Wed. Dec. 25, 2019 – Merry Christmas!

By on December 25th, 2019 in Random Stuff

Another cool and damp day. Story of my life lately.

Also, not a white Christmas.

Opened a bunch of presents last night. Kids were nutso. Very nice dinner, and lots of other desserts. Even some cookies, provided by a neighbor and good friend.

Everything was in place for the jolly fat man to make his visit.

Today the kids will be losing their minds, we’ll all eat too much, and hopefully a good time will be had by all.

Take this day to celebrate what you believe. These are the good old days.

May the peace and joy of the season be with you all,

nick

    Merry Christmas!

@Lynn – I forgot to add yesterday that “The Simpsons” “You Only Move Twice” is a very clever slam on Microsoft of the era if you pay attention.

Santa seems to have avoided all the AS air defense batteries for another year.

Sandy Claws came and went. Many presents were opened this morning, and the high pitched squealing had dogs covering their ears up and down the street. American Girl dolls seem to be exactly what the 8-10 yo set most desire.

Weather is sunny and cold, but no snow.

I hope that everyone here is having a good day.
We’ve got food and possibly a movie on the agenda for the rest of the day.

    Merry Christmas to all!

    Merry Christmas, all.

Not exactly a white day here, either. There’s some snow on the ground, mostly on the north-facing sides of hillocks, but it’s mostly brown.

Buttermilk pancakes, bacon, and sausage for breakfast and a ham tonight. Hot pot tomorrow, when we’ll be able to gather the family together; one son is still on the way. Daughter and wife are each wearing one present from me (giant, thick socks and a jacket, respectively) but otherwise we’re waiting until tomorrow afternoon or evening to open everything.

    So true.

“Virginia’s Second Amendment Attack” by Walter E. Williams
    http://walterewilliams.com/virginias-second-amendment-attack/

“Virginia Governor Ralph Northam apologized for his medical school blackface stunt, but he will have much more to apologize for if he signs into law a bill that attacks Virginia citizens’ Second Amendment rights. The measure is Senate Bill 16, which would ban “assault” firearms and certain firearm magazines. Since Democrats have seized control of Virginia’s General Assembly, they are likely to push hard for strict gun control laws. Those laws will have zero impact on Virginia’s criminals and a heavy impact on Virginia’s law-abiding citizens who own, or intend to own, automatic weapons for hunting or their protection. As a friend once explained to me, “I carry a gun because I can’t carry a cop.””

    I love it, “I carry a gun because I can’t carry a cop.”.

I forgot to mention that I cannot stand the Simpsons. The father is an embarrassment to fathers everywhere.

    “Coonman” has nothing to lose.

I’m still puzzled as to how the Governor stays in office. Does Virginia lack a recall mechanism?

If VA does have a recall mechanism which is going unused, the people there will have no one but themselves to blame when the camps open and the confiscation raids begin.

    Merry Christmas.

Saw Star Wars this afternoon. It was entertaining, but my view is clouded by what’s been done to the franchise.

    @ITGuy,
That was our movie today too, Rise of Skywalker.

I was entertained. Some revelations made Rey’s effortless mastery of the power make a bit more sense. BOTH males had hotties to choose from and chose each other and their throuple…. which I find offputting, but I never liked those characters anyway.

Carrie Fisher did a fine job, despite being dead. Frank Oz too.

I was seated on the far right (Hah!) aisle, so sometimes the 3D did weird things. I expected that from my professional life though. Theatre wasn’t anywhere near full, but had a decent crowd for Christmas matinee.

Strange to see Chewie killing people, and the other graphic deaths. IIRC the earlier movies rarely showed Chewie ever shooting anyone who died. The light sabre thru the chest shots were part of the narrative I guess…

    Anyway, did like it.

This movie had to sell theme park tickets. The new Rise of the Resistance ride takes place mostly in re-creations of those Star Destroyer sets.

We watched the first four episodes of The Mandalorian on Disney+ on my new Roku Ultra tonight. I liked it but the wife is on the fence. Baby Yoda is freaking weird. And cute.

I did not know that The Mandalorian is set five years after “Return of The Jedi”. A troubled time period in the Star Wars Universe.
