Hot and humid in the swamp, and further north too. Gorgeous sunny day though.
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there. It’s a tough job, but one with plenty of rewards.

Yesterday I had my hobby meeting. Small crowd because the date shifted a week. And a lot of Houston area peeps are still doing cleanup. Nice to see the guys though.
Did a pickup on my way to the BOL. Got a nice surveillance camera, and some pex. All will be put to use.
Mowed the lawn when I got here. It’s a lot easier and quicker if you can keep up with it.

Today was supposed to start with my favorite waffles, but someone forgot eggs. Which means I can’t have an egg either… Or bacon. Grrr.
But there will be coffee shortly. And that is a small joy.
Eventually the brats will awaken, and grace me with their presence, and presents…
It’s a good life.

….and Nick is back!
(Which means that me getting to be the first comment of the day is an unusual occurrence. I usually don’t get here until after 9am PDT.)
Congratulations on the brain fart, Nick.
Well, we celebrated Father’s Day with a luncheon yesterday in Costa Mesa: https://www.ribcompany.com/newport-menu
.
Plus, the Juneteenth holiday probably has many folks busy with travel and celebration plans.
The Federal Memorial Day legislation was meant to consolidate about six weeks of commemorations across The South into one date which would ease budget planning at all levels of government.
That lasted about 50 years.
Mr. Nick’s late posting of today’s comment has hurt my feels. Therefore, he owes me $1million. Anybody that downvotes this post also owes me $1million. I live in commie leaning San Antonio, so I’ll win in court when I sue you.
See how that works.
Happy Father’s Day to you fathers.
Go on, try to collect. 🙂
San Antonio isn’t part of the Federal Court district based in Austin?
Feels come first in the Austin jury pool for the courts at all levels.
Dunno if this made the national wires following up on the pardon issued by the Governor.

Good luck tracking down who downvotes. Even I can’t do that. (As far as you know…)
MrAtoz has the town wrong. In all the C & W songs that I listen to, it is San Antone!
Amarillo by mornin’
Up from San Antone
Everything that I got
Is just what I’ve got on
When that Sun is high
In that Texas sky
I’ll be buckin’ at the county fair
Amarillo by mornin’
Amarillo I’ll be there
They took my saddle in Houston
Broke my leg in Santa Fe
Lost my wife and a girlfriend
Somewhere along the way
Watching the Astros with my Dad in Port Lavaca. Happy Fathers Day !
85 is oldest? Paul Harvey used to say people from the cold northern states live longer than people from the warm southern states. My aunt from Minnesota made it to 100, and she was not the oldest in her church in southern California. Must be the water.
There used to be a 105 year old lady but she passed a couple of years ago. The church only has 75 members so that is a small group to sample.
I was wrong. Dad is the oldest guy at 85 at their church. But there was a 93 year old lady this morning so mom is the 3rd oldest at church. Moms friend is older than I thought, 84.
“I was wrong. Dad is the oldest guy at 85 at their church. But there was a 93 year old lady this morning so mom is the 3rd oldest at church. Moms friend is older than I thought, 84.”
May they keep trying for a good long time.
My silly wISP has new 10 GB fiber. The old router couldn’t handle it and started crashing a couple of times a day. Or maybe, old equals failing.
So he swapped in a new router. Their spare. And as he said your IP address will change, no need to re-boot anything.
It did change. The IP address but nothing worked. Oh…… “Okay, now I have my routes right, sorry, forgot I have to fix the routes in EVERY router, not just the gateway, @everyone things should just start working now”.
I can relate.
I called the nursing home where Mom was. Yes, they do take clothes for the inmates. I’ll haul a couple of bags of t-shirts and button-up shirts over there my next trip to town.
Along with a few pair of size 10.5 sneakers. One pair is in the box. The other three pair are maybe at most six months old with just a weekly trip to the grocery store.
Better than a dumpster.
When Mom moved there it was a big deal to tag her clothes with her name. Three months later she was wearing whatever.
Lynn, you are enjoying your parents while you can, and they are enjoying you. Good for all. May this continue.

