidates into office. Spongey was especially egregious in his attempts to bypass rules and laws. The student loan fiasco being the biggest example.

I believe that the Camel (let’s call her the “Humper” in support of her methods of rising to prominence with apologies to real Camels) is frantically doing what she can to gather enough votes and finding ways to bypass rules.

The Humper has no real qualifications for the office. Supporters claim she was tough on crime in California. Uh, no she wasn’t. Her time in the VP slot she produced nothing or did anything useful. The same could be said about Spongey but at least he attended meetings.

I despise Trump as he is an egotistical liar. He was a ruthless business person and maybe that is what is needed in the White House. I am just concerned he will go off half-cocked and do something stupid when dealing with other countries.

The Humper would never get my vote, even if she was the only person on the ballot like they do in Russia. I would write in my dog before I would vote for the Humper.

I do suspect that the Humper will be the democratic candidate. I also think she will pick a female running mate, some minority, to gather in the minority vote. Qualifications are secondary to finding someone to attract voters.

I also think that the Humper will lose the election following in the footsteps laid down by the Hilliary. Spitting nails and kicking chairs after the votes are counted.

  3. Denis says:

I suspect the Democrats have decided that this election cannot easily be won, even if they cheat, since the failed assassination attempt boosted Trump’s popularity enormously, and since his supporters and the USSC will be more vigilant and active against fraud this time around.

They won’t want to burn out M. Obama for 2028 as a losing candidate in 2024, and they don’t much mind what happens to Harris, and she might just win, if enough undecided low-information female voters support her. The horse might learn to sing.

As always, my predictions are worth what you paid for them…

    I get this, sort of.

The problem is, except for the “ruthless business person”,  I think he at least tried to fulfill some of his promises.  And I distinctly remember being explicitly lied to by these egotists:

Both Bushes.  Both Clintons.  Tip O’Neill.  Jimmy Carter.  Al Gore.  Teddy Kennedy.  Barack Obama.  Every Speaker of the House except Newt Gingrich, and I may have just missed his lies.  But they all had a veneer of “genteel” over their ruthless lying.

And you’re worried about his dealing with other countries, when his first term was the longest peace we had since, well, forever?  Have you considered that he had more experience as a negotiator going into the job than anyone since Eisenhower?

  6. Ray Thompson says:

Yes, I have. But lately Trump seems to have changed. A little more abrasive.

And I distinctly remember being explicitly lied to by these egotists:

I am of the opinion that all politicians stretch the truth or downright lie.

I really don’t think Spongey has, or had, Covid. I think it was an excuse to isolate him and get him out of the public scrutiny for a few days. The White House spin machine fabricating in-truths.

Nothing I can do about the Dems candidate, so I’m just going to wait and see.    Won’t change my vote, nor how I organize my life.   It’s fun, for certain values of fun, to speculate, but it’s a lot of distraction, and wasted energy and attention.   Still gonna watch as the choice will tell us a lot about the long term wants and desires of the puppet masters….

    ——-

I woke up thinking about how Americans are/were often seen as ungovernable, too independent, tenacious, and our myths were too powerful – the self made man, the lone hero, the cowboy, American Exceptionalism, the Protestant work ethic.   So what to do if your plan is to rule the world?    You have to attack those strengths.

Attack the individual.  Attack the American Dream.   Attack the myths.   Dilute the culture.  Neuter the rugged male.

I recall reading a history of airbags.

The regulators originally assumed that the rugged individualist Americans would refuse to wear the mandated seatbelts, and the airbags were a backup system that they could force manufacturers to install by fiat.

To the regulatory system’s astonishment Americans agreed to wear seatbelts, and in reality the airbags weren’t needed to achieve the original goals. So they moved the goal posts.  Because bureaucracies never surrender power and/or authority.

Something is wonky about the whole thing. A letter instead of in person? He did not even appear to endorse the Humper. Covid? I am suspicious. I think something happened to Spongey that is medical related. The propaganda machine at the White House is covering up something. I doubt Spongey died as the Humper would be all over that. A minor stroke perhaps.

