Cool but still crazy humid.
Like yesterday. At least it wasn’t so hot in the attic.
Did some work yesterday, after picking up a small window AC unit and a 7cuft chest freezer. The freezer was scratch and dent, never even turned on. Still looking to sell it on, rather than fill it up. I might though.
Today I’m chained to the house. I’ll make the best of it. Plenty to do after all…

At least you get the sale and maybe feedback.
I had a Halloween/cosplay item move via “Make an offer” two days before Halloween, but the buyer passed on Express so it wasn’t for that weekend.

Scooby Doo co-creator Ken Spears dies at age 82… less than three months after his animation partner Joe Ruby passed away at age 87
-sounds like a pretty good run.
Ruby/Spears? Yeah. A few classics. They made a lot of cr*p in the 80s, but so did Hanna-Barbera to be fair.
And people forget “Thundar” was originally a toy commercial.
I can’t remember who RJ Reynolds had developing the Joe Camel cartoon series when they pulled that mascot out of the archives 35 years ago. One of the major animation players.
Hanna-Barbera did Winston commercials featuring “The Flintstones” once upon a time so don’t rule them out. You can see the ads on YouTube, but, again, things can’t be “unseen” once your childhood memories have been scarred. 🙂
“Scooby Doo” licensing is brutal since my former corporate masters assumed control of all the Warner properties. Six Flags Fiesta lost the rights to their extremely well themed ride, forcing a revamp with a lousy “pirate” theme.

I’m part of the “Ferris Bueller” high school graduating class or 1986. Knowing girls like the Blasey-Ford woman, I immediately tagged that entire show as schtick. However, her testimony played well in Peoria, especially among parents with daughters of any age, across all generations, and that was the point.
From yesterday.
Not early, it is in line with the estimates on when the first results from Phase 3 trials would come out. Pfizer was under fire when they were asked if the results would be available before election day and they said no, it wouldn’t. They have to wait until they have data from enough subjects that have been given the shots and the appropriate amount of time passed. They are being extra careful to recruit a diverse population of subjects across racial and age groups. (That’s not being PC, it’s being cautious – there are known differences in the responses to drugs across racial and ethnic lines.)
What is strange about the date? The government set up “Project Warp Speed” to get vaccines to market fast. The program had 3 parts:
– a program under BARDA to fund development (Pfizer didn’t participate in this to avoid paperwork. Some of the small companies did.)
– a program to look at phase 1 and phase 2 data and pick a smallish number of vaccines to fund phase 3 and/or issue guaranteed contracts for the vaccine. Pfizer did the contract. The idea was to get the vaccine under production in Phase 3 regardless of results so that the vaccine would be available faster. Normally, a vaccine won’t go into production until well after phase 3 is done.
– a program where the military, UPS, FedEx, and other logistics companies would set up the delivery mechanisms for the vaccine. Some candidates need to be kept at very low temperatures for storage longer than a few days. (Pfizer’s needs -70 C, dry ice temperature.) That is a challenge for transport, as the transport vehicle needs to deal with offgassing of CO2, if they go that route. Otherwise they need cryocoolers to store it before it’s administered and means having electrical power in the cargo bay. The military and logistics companies have the ability to transport such items, but they would need to scale up the pipeline. FedEx already has low temp storage at major hubs from what I have read. Other vaccines can use normal freezers.
Because the other mRNA products have been in phase 3 trials at the normal, slow pace. It is, indeed, a new technology. But unlike some have claimed, it doesn’t make a change to your genetics. You just have some cells make a protein over a short time. When the mRNA is used up, your body stops making the protein.
One suggestion has been made for the allocation of the first vaccine doses. The usual story is that health care workers would be first, followed by first responders/military, then the vulnerable, and then everyone else. The suggestion was to allocate doses to states by population and let the state officials decide what to do with them. That would put Cuomo on the spot.