Ten inches of rain, woof !

I enjoy being with my parents. I have been hanging with them for over 60 years.
They will be celebrating 65 years of marriage next month. I find that amazing even though I have been a part of the journey.
My Dad’s two year younger brother is in hospice in a semi coma. I count myself fortunate that I got to spend a weekend with my Dad, yelling at the Astros for three games. We had a good time.
I introduced Mom to “Anjela Johnson” standup comic and the movie “The Judge”. She liked the movie.
Amen to that. Happy Fathers’ Day in heaven, Dada. Please tell Mama I love her.
Just finished family game night. I got to pick so we played “Ticket to Ride.” It’s a fun game that mixed ages can play well, with a mix of strategy, decision making, and luck. Wife beat me by less than 10 points as I got stuck with too few trains to complete my last route so I had to eat 16 points…
Headed down to the dock for a tiny little fire. Dunno if I’ll spin the dial on the radio or read on the kindle. I don’t usually read, although I did listen to audio books for one trip. Reading is internal and closes in, while I prefer to focus outward while I’m out in the night…

>> Wife canceled the XM for her car, and my Ranger. They’ve been sending “sign back up and save” letters, but the deal isn’t that good.
I miss it in the ranger. I HATE commercials. I’ve been listening to the classic rock station and they are running AARP ads, FFS.
Whose Ranger? 😉
@nick, seriously though, if I enjoyed it and drove as much as you seem to drive on a daily basis, plus back and forth to your BOL, I wouldn’t hesitate for a minute to keep an XM subscription. My W does most of the driving and she enjoys XM and you know, HWHL. Did they let the cancelation go through without any pushback? Last time I renewed, some veiled threats got it down to a reasonable rate. Of course, it was much better pre-merger, where you could ping/pong between Sirius and XM really cheaply. Any chance you can take it as a business expense (needing to be on top of traffic and weather?
>> Better than a dumpster.
Unfortunately, that’s where a lot of donated clothes wind up. The best stuff goes on the thrift store racks, the in-between stuff winds up as rags and the bottom of the barrel carp winds up in the dumpster. Fed by our ‘throw-away’ economy.
Ask @nick when was the last time he bought an article of clothes at retail price. At least for himself…not gonna ask about the two teens in the house.
Hey @Greg, who’s turn to feed the monkey?

If you’re looking for radio drama check out the Internet Archive. They have many of the old radio dramas. In particular “Suspense” as well as “Nightfall” and “Vanishing Point”. There’s comedy as well such as “Burns & Allen”. It’s worth taking a look at them.
You should compare us to the Japanese. Of course, they have the excuse that their living quarters are small, with very little storage space, but I suspect their behavior goes deeper.
@alan, you are right. Other than socks and underwear, I can’t think of the last clothing I bought at retail. Maybe some high tech shirts at Academy Sports, but it would have been their house brand, and only if it was on sale.
I buy most of the kids’ clothes at Goodwill or one of the thrifts too. So many people buy clothes they never wear, that then end up in a thrift store, that there are plenty of like new things to choose from. Vintage T shirts are very “hip” right now for the kids too. Sarah Hoyt has pointed out that it takes an incredibly wealthy society to have thrift stores where people have just donated or thrown out clothing or other goods.
Even my wife benefits, although it’s mostly outerwear that I buy for her, she buys her own daily and business wear.

Radio was not great tonight. There was some activity on 20 M but signals were not great. Sounded like mostly Aussies. It’s Sunday night so most of the broadcasters are airing religious programming not music or general interest.
I did hear at least one Cuban station, and they haven’t been coming in recently, so that was a nice surprise.

Nice night to be out on the dock, mid 70s with a very light breeze, and mostly clear sky. The moon was bright but low in the sky.
Past time for bed.
