Sun. May 19, 2019 – awake! Moving stiffly.

By on May 19th, 2019 in Random Stuff

90F at 9am.  If we’re really in summer, we’ll be starting my ‘rule of tens’ for temperature….  70%RH and sunny, so maybe a nice day, if hot.

I woke up at 7, decided to go back to sleep for an hour, and look what happened.

I loaded several thousand pounds of wood- and metalworking machines on a trailer yesterday.   Some were on pallets, but most were just dragged.  Even moving a couple thousand pounds on a pallet isn’t easy.  I am pretty stiff and sore today.  They’ll go to the auction tomorrow.  After all, how many broken drill presses does one man need?   I have the trailer all week if needed and will be making at least one more trip.  All part of the medium range plan.

Picked up a rainbarrel yesterday.  I’ll add that to the rain capture system some time this week.  That’s another 50 gallons of stored water.

Sprayed the grape vines for caterpillars again.  They have FRUIT!  The bunches look a bit scrawny but I guess we’ll see.

I better get the monsters fed, and get started.  I’m thinking that today will be a ‘fix and repair’ day.  The list is long, and the time is short…

“Texas girl, eight, who was snatched off the street in front of her mother is found seven hours later in the hotel room of 51-year-old man who is not related to her

Salem Sabatka was found safe at a Fort Worth hotel at around 2am Sunday
Police said at a press conference that a suspect, 51, has been taken into custody
Eight-year-old Salem had been missing for over seven hours after being kidnapped in broad daylight while on a walk with her mother Saturday evening
CCTV footage showed an ‘unknown light skinned male’ grabbing Salem and putting her into his car in Fort Worth’s Ryan Place neighborhood
Her mother jumped into the car and tried to rescue her daughter before the man pushed her out and drove off
Police shared descriptions of the suspect and his car, which two citizens spotted at the WoodSprings Suites hotel less than eight miles away “

    The headline drops ONE WORD….

“An Amber Alert was issued for Salem, who is 4’5”, shortly after her abduction, describing the suspect as a ‘light skinned black male of skinny build'”

Maybe that’s why this isn’t blowing up the news cycle.

Quick meta look at the media coverage, local tv websites-

CBS initially no mention of the story at all, now pic of the kid, no description of the perp
KFAA- blank page due to obnoxious anti- adblocker policy
Fox- front page link with big mug shot of perp
nbc- leading with kid pix, has mug shot, no description (so search won’t find it)

nope, no media bias at all

(now they’ve released his name, I wonder if more info will follow)

Alright, one down. The new controller board for the dishwasher seems to have done the trick. Displays came up, pump started, and the wash cycle seems to be going.

    Now to yard work….

BTW, 102F in my driveway in the sun… 53%RH

This kidney stone stuff sucks. Six days later and still nauseated, side hurts from the stent, no appetite, urinating hurts and still bloody. Appointment Tuesday where hopefully the stent is removed.

Congrats ! Was the cost of the controller board worth it ?

Well, I decided to transition last Thursday. It was a really difficult decision even if the wife did not care. I have been delaying the decision for as long as I could stand it but, it was time. And I have to admit, I am more comfortable now. However, I just feel a little less formal now. And for some reason, many guys here in Texas do not ever transition and stay like they are forever. Even if they are uncomfortable with their decision.

So, it is short sleeve shirt season now. And I moved the long sleeve shirts to the back rack and the short sleeve shirts to the front rack. I look forward to the fall transition.

For a minute I though you meant “furries”.

Well, I decided to transition last Thursday.

Did you pick Zer or Zim?

    LOL!

Must not google “furries”. I have a bad feeling about this.

I am very experienced with DONUTS !

Well, I decided to transition last Thursday.

Did you pick Zer or Zim?

Him ! I am not even sure what a Zer or a Zim is. Is Zer a short form of Zero ? And Zim a short form of Zimbo ?

  13. Nick Flandrey says:

“Himbo” is the correct derogatory for a male ‘bimbo’.

