Beautiful day yesterday. Spent a couple of nice hours at the local “pond” which would be called a spring fed lake anywhere else. $5 to park and pay the lifeguards. Just a couple other local families with young kids. Water was clear and comfortable.
Then dinner in Rhode island and home…
Weird how close together everything is here.
Family party this afternoon. The local news said cape cod was open for business after the National Guard got called in to help with cleanup. So we’re still on track to head out there in a day or so. Nothing like vacationing in a disaster area….
Now to post this and get to bed.

Check the filters in the AC system in the rental. Remediation/cleanup crews always forget those even though the rest of the house/condo will look like nothing happened in the storm.
We rented a couple of places in post clean-up disaster areas over the years — hard to avoid in FL. In one condo, I pulled a filter caked in mold out of an AC system in a condo where remediation was otherwise so good that the phone book on the bottom shelf of the night stand in the main bedroom was older but clean, without obvious exposure to water.
When I used to stay in hotels all the time I would always check the filters. Most of the time they would change them without an issue but sometimes they would get pissy about it as if I shouldn’t have looked at the first place.
Lay down in the tub and look at the underside of stuff to see which places they miss when they clean.

If there is mold in the filter there is mold throughout the unit. It needs a pro cleaning done with a mold killing agent. OTH, I was attacked by bedbugs which was far more shocking to find in the morning and required complete cleaning of my luggage and clothes.
I’ve had bed bugs in rooms several times. I also carry a UV light. No one can clean a bathroom enough to get everything. But, when there are streams up the wall, yuck!

I was surprised when I found the mold since it was the flagship resort for that part of Florida but had changed ownership after the hurricane.
We just don’t stay there anymore.
Bed bugs in FL were really rocking and rolling for a few years after Katrina. Even Disney had Katrina refugees stashed in the far buildings of the All Star bargain resorts. We saw the situation first hand in Fall 2005 after another storm forced us out of a cabin at Fort Wilderness, another story I’ve posted here several times.

Joe Bob glosses over a few things, such as City Lights being a popular hangout for NAMBLA types (go Google that … if you dare) and the Condor Club turning into a family-friendly sports bar long before the first Internet bubble.
But, yeah, San Francisco traded its soul for dot Com money and real estate valuations based on the peninsula becoming palatable to Mainland Chinese tastes.
Still lots of strip clubs and stupidity in Portland … for now. But you will need external income, especially moving there over 50.
Further north, Seattle whored itself out to become a subsidiary of Amamzon.com. They’re a one company town, far worse than San Francisco, beholden to the tastes of one man rather than 1 Billion people.
My 80 year old dad, my 36 year old son, and I went to see “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” today. I remember when the Manson “family” killed Sharon Tate and her friends one dark 1969 night. Lets just say that I was a little freaked out at the end. I am not sure that 50 years has been long enough. Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt play their usual awesome selves.

“And adults who really want to kill themselves will find ways. I don’t understand why the rest of us must be kept from medicine, because a few will want to destroy themselves. Tell them what it’s doing to them, and they let go. A few will turn around. And many will destroy themselves.”
“They’re not two years old. The government is not their parent. Let them go.”
Sarah gets it. Or least she and I agree on this immensely.

Wow ! I am continually impressed by Trump’s managerial ability.
You can get more done when people are looking the other way and riled up about other things.

Pitt is awesome in Tarantino’s “Ingloroious Basterds”.
It is obvious that a great deal of “Basterds” ended up on the cutting room floor once Tarantino realized what he had in the dailies from Christoph Waltz.
If you want the same level of fun and LA/Hollywood nostalgia without quite the same (I’m guessing) level of freak out, find a copy of “The Nice Guys”. Intense violence, but “Lethal Weapon” fun — same writer.
Tarantino wanted Matt Smith for Manson, but, Smith, having portrayed Manson previously, wisely avoided the typecasting potential and did “Star Wars” instead this year.
I think it is Smith cackling at the end of the trailer. Another legendary sci fi role from another former lead actor in the series, further cementing the trouble for the current producers of “Doctor Who”?
We shall see. Listen carefully, however.

I think (hope, actually) that it sounds like Palpatine laughing. Maybe my subconscious is desperately trying to give me hope for Episode 9. What I’m actually looking forward to are the new episodes of The Clone Wars.

My guess — Matt Smith is either a Palpatine clone or a groupie possessed by the Emperor’s ghost.
A knockout performance by Smith with BBC One airing “Good Omens” this Fall would require a huge response from the “Doctor Who” showrunners.
