Cool, damp or even wet, and windy today. We did get a bit of rain late in the day yesterday, but it really depended on where you were in town. I got some at the secondary, but not at home.
I was still sore, and stiff, and it’s surprisingly hard to be productive under those conditions. I did get a pickup done, a visit to the chiropractor, and my kid chauffeur duties taken care of. I feel like that was very little, but it was something and got me out of the house. Obviously my plan for the week went to heII early on.
Getting old, 3 of 5 stars, cannot recommend.
It’s been a while since I was this busted up for this long and I don’t like it. No sir, I don’t. I guess I’ll have to start actively fighting the entropy instead of thinking normal life activities are enough. Like I need more to do…
Speaking of which, we’ll see what I get done today, but tomorrow’s hamfest might be less than I had hoped. If I move some of this stuff it’ll be a win, but I’ll still feel like I could have done more. Can’t do everything, and sometimes real life gets in the way of hobbies. And it is a hobby, not life or death.
Speaking of hobbies, I’m fumbling my way around wordpress, and I have more admiration for Rick than ever. F-me, I really don’t like feeling this new and out of my depth. Meatspace. Obligations. Volunteering for my fellow enthusiasts. Joy. I thank a merciful deity that Rick is here to do the ‘under the hood’ stuff. Yapping is easy. Keeping the lights on is harder. Thank you Rick. And also thanks to Barbara, who continues to see value in it.
I’m out in the world today and tomorrow, and doing battle on more than one front. Both of which are HOBBIES. Need to remind myself of that. Valuable nonetheless, but still secondary to family and self.
Stretch out some mental or actual muscles. You might regret it, but you will learn some things.
(and stack, the world isn’t getting any less crazy.)

We have tickets for a showing of “Dune” tomorrow, and I won’t get a chance to check out the ham show since house stuff gets shifted to Sunday.
A Sailor Moon costume is a big investment. I saw this woman (yes, genetic female … imagine) speak at a con last month, and her commission schedule is full.

Guys in Sailor Moon or maid costumes are practically a cliche at cons in Texas anymore, particularly anime events.
The country definitely needs a wake up call with regard to Venezuelans crossing the border illegally.
Conservatives tend to think they will be like the Cuban expats and assimilate. Yeah, that’s not going to happen, especially with Biden looking for an oil deal before the election and dropping hints that an invasion of Guyana by the Venezuelans will be ok.
I second that, to both.
Chilly and grey, but no rain actually falling, yet.
openweathermap.org seems to have changed their website. I couldn’t get it to load last night, and it looks very different this morning.
They are running a banner asking for humanitarian donations for the refugees leaving the Uke…

Thanks to the Hammers of BobTM I once again missed the troll.
Thank you.
Huh, now the forecast doesn’t have rain in it. Sure looks like it’ll rain when I look out my window.
Lack of rain is a good thing for me today, as I need to get loaded up.

Austin cleared out this morning. That is heading your way.
Salvadorans too. Any refugees who voted for the Marxist revolution in their country should be suspect for political asylum claims.
Of course, that category may include half of the US population this November if Moochelle heads the Dem ticket.
Where will Americans go once the Big Mike posters go up in DC similar to the banners I saw in Wisconsin last Fall?

Y’know, that’s something I didn’t need to know.
Every time I try to make a joke to pretend that the world is a stupid place, the world manages to out-stupid me. You’d think I’d learn – it’s like saying “What’s the worst that can happen?” – but I never do. You don’t suppose maybe I’m stupid???
“You don’t suppose maybe I’m stupid???”
More likely there’s a small leaking reservoir of naiveté that periodically drips
Quick, mop it up and stamp it out!