Is your time to take a photo, type in and post a listing, respond to potential buyer questions, pack it for shipping, print a address label and drop it off at the PO or UPS worth a dollar? I guess maybe your local auctions for certain items give you a better time-value proposition?
“Is your time to take a photo, type in and post a listing, respond to potential buyer questions, pack it for shipping, print a address label and drop it off at the PO or UPS worth a dollar?”
–nope it is not. Sometimes though I buy something that should sell, but for some reason just doesn’t. There was a time that I mentioned here before that I believed ebay was manipulating search results for mobile app vs desktop web browsing to show far more sales and higher prices for some items. This would cause me to buy something I was unfamiliar with thinking it would sell quickly or for good money, but then it would just sit, even if priced right.
Sometimes, the three guys who want an item buy the three that are listed, and my fourth item is just one too many…
Also, ebay definitely manipulates where your listings show up in searches based on some secret factors, so sales go to certain sellers and not me…
At some point, even with free listings, it’s just not worth keeping the item around and if I get any offer at all, I’ll sell it. You do have to have sales to keep your ranking up on ebay, and someone who got a steal price will usually leave good feedback, which always helps.
And sometimes, just getting your money out of a slow moving item is enough. Put that money back out there into something that will sell.
——————————————-
I just went thru my report from several of my local ‘housewares auctioneer’ sales. I had slightly over 100 lots. Gross sale was ~$1200. I dropped off bins full of stuff, they listed it, sold it, handed it out, collected the money, and wrote me a check. Very little work on my part, but higher commission charge than ebay. I received ~$900. I didn’t go thru every item to apply a cost– most of them came from Goodwill priced under $5 or the Goodwill outlet at $1.20/pound… Some came from yard and estate sales, some were resale from other auctions. The best return, both in terms of dollars per pound/size/bigness and in terms of dollar cost/dollar sold, was in ladies handbags and men’s luggage. Star Wars collectibles came next, and other collectibles. Most of the lots made money, some few lost, and several made less than I thought they would. A couple made more. For the most part they were items that I didn’t want to list myself, either because of potential return hassles, or the individual items were too cheap to make money on after time and shipping.
MUCH easier for me to just dump a few bins of stuff on them. No returns, no shipping, no complaints…. and now I have an even better idea of what’s selling this month.
Funny thing is, stuff appears in auctions in waves, and sells in waves. I might go a year without seeing a Zero Halliburton aluminum case, then see three in different sales. Same for Hartmann luggage, or Coach purses, or Pelican cases. Right now I’m bidding on a high end clock model, I usually see two a year, and in the next three days I’m bidding on THREE. I saw one in person and bid on 3 others in the last couple of weeks. It’s crazy. You rarely see one, let alone 6 or more… Ham radios, or vintage turntables will do the same thing. It’s strange and a bit disconcerting.
Sometimes I’ll have an item or kind of item (like vintage ashtrays) that sell well and consistently for a while, then sales just stop. Can’t give them away… Or someone else says they do a brisk business in something like Hometics power supplies, but I can’t sell a single one, even at fire sale prices (which suggests that search result placement might be an issue.)
It’s a ‘win some, lose some’ business at the best of times. You hope that some knowledge or experience keeps the wins bigger than the loses.

And inventory doesn’t make money it just costs. Ideally, everything I buy every month would sell every month. Doesn’t work that way though and if you’re not aggressive with listings, it will pile up. It’s easy to buy, harder to sell.

What is strange about the date?
Nope, the date of the announcement was political. Pfizer delayed the announcement twice. “Why Did Pfizer Delay Their Vaccine Announcement So Long?”
https://blog.thetravelinsider.info/2020/11/why-did-pfizer-delay-their-vaccine-announcement-so-long.html
“Pfizer has insisted that its work is not influenced by politics and that it was “moving at the speed of science”.
“The facts that Pfizer itself has shared disagree with this smug statement. We’re not looking at “the speed of science” (whatever that is), we’re looking at the decisions about when and what to report on “the science”, and we’re looking at an unexplained decision to delay the initially planned release of data.”
“This data was deliberately held back. We know this because Pfizer tells us so. Pfizer’s press release says, in this part :”
“After discussion with the FDA, the companies recently elected to drop the 32-case interim analysis and conduct the first interim analysis at a minimum of 62 cases. Upon the conclusion of those discussions, the evaluable case count reached 94 and the DMC performed its first analysis on all cases.”
…
“On or about 23 October, Pfizer probably reached the 62 case total and then gratuitously involved the FDA in “discussions” for a second time, 11 days before the election.
If Pfizer had stuck to its original schedule, it could have made an announcement on/about Tuesday 13 October.
If it had promptly announced results after reaching 62 cases, this might have been on/about Friday 23 October.”

WRT investigating election vote counting fraud, at least one of the counting venues was a conference center. There is usually very comprehensive surveillance video coverage of public venues like that, due to security and liability concerns. If pallets came in during the night, there should be video. If there are unexplained gaps in coverage, then that’s suspicious too. They need to issue subpoenas to grab all the video before it gets overwritten or destroyed. Most people don’t even realize how many cameras there are, or that they’re being recorded. Exterior doors, loading docks, atria, and hallways, as well as exhibit floors are all covered.

Seems the ‘long pull’ here is the number of states (3 or 4 I believe depending on which) where the current results (“projected wins” – not yet certified by any states) would need to be reversed. Several defined milestone dates between now and January 20th – will be interesting to see how things play out. And maybe the MSM needs to slow down a bit, spend more time explaining these dates and associated processes. Or are we forever lost to “I need to know everything NOW NOW NOW!” and Breaking News’ precedes every story on CNN.
@nick; thanks for the insightful response, gives me some more to chew on as I stare at my ‘to sell’ pile. BTW, I’ve had some luck with $5 and under items putting them on NextDoor. Things that either used to go in the trash or were left at the curb with a “Free” sign now go to someone that really wants the item. I used to list things in the Craigslist ‘free’ category but the onslaught of people wanting things for free was too much. If you really really need my used vacuum cleaner that I have listed for $5 make an offer (even $1 if that’s all you can really afford) and I’m likely to say yes just to get rid of it.
Are you still making visits to Goodwill during the pandemic? I really try to avoid places, especially if I can’t be in and out in 5-10 minutes. If you are going, have stock levels dropped with people not donating for now?

