Cool and damp again, hopefully the clear will hold for another day or two. We are in the rain zone in the national forecast today and tomorrow, but that will suck for driving to the BOL with a loaded truck. It was clear most of the day yesterday but a front came in very dramatically and it got dark early… no rain but SOLID cloud bank.
I did my errands, and a few other things. Like starting to put out some decorations. I got some more of the Halloween stuff put back in the attic too. Didn’t make sense to put it away in front of the Christmas stuff.
Then in the evening I had a prepper fail. Wife and kids will be at Girl Scout camp this weekend so she told me to fill up a couple of 1 pound propane bottles. No problem. Except that I have one full BBQ tank and 4 empties at the moment. I’ve been moving tanks to the BOL, and only taking a couple at a time to get refilled. And I got behind. Compounding the issue, the full tank leaks when I put the transfer hose on it. So that was a no-go. The tank in the grill was almost out and didn’t have enough left to fill even one small bottle. 10 empty small bottles, two part full, no way to refill. Yeah, I moved about a dozen to the BOL, but I should have seen that I was leaving home short.
So I need to fill the BBQ bottles I have here. Then determine if the refill hose is faulty. Then fill or replace a bunch of 1 pound bottles so we can fuel the stoves and Mr Heater Lil Buddy heaters if needed. And all in a hurry because I lost track of it. In my defense, it seems that my wife used the hose to refill some small bottles at some point in the past, without letting me know. I don’t know if the hose leaked at that point or if something failed or is missing as a result of it being used. I’m not happy about the whole mess. I should probably bite the bullet and buy a case of 1 pounders just to be sure we have some.
Cut my hair and trimmed the beard. That wahl trimmer kit has paid for itself in money, time, and convenience many times over. It helps that I wear a crew cut and am comfortable with that. It’s a straightforward clipper cut. My barber is asking $20 per cut now. He was $12 when I started with him in ’03.
All my running around is complicated by the freezer and dishwasher in the back of my truck. I might have to just run around town with them loaded to get everything done before heading up.
It’s always something. Need to get some groceries too. On the plus side, Costco had gas for $2.49/gal. Filled the Expedition. THAT ain’t cheap.
And since we’re on the topic of fuel, I need to start rotating my stored gasoline and cleaning up any that has gotten contaminated with water over the summer. More joy. I did pick up a new 5 gallon jug for storage. The 5 gal. plastic Blitz cans have a definite lifespan. The welded seam at the top of the handle always seems to fail eventually, so I need to start replacing cans too. Commander Zero likes the nato style metal cans, but they are a bit spendy for my taste. I’ll make due with plastic, and just replace them when they fail.
I better get the kids out the door and get started on something.
Stack what you need. Check your stacks. Replace what has failed.

60F and saturated. No actual rain though. Gah, so tired.

Overcast hasn’t cleared and there was a light mist at the bus stop… REALLY need it to not rain today.

More damage control for Herr Doktor. I wonder how long it will be before every military base requires wearing ze armbands -er- masks as a sign of loyalty.
https://www.kgun9.com/news/local-news/fort-huachuca-requiring-masks-indoors-starting-wednesday
I don’t think I ever saw the Texas Supreme Court ruling on where mask authority lies in this state. The Travis County “Judge” wouldn’t hesitate to impose them once UT football season is over.
The US Supreme Court gave authority for masking mandates on planes, etc. back to the TSA on … I’m not kidding … Halloween.
More damage control for Herr Doktor.
What a joke. Only wearing masks in certain places under certain conditions will save no one.
Loyalty test.
Interesting that it is in Arizona. Nothing to see here, folks. Move along.
Masks have always been Kabuki IMHO.
At work, we are scheduled to move into a new building in mid April. I’m being generous when I say it is a complete design disaster. Design being driven by corporate, in another state, who has no idea how we actually work. There are freaking tents in the building. Tents. They are called conversation pods. Very few offices, all structured for teleworking. Which is fine, but upper management has already been rumbling about people returning to the office more. Minimum 2 days a week. Yeah, we all know where it’s heading.
When all the information you hear about the new building is essentially propaganda saying “give it a chance, nothing is set in stone, we can make changes as we go if needed”, well, you know it’s a total cluster.
What we are seeing as management hints at a return to campus is pushback from the Work From Home Mommy Mafia who complain in meetings that they cannot afford child care in Austin at the salary they agreed to accept when hired during the pandemic.
Tents … or do they look more like umbrellas?

The Mouse is already on its knees in Florida? That didn’t take long.
DeSantis will exact pennance.

“Avatar 2” test screenings must be bad.
>> REALLY need it to not rain today.
@nick, have you considered a camper top for the truck? Probably used ones to be had?
@alan, that isn’t a bad idea. The stuff in the bed at the moment wouldn’t fit in a camper shell though.
I think I’ll have to shrink wrap the dishwasher, then some rain won’t hurt it. The chest freezer should be fine.
n
Camper tops always slowly leak on my trucks. And then the mildew smell is horrible when you are loading them.
I don’t have a camper shell, but my brother never seemed to have a problem with his. My truck has a soft, foldable tonneau cover which doesn’t seem to leak (2 years old now) and there’s no mildew smell.
Of course, WFH should not mean caring for children. At least, only older children who may interrupt a couple of times a day.
Competent managers who know how to measure productivity will (or should) fire most of the Mommy Mafia.
The woke brigade here, while claiming to be all about “equality”, now want “menstruation days” for women, so they don’t have to work on their periods. Bizarre, and so counterproductive to their (supposed) goals.
Women who actually care about being treated equally need to stuff all these idiots down a deep hole.
And where do you find them? Next to the unicorn pens?
heII, I don’t want to be treated equally… but then I don’t complain when I’m not.

