Thur. Jan. 2, 2020 – resolutions…

By on January 2nd, 2020 in Random Stuff

Cold and wet. Probably.

Yesterday was lost to productivity due to back and neck pain. I don’t lose many days in a year to pain, but yesterday was one. Today isn’t looking good either but the chiropractic office should be open, and that should help.

I don’t do formal resolutions anymore, but I do pick something to emphasize during the coming year. Last year it was stretching and exercise, and neither happened. The year went by so fast, I never got to it.

This year, it’s getting rid of my inventory, so that I can do more of the work and hobbies I enjoy. Stretching will have to happen or I’ll be backsliding. Can’t afford to lose any more strength or flexibility. Some sort of self-defense training will have to happen too. I’ve been super slack getting to the range. That has to change.

Other than that, more of the same. MOAR!!!111!!!! More skills, more stacking, more meatspace.

If any of y’all have any resolutions you’d like to share, feel free. Maybe we can encourage each other to keep them.

    From yesterday:

“Doctor Who” still suffers from bad writing and casting, but the new wrinkle tonight was awful photography.

The wrinkle at the end was good. I didn’t expect that.

It’s not the photography that annoys me, but the post treatment. Everything is yellow and dark and looks like it’s been over-compressed. Or maybe that’s just Dish cutting back the bandwidth on BBCA.

That character’s return had been rumored, but lot of fans, myself included, assumed that it would be Lenny Henry.

Lenny Henry as [omitted], even if just for one episode, would have bought a lot of cred for Chinball with the fans. The last person to portray that character established the new gold standard for the role, and the problem with reintroducing so soon is that the individual in question remains loyal to the old regime. The new actor needed to be proven talent on that level, capable of hitting the ground running, and that didn’t happen.

Who knows. Maybe Henry will turn out to be [omitted].

I pulled a torrent so I didn’t see the yellow/dark images. Lots of bad lighting/camera angles, however.

In absence of merchandise sales, AT&T’s money covered production of this season along with the next one and saved Chinball’s job. Dish isn’t going to go out of their way to help the competition, and BBCA is no longer a production partner so don’t expect them to fuss too much.

As long as the endless Kim Crawford commercials look decent enough, BBCA makes money.

  4. Mark W says:

So far, Henry’s character seems really weak for his talents. There’s more next week though.

  5. Mark W says:

I should find a torrent for the UK version. Similar problem with Grey’s Anatomy. The ABC version looks like they forgot to turn the lights on, but a Canadian download has good lighting. I don’t understand why ABC thinks doctors work in the dark.

If you’re watching OTA (broadcast) HDTV, the affiliates are free to use their bandwidth as they see fit, dividing the channel between the big network and rerun outlets like MeTV or Antenna.

The big Fox station in Austin which LBJ used to own now has five channels with a sixth in the works.

I’ll be disappointed if Lenny Henry was just window dressing like Stephen Fry.

The clip featuring Henry delivered before Christmas was catnip to all the fans my age who remember Henry’s “Chef” running paired with “Doctor Who” and/or “Red Dwarf” on many PBS stations in the 90s.

“Chef” probably earned Sir Lenny the “Sir”, at least the first two seasons.

    Loved Lenny as Chef!…

Feeling much better this morning. The second dose finally did the trick, allowing me to relax enough for stuff to realign and stop hurting. Of course I was up most of the night until that happened, so I’m beat.

Wife’s working today and tomorrow, so I’m home with the kids. Their late night binge watching has them either still asleep, or lazing on the couch.

I better get some breakfast in them. and me.

    Loved Lenny as Chef!…

Amazingly, Tampa’s second tier PBS station, WUSF, bought the show right after the second season aired in the UK so all the event references on “Chef” were still current.

The third delayed season was a reaction to the show catching fire in the US, but the BBC cheaped out, cut the location budget, and shifted to tape from film. It is still worth watching for the writing, however.

I have a “Chef” box set waiting for a Lenny Henry appearance at a convention. I was hoping his “Doctor Who” character would be recurring, but that probably won’t be the case.