62,000 people voted Libertarian for President in GA but twice that many voted for the Party’s Senate candidate in the race for the seat held by Perdue. Something is definitely weird there.
Even if the numbers were consistent at ~120,000 votes — as they were in the Presidential and Senate races in the state in 2016 with ~ 160,000 — I’m not really clear on what the Libertarians wanted to accomplish. Plugs first order of business will be to mask everyone as much as possible.

Was Pfizer’s Vaccine News Slow-Walked Until After the Election?
Collaborating with Big Pharma to hold off good news about a vaccine is yet another example of Joe Biden’s and the media’s shamelessness.

“For us, the election is an artificial milestone,” Bourla told reporters. “This is going to be not a Republican vaccine or a Democrat vaccine. It will be a vaccine for the citizens of the world.”
Good deal. I’ll be expecting that citizens of all countries, including the United States, will be charged the same price.
“A Pennsylvania postal worker whose claims have been cited by top Republicans as potential evidence of widespread voting irregularities admitted to U.S. Postal Service investigators that he fabricated the allegations, according to three officials briefed on the investigation and a statement from a House congressional committee.
“Richard Hopkins’s claim that a postmaster in Erie, Pa., instructed postal workers to backdate ballots mailed after Election Day was cited by Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) in a letter to the Justice Department calling for a federal investigation. Attorney General William P. Barr subsequently authorized federal prosecutors to open probes into credible allegations of voting irregularities and fraud, a reversal of long-standing Justice Department policy.
“But on Monday, Hopkins, 32, told investigators from the U.S. Postal Service’s Office of Inspector General that the allegations were not true, and he signed an affidavit recanting his claims, according to officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe an ongoing investigation. “

“O’Keefe releases a tape of feds ‘intimidating’ USPS worker alleging ballot tampering”
https://www.independentsentinel.com/okeefe-releases-a-tape-of-feds-intimidating-usps-worker-alleging-ballot-tampering/
“A USPS employee named Richard Hopkins signed a sworn affidavit alleging ballot tampering and fraud. In the affidavit, the postal worker alleged that postal supervisory officials hatched a plan to backdate ballots mailed after the election.”
“Mr. Hopkins later said the feds intimidated him into watering down the story, but he did not recant.”
OK, this is crazy. Mr. Hopkins is recanting the recant because FBI agents intimidated him ??? And Mr. Hopkins is demanding that the Washington Post recent their story.

Sarah’s back under control and making sense.
Regarding progs and socialists–
I have been trying to make this point in various places and flavors for a while, starting with gun control. They believe in incantation, magic words, talismans, etc. They believe they can control reality with words. “Gun Free Zone” all the PC culture, preferred pronouns, etc

Cool ! I did not know that the SpaceX Dragon can hold four astronauts. More than four ?
BTW, I am thinking about moving to https://www.newsmax.com/ from https://thelibertydaily.com/ . Too much politics !
ADD: SpaceX Dragon 2 can carry up to 7 astronauts. Cool !

To make up for it, I watched Hot Fuzz again. Thanks Mr. Greg!
The whole Cornetto trilogy is worth the time. The studio worked hard to keep the sci fi aspect of “The World’s End” under wraps until “Star Trek: Into Darkness” tanked and suddenly Pegg/Wright/Frost had the best genre film of the summer.
And Edgar Wright’s “Baby Driver”. The lead was a finalist for the lead in “Solo” so, in a way, “Baby Driver” is the best early career Harrison Ford movie that Harrison Ford never made.
The first six minutes is here:

I always give Pegg/Wright/Frost the benefit of the doubt, whether together or in their separate projects. I even enjoyed “Run, Fatboy, Run”.
Jeez. Got a chance to make a pickup and so I took it. No traffic on the Houston freeways today. Weird.
Kids are both getting weird. 11yo is googling inappropriate images and then worries that she needs a therapist because of it. 9yo is suddenly not doing the school work, just sits and listens to audiobooks all day when she’s supposed to be paying attention in class. The other kids rat her out, then the teacher gets upset, and complains that it’s disrupting the whole class.
The online scheduling and work assigning is the worst mess of a dozen websites, cobbled together in what looks like sharepoint, with no day by day schedule. Everything is a half dozen clicks deep, nothing is discoverable, and the file tree structure is different for every teacher. FFS, no wonder the kid can’t figure out what she’s supposed to be doing and with what tools.
n
BTW, I suspect some outside influence on kid 1, and need to start watching her online activity. Isn’t there some way using a packet capture tool and wireshark that I can just watch everything she does as if I was looking over her shoulder? It’s WAY beyond what I’d like to do, but she’s already downloaded some app to get around my wife’s nanny filters, and I’m concerned… we’ve told her many times that we can see everything she does online and not to expect privacy.

Long talks are needed now with Mom and/or Dad. Long talks.
Sex, food, power, pleasure, these are all very addictive things.
Why not? Guardasil has a great record in preventing cancer in women. (And boys should get it so as not to spread the infection.)
Nothing but assertions. No evidence of any kind.