I think it is a frat bro thing. That’s the vibe I get if they aren’t trying with an Amazon costume with a wig and makeup.
Commissioning the Geeky Seamstress for a decent Sailor Moon outfit would not be a frat boy antic.
Points to the Seamstress, who recognized that a doctoral degree from the Arts & Letters department of a land grant university is a financial dead end for all but a very lucky few who are the right gender, race, and sexual preference to get a tenure track position teaching at a lesser land grant university.
I didn’t consider the time spent at her panel to have been wasted.
@Nick (and others) – thanks for the kind words. Glad to help out.
For the website you are making, take a look at the plugins that are installed here. There are some that I wrote (some security one), plus others. For instance, the “Classic Editor” will allow you to not use the Block Editor when creating posts/pages. The Sitemap/XML one is handy. May not need the Comment Editor, but the ‘Block Comment Spam Bots” one I wrote is recommended to keep automated comment spam away, even if you don’t allow comments.
My “CellarWeb Privacy and Security” is recommended. Allows you to set various security settings. The “ChatBot Blocker” keeps the AI scanners away (most of them); I’m working on an update to it. Not needed if you use the “Privacy and Security’ plugin I wrote
Those plugins, plus regular updates (I check all sites daily; that’s easily managed with the “Infiinte WP” plugin) is what keeps the malware away from here.
As for themes – that’s always a time sink to find the right one. And they usually need a bit of tweaking. You might find that you’ll need to try several out before you get too deep into pages. Not a big fan of add-ins like “Elementor” – there’s a yearly cost involved in keeping those up to date. I’ve spent hours finding and testing themes for sites that I have built. For this place, I ended up writing my own basic theme. You’re welcome to use it – it’s in the WP Theme Repository.
When you get a theme, check out how all the options work to customize things. Some themes are more customizable than others.

FedEx Ground finally dropped the UPS off. At the gate because having to bring it to the house for a signature is too tooo toooo hard. I’m not saying FedEx hires Diversity. I don’t know, I’ve never seen them. But by the way they act, well.
I quit watching the tracking because they deliver it or I get a credit on my credit card. I was done.
Anyway. Found it laying in the weeds by the gate yesterday afternoon. It’s charging.
The switches are an example of USPS using faulty worm holes to move the mail. Sent from NY and they “are in transport” for several days. They dropped out of warp drive in Austin. Then to Burnet the next day. And three hours later they were in Troy. A little town on IH-35 north of Killeen. Big River says the package will be delivered on the 6th. USPS says the package is in Austin. So, maybe tomorrow.
Nice day this first day of March. Sunny and 75F. It was 32F this morning for dog walk time. Cold but no wind.

https://www.ogj.com/general-interest/economics-markets/article/14305969/us-remained-largest-lng-supplier-to-europe-in-2023
“In 2023, the US maintained its position as the largest supplier of LNG to Europe (EU-27 and the UK), supplying nearly half of the total LNG imports, according to data from CEDIGAZ.”
That is a lot of LNG from the 23 ? LNG plants in the USA. Those plants cost $10 to $12 billion each and Biden has mandated that no more LNG plants can be built. A log of good jobs and engineering going down the drain.

Heh. He’s in his 80s (… per Wikipedia, 83) so I think I got this.
Setting aside the ick factor, is this a bad idea? It doesn’t sound good and it does sound ick, but would it actually do anything to help pedos keep their urges under control? Has this ever been studied?
I read something decades ago, 1980s, about a young man who followed his psychologist’s (?) suggestion to write stories as a way to control his pedophilic urges. Word about his stories got out somehow (IIRC, someone in the clinician’s office; the guy didn’t go around showing his stories to everyone he met) and he was arrested for child pornographic materials, convicted, and sent to prison for years. He’d never touched a child and didn’t want to, but the urges were still there and after being released from prison he didn’t have the safety valve.
Does child porn written material, cartoons, or child-sized dolls help low-level pedophiles keep it under control? This question cannot be studied and can barely be asked.
Governor Andy Beshar.
People thought it was a good idea because they remembered Daddy Governor Beshar fondly and weren’t really thrilled with the Republican who replaced Daddy.
A top-100 list would show a bunch of ridiculous things. IIRC, vacuum cleaners, microwave ovens, and home exercise equipment are more dangerous than guns.
Don’t get me started if you have property beyond a quarter-acre suburban lawn. And if you have livestock or a garden, god help you. Your guns are the least of your problems.
Probbly never studied, and whatever study would get produced would be worthless.
Let me explain. Many obese pink-haired nazi feminists have studied male pursuits such as porn and video games and violent cartoons, and unsurprisingly, they universally discover that males are awful, and such pursuits make them awfuller.
Which might have a germ of truth. But other studies by actual scientists have shown that the effects that were measured for very short term behavior changes were neither permanent, nor long term.
In other words, most men can distinguish betwene fantasy and reality.
These days, I would be incapable of trusting any scientist studying any subject. After all, they said the “vaccine” was safe and effective and would protect you from catching the disease. Well, safe and effective and would stop you from spreading the disease. Well, safe and effective and would keep you from getting really sick from the disease, when you inevitably caught it. Well, it would keep you out of the hospital at least. Mostly. Hey, don’t listen to those anti-vaxxers about the unending inicrease in excess deaths in highly vaccinated countries, that are not matched in 3rd world countries.
My wife and I caught the Koof on the same day. Her vaxxed experience was far worse than my unjabbed reaction, and she ultimately had to work the phones to get a state antibodies team to pay us a visit so she could get an infusion.
The antibodies hitting her system were like the adrenalin shot going into Uma Thurman in “Pulp Fiction”. Anyone who says that the antibodies weren’t the answer and Pfizer’s therapeutic would have been the better solution in her case needs to get their head out of their a**.