standard disclaimer applies.
I changed nothing. I looked at various settings but Honest Injun, didn’t touch a thing.
So I just turned Mobile Hotspot on on my phone. Clicked the new style Volume and Bluetooth/wi-fi button by the clock and connected to the phone’s wi-fi.
Nothing has been re-booted. But today, what would not work yesterday, works today.
It’s not my phone. There’s another PC just like my old PC (ok, ok, it has the factory installed wi-fi card and the USB data works) and it’s on wi-fi all of the time. It will hotspot to either phone with a few clicks. Every time.
Well. It works. I’ll tether with the cable because that charges the phone, too.
In the US? Good luck with that. The Mafia is too established, especially since Covid.
Of course, it isn’t just Mommies anymore. There are more than a few Daddies who want to do things like day trade stocks or even work second tech jobs simultaneously.
I stumbled across a recipe today that might be good. I didn’t save it, it was full of foo-foo nonsense of “use this and use that to make pizza sauce” and how to make french fries from raw potatoes. Of course it was all in Euro measurements helpfully translated to the Real Measurements uncultured Americans use or you can just buy a jar of pizza sauce at the store.
Heck, use part of a can of Hunts Spag Sauce.
It’s get a cookie sheet, a single layer of french fries, and then add pizza toppings. Bake until the frozen fries are cooked and the cheese is melted. I don’t think that will work.
I think baking the fries until half done and then adding the pizza toppings would be the way to go. But that’s me.
Then again, I have another idea. You’ve been to a restaurant where they give you a basket of french fries (instead of chips) covered with nacho cheese and a handful of nacho peppers? Do the same with pizza toppings. Simple.
The technicals have been flashing red on a lot of these stocks and funds since January.
I saw a crazy story today proposing that Disney buy Netflix to dig out of their hole.
Note the composition of the HR department. Virtually 100% Karens, bitter shrews, or Mommy Mafia (some category overlap may be observed). It’s an uphill battle to get women fired.
It turns out the slowness on the MacBook Air using Lightroom is NOT due to Rosetta. I have learned that Lightroom has native M2 code for the Mac. The slowness in doing multiple exports is Lightroom exporting to a PNG format. Really slow. Exporting to DNG or JPG the MacBook CPU utilization gets to about 65%. It should go higher, don’t know why. Exporting to PNG the CPU utilization only hits 35%. Makes no sense why the export would use less CPU. Doing multiple exports at the same time, one of those formats being PNG, the CPU never gets above 35%. Kill the PNG export process and the utilization jumps to 65%. Strange happenings indeed.
Today I had a blue screen of death on my PC. First time in years. I plugged in a USB-C drive and boom, BSOD. System restarted and the drive worked without issue after the incident. Strange happenings indeed.
Musk is starting to publish Twitter docs on how CrackHead Biden’s laptop story was suppressed. I’m sure the hate will start flowing from the WH, LSM, and celibriturds.
@Nick: I use a Softopper myself, can be taken off and on in 5m max, or left on and folded down.
I hear it’s weatherproof – but we only had 2.7” of rain this year so I can’t personally endorse that. I use mine for car camping mostly.
Theres a huge variant by someone that you can probably stand up in, the Frogger or something, never seen one in real life.
What does ImageMagick installed via Homebrew do to the CPU when converting using the command line tool?
Late Friday afternoon is the end of the news cycle. If the Sunday shows don’t pick it up, the story will be forgotten.
Mr. Musk would be well-advised to get copies of all the incriminating data to secure locations off-site and OUS.
According to the federal appeals court, if a judge signs off on a search warrant their is no recourse for the victim. Just stick the 4th Amendment where the sun never shines.

Down on the boat.
It’s like someone set off a pelican poop bomb. Poop, masticated fish, halves of fish, sand and gravel, and lots of dust settling from the construction 200’ away. About 5 hours on my hands and knees cleaning. In light rain.
Tomorrow I will attack bilge pump and battery issues.
I don‘t know and really feel no need to find out. I have to export the images out of Lightroom. The images have been cropped, color corrected, and exposure adjusted. Lightroom is a non-destructive editor. All changes must be applied when the images exported. While it takes more time for PNG, I have other things to do during the process. I will export the JPG and DNG, get those taken care of when doing the PNG.
Reputedly, the Biden white house had a hotline to call to get Twitter feeds canceled. Yup, that is collusion.

And people want these people to run the USA.
Dad and I went to see the movie Devotion in Victoria, Texas today. We went to the 340pm showing with 6 or 8 new friends in a 600 seat auditorium.
The movie is about the first black naval aviator in the USA Navy in 1950. Their carrier went to Korea in support of the Marines when the Korean War started. Tough duty. Good movie.
Got pulled down the YouTube short rathole.
So, if Apple made a car would it still have windows?
I’m going to pour a doppelbock and reread a Jack McDevitt.
BTW, Dad and I are wondering how long the movie theaters are going to last with these empty theaters. The only movie we saw this year that was full was the Maverick Tom Cruise movie. We are always going to the Cinemark theater in Victoria but they are all having problems.

The first thing you see when you walk into Costco are the gigantic TVs – 65″, 75″, 85″ and maybe more(?) One of those and some surround sound and why bother with Cinemark? The popcorn is cheaper too from Costco and for us older guys we can hit pause when nature calls.