“There’s a major shroud of mystery and unanswered questions hanging over the Trump assassination attempt, with new bizarre details coming out daily. The latest bombshell involves a mysterious ATF agent who appears to have secretly gotten involved in the case but has suddenly gone dark. Senator Ron Johnson is all over this new twist. If his findings hold water, they could blow the lid off the entire plot to kill President Trump. In short, according to Senator Johnson and his inside sources, a sniper team was the first on the roof, taking pictures of the scene and the dead shooter. Shockingly, they were approached by a man in a suit who they thought was from the Secret Service and were instructed to text those photos to a phone number that turned out to belong to an ATF agent. Now, attempts to contact this mysterious agent have failed because he’s gone completely dark.”

The Trump assassination attempt is either a seriously horrible conspiracy or, a total new level of incompetence for the US Secret Service.  Or, both.

I would not put it past the scum in the White House that they are working on an AI presentation of Spongey, thus the delay in the appearance. I don’t trust the current White House staff as they are sinister, lying, cheating, thieving scum and will do whatever to protect their jobs.

Of course, doing so would signal the end of the democratic party so my first sentence is just me being a fool. The second sentence is true. No such thing could happen without a lot of people knowing and would eventually get out.

In reality I think Spongey had a minor heart attack, a minor stroke, or some other such affliction. The White House is taking great precautions to hide such a condition. Why I don’t know. The Humper would invoke the 25th, and assume the role. That is not a permanent change as the 25th does not mention removing the president from the office, only making the holder of the office temporarily unable to function in the role. There is a lot of language about acting president, not actually becoming president. Spongey would have to resign or die for the Humper to become the president.

Somewhere in all of this I believe Jill Biden is maneuvering to stay in the White House and keep receiving all the perks of being the 1st lady until the end of Spongey’s term. She likes traveling on AF1 and having people at her call on a moment’s notice.

Perhaps that is why Spongey’s real issues are being hidden. For some reason perhaps the democratic coverup machine really does not want the Humper to get in the office just yet. Something is being carefully controlled while the people are not being fully informed of what is happening. If this is a big coverup that would put Trumpster in the driver’s seat of a single seat vehicle.

  27. Ray Thompson says:

I am wondering if Bidden had another stroke and they are trying to get him to wake up out of a coma.

I have thought the same thing. If he is in a coma, the 25th should have been invoked immediately. It is not permanent removal from office and Spongey could assume the presidential role when he recovers. All provided in the 25th.

If Spongey is truly in a coma, (induced or natural) not informing the senate, congress, judicial, and the American people would be a major issue, perhaps even a crime. It would finish any trust in the Democratic and destroy any legitimacy of the Democrats in power.

I disagree.  Kabuki is formal, highly stylized, entertaining, and does not kill the audience.

What we got was poorly researched, full of bad science, 100% graft, killed the economy, ruined the budget, caused huge impacts in lifestyle, business, health, education, loneliness, and mental health.   Not to mention the “vaccine” that is the probable cause of those excess deaths.   Off the top of my head.

What the TSA does at airports is more like kabuki.  Although it’s pretty expensive and disruptive, it’s not generally fatal and doesn’t encourage bad outcomes.  Doesn’t discourage them, either, of course.

The most positive outcome of the public health response is how many people have their eyes opened about vaccines in general (some are useful, all have risks) and healthcare in general.  Which is that outside of acute care and pathology, doctors don’t know shirt from shinola.

Nope, no private key.  I cannot convert the .cer file into a .pfx file so I have to have the USB token loaded and SafeNet running. It is a pain in the buttocks.

Install enough Cygwin to run OpenSSL and try the following with a backup copy of your *.cer file:

openssl x509 -in cerfile.cer -noout -text

You may have a PEM-encoded cert file. If that doesn’t work

openssl x509 -inform pem -in cerfile.cer -noout -text

I forget a lot of the openssl command line arguments, but it should be possible to extract the private key from the *.cer file using the utility. I think an argument has to be passed to tell the tool to prompt for and use a password.