I never wear long sleeves any more, with the exception of the new miracle fabrics. I have been wearing them in the coldest part of winter, instead of a short sleeve T under my collared (short sleeve) shirt. Long sleeve dress shirts? Only under a suit coat.

    n

I used to love sweaters and still love jackets but don’t have any time to wear them here.

My son, Dad, and I went to see “John Wick 3” last night. If you liked “John Wick 1” and/or “John Wick 2” then you will like the gratuitous violence fest known as JW3. If body counts approaching one hundred bother you then you should pass. But, you knew that all ready.

What lovely people, yearning to be free, willing to enslave and exploit children in the commission of their crimes.

“Rapid DNA-Testing Reveals Third Of Migrants Lying About Family Relationship To Children”

“”We’ve broken up child recycling rings — if you can believe it — in the last couple of months, which is where smugglers pick up a child, they give it to adults to present themselves as a family once they get over — because, as you know, we can only hold families for 20 days — they send the child back and bring the child back with another family. Another fake family,” Nielsen told Fox News’s Tucker Carlson. ”

Brief mention on the NBC national news, no description of the perp beyond the fact that he’s male.

Wotta sooo-prise, as JEP used to say.

  17. Greg Norton says:

Must not google “furries”. I have a bad feeling about this.

Googling “furries” isn’t nearly as disturbing as what you will find for the related term “furpile”.

Some things can’t be un-seen. Consider yourself warned.

Most sci fi/fantasy cons of any reasonable size will have furries and at least one furpile somewhere. C2E2 in Chicago didn’t lack for furries, but it was 40 degrees outside. The hardcore are the folks who run around San Japan dressed like that on Labor Day weekend in San Antonio.

  18. Nick Flandrey says:

@lynn, the dishwasher just completed the run and everything is working and back to normal.

The control board was $182 plus tax and delivery from searspartsdirect. This was only $20 more than the best ebay price and included returns while the ebay seller didn’t.

It was an easy swap, about a dozen screws and moving the wire bundles. The plugs were all color coded.

It was definitely worth it. The washer does a great job of cleaning and is quiet. It’s all stainless steel for the door liner, and the tub. Comparable washers were $1000 or more at sears, and still $550 – 960 at the scratch and dent outlet.

I’ve had to replace the impeller, as it got ground down by food debris until it didn’t work, and I think I had to replace the food grinder, or maybe I just had to clean out a piece of bone… none of it was hard, although on the pump I had to go back and forth a bunch of times.

TL:DR== I wasn’t ready to spend a grand so I pretty much had to fix it.

Isn’t there an allegation that Burrito Beto is a furry?

Isn’t there an allegation that Burrito Beto is a furry?

Among other things. I strongly suspect that the Vanity Far cover was not the only set of photos taken at Beto’s house that week. Annie Liebowitz is the one photographer who will keep her mouth shut.

That reminds me — Robert Francis has flamed out pretty fast, and I swear another Dem has signed up to take on John Cornyn so the next “Mom In Tennis Shoes” lifer in the Senate may not hail from Texas.

He’s currently trying to “reboot” his campaign. He thinks he started too early, and maybe came off as ‘kinda rich white guy’….

I still see “viva Beto” signs around the neighborhood.

Ok, got the citrus pruned and sprayed for mealybugs.

Resprayed the grapevines with another bug killer (the one I used may have been too old, it is biologically active.)

Moved one pallet of stuff from the driveway to the trailer for the auction. Blew leaves out of many nooks and crannies around the remaining pallets on the driveway. Got some tarps dried out and put away.

Got other misc tasks done. Got the yard mowed, the weeds pulled, and some other water feature related stuff done (happy wife….etc)

Didn’t get a chainsaw or the gennie running but I’m closer now.

Had a camera fail. I’ll have to look into that tomorrow.

    Kinda rich.

William Sanders, Robert Francis’ father-in-law, has a net worth of anywhere between $500 million and “tres commas” depending on the source.

And yes, Robert Francis does have a connection to “Camelot”. His step Grandfather was Kennedy’s Secretary of the Navy.

*Old* money, at least on the mother’s side. The San Antonio afternoon drive time host claims Robert Francis is pure Irish-American going back to Great Grandparent level.