If so, probably 5 to 10% of the authors in the USA would be put in jail for writing books with under-18 sex in them. So, I doubt it.
“New CDC COVID-19 Guidance: Treat It Like The Flu!”
https://www.infowars.com/posts/new-cdc-covid-19-guidance-treat-it-like-the-flu/
“The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) updated “respiratory virus guidance” has been released, and many Americans are pointing out that the agency is late to the party in telling people to treat the virus like the flu or other respiratory illnesses.”
“Meanwhile, the CDC just approved a ninth Covid jab for public use despite the fact the vast majority of Americans are not up to date on their experimental shots.”
“It’s also worth noting the CDC doesn’t appear concerned about the dramatic and unexplained increase in excess deaths across the country following the rollout of the mRNA “vaccines.””
“A top-100 list would show a bunch of ridiculous things. IIRC, vacuum cleaners, microwave ovens, and home exercise equipment are more dangerous than guns.”

Had to stop loading to get to my chiropractor before close, and a storage unit with antennas in it. Hit HEB for sodas on the way home. They are on sale and were out of Diet Dr Pepper when I was there, so we were down to mini cans and I wanted big cans for the Hamfest…
Three 12 packs of 12oz cans for $15, vs 24 cans for $13. That’s an easy choice. Pork butt was 97c a pound, I’ll have two please. And another 10 pound tube of pork tenderloin at $2/lb. I need to cut some bigger roasts for Spring Break, when the inlaws are here…
Saved $36. Spent $110.

Well, I’m packed. Got the test gear off my bench. Strapped the last few items, tarped the truck, and I’m good.
Didn’t do any pricing research, I’m giving this stuff away to any takers at rock bottom prices. Mostly. There are a few things that will be ½ ebay. You essentially only get ⅔ of listing price anyway, and this way I won’t have to ship or guarantee. Although I do for big purchases.
Need to print some call sign business cards… and then I’m ready. I’m sure I’ve forgotten something, but I’ve got most of it.

Jeez, sometimes it’s like peter is reading here, but not attributing. 5 gallon buckets for water storage this time… although I prefer lids with a built in spout…
His audience is wider, and every person who is prepped is one that isn’t looking to steal my food so it’s all good.
I disagree with him about storing food in a storage locker offsite from your main stores. I don’t think anyone will be looking there first. Most facilities don’t allow food storage, so you have to be sly to start with, and anyone who has ever seen a storage unit or watched a show about it wouldn’t think “FOOD!!!1!!” when they see a roll up door. They’ll think trash bags full of clothes, and dirty mattresses.
If you don’t have a secure BOL or friends to run to, I think you should definitely have a storage unit that is “on the way” on your most likely route out of Dodge.
Some freeze dried food, or cans, a few flats of water, changes of clothes for everyone, camping supplies, and copies of your important docs… doesn’t need to be a big unit, everything can be in bins, but it should be accessible without power, and 24/7.
n
I’m loaded up so I should head to bed. I’ve got an early start tomorrow. Technically the doors open at 8, with setup starting at 6, but we all know that you will be mobbed while unloading…

You can’t ask that. You can’t even think that. So much of how governments want to infringe on people’s rights is justified by “think if the children”, and you want to take that away from them?!
Seriously, though: I read a rather cynical article that pointed out: finding and prosecuting actual child abuse is really hard. Finding a few files on a computer is easy, and makes the same headlines. So…