Castro was in only as part of an effort to keep his family relevant in San Antonio race pimp politics. The reelection of Mayor Nirenberg and recent leadership vacuum on various state/local issues from the TX Governor and Legislature established a new Prog power structure for that part of Texas in which the Scions of La Raza are not central players.

The Times is half-jokingly referred to as Pravda West in our house. For them to publish an article like that about a new Republican Governor speaks volumes.

The FL Dems had a chance to win and dominate state politics for another couple of decades, stacking the FL Supreme Court ahead of redistricting, but they threw it away in favor of a candidate who is still facing the possibility for indictment.

My guess is that Stretch already has the fix in to derail Shot Girl after Impeachment implodes. If she’s reelected in 2020, she won’t survive a redistricting in which NY loses 2-3 seats if projections are true.

In strictly PC terms, the rule states that it speaks to the quality of a young lady’s character if she comes from a good home, raised properly, and still chooses to smoke cigarettes. There are cruder variations on the theme.

Shot Girl made a living by having male customers suspect the quality of her character, and very little has changed since she won the election.

  32. Greg Norton says:

AOC was born on Oct 13, 1989. She will be 35 on Oct 13, 2024.

Over 30 now, hence the big PR push which has been running since her birthday. Plus, the brains of the operation (if you can call him that), Chakrabarti, was forced to resign under cloud of suspicion about diverting Justice Democrat funds to companies he controlled, and Shot Girl will most likely have a primary opponent the municipal unions recruit to bring home a bigger slice of the $1 Trillion annual money printing.

That is some very interesting thinking, if he’s serious. Hard to believe he’s truly serious, or that the civil service will stand idly by whilst being bypassed.

It’s my belief that if aliens with FTL travel showed up tomorrow, we’d figure out how they did it, and probably find someone who had ALREADY worked it out but was ignored. Widening the search is awesome.

To my mind though, and it’s probably due to my American heritage, he’s pushing for top down government solutions. He seems to see this as an opportunity to make sweeping changes. My question with all the hand wringing about Brexit was, why the heck can’t it simply revert to how it was before joining? Start there and tune as needed.

(is no on arguing for O tariffs and completely free trade? Didn’t think so…)

Not gonna happen in the 2020 election. But 2024, watch out !

My county, Fort Bend County, swung dumbocrat in the 2018 election. They are incompetent. They just put a ADA into place as a dumbocrat judge who was fired from the District Attorney’s office in 1985 for stealing funds from the crime victim’s fund. He also plea bargained my brother-in-laws murderers to less than two years in the state jail. We are not happy.

My former USMC son thought about doing embassy duty for a while. The embassy Marines are about 10,000 Marines. The first, second, and third duty stations are not Norway or Japan. They are Kenya, Iraq, Uganda, Ethiopia, etc. Third world crappers that you suit up for each day with body armor. Real body armor with 65 lbs of ceramic plates.

  41. TV says:

    Hi Nick
Some unsolicited advise, which you can ignore as it may only be worth what you paid for it. I am a few years older than you and you are about to find out, if you haven’t already with your back, that parts of you that worked fine up until now are going to start to complain and malfunction. For me: plantar faciitis, severe calf muscle strains/tendon tears, gluteus sprains, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, and rotator cuff problems. Some minor (thank the deity) back problems. All of them essentially caused by reduced flexibility and weakened muscles due to age. You can’t take care of the ones you love if you don’t take care of yourself first, so please start a simple regimen of stretching and exercise, even for 20 minutes. Consider it another prep. I know there are nowhere near enough hours in the day already, but do try, it will save time and pain in the long run.

Indeed. When I worked for EDS the dress code was very strict to the point of being legendary. People would ask why I tolerated such a draconian dress code. My answer was simple. I did not have to tolerate as no one was forcing me to work for EDS. If I didn’t like it I could leave at any time. The dress code was part of the job. Take or leave it.

“Business Casual” went too far IMHO. And it allowed managers to play favorites 20 years ago since, during the transition period, personal discretion decided who was in compliance and who was not.
