Mon. Mar. 18, 2019 – brain not working this am…

By on March 18th, 2019 in Random Stuff

Cool and damp, probably around 54F. Yesterday turned into a beautiful day- sunny with blue sky and just a hint of cool in the air. It sure would be nice to have today be similar.

Folks, the Second Amendment isn’t the only one under attack. The First is taking a beating too. The same people who are bleating for disarming themselves are bleating to muzzle themselves too. ‘Hate speech’ is like ‘assault weapon’. It’s a made up term that is being used to criminalize what was and should remain legal. Social pressure and “PC” cultural elements are no longer enough. They want to (and do) use companies to ‘de-platform’ users whose ideas and speech they don’t like, eliminating one of the great benefits of the internet, publishing with a worldwide reach for everyone. Now they want the power of government and the threat of violence to silence those they disagree with.

While we’ve been standing fast on gun rights, they did an end run on 1A issues. Most of the western democracies now criminalize speech and we are close behind.

We need to fight this, now while we still can.

They came for the 10th A, but I didn’t care because I don’t understand the issue
They came for the 4th A, but I did not care because I’m not a druggie
They came for the 5th A, but I did not care because I’m not a criminal
They came for the 2nd A, but I did not care because I’m not a murderer
They came for the 1st A, and now I can’t even tell you why they’re wrong

    Awright! Awright!

23º and sunny on the north coast. No imbibing yesterday. Though I’m of Irish descent, I prefer to drink with professionals. Entirely too many amateurs drink on the Feast of St. Patrick.

I note that some of the news lately is of a political variety. Even the most open-minded thinkers are starting to harden & shout “blasphemy” when a member of their party disagrees with the party line. Idiots.

Race on Saturday went very well. Of 410 finishers, only one missed read, and I have reason to believe he ran around the start line, to begin with. We certainly got him at the finish. New timing system works extremely well.

None of the other democracies have free speech as part of written law.

We walked past the Chicago Tribune building last night. Kinda eerie to look inside and see so many floors gutted.

And, for the record, the Billy Goat is “No Pepsi, Coke”.

On a gig in Sacramento. Wx is fantastic. In Phoenix Thursday for a gig. Next week off to Seattle for a two day get-away (arranged by kids, yeah, Seattle). Drive up to Bridgeport, hopefully snow will be down (hi Mr. DadCooks). Gig with the school district.

A consortium of Mexican Universities are awarding a PhD in Human Rights to MrsAtoz. A bunch of peeps from LULAC nominated her and she got it. Now it’s Doctora MrsAtoz. I told her I should get one for putting up with her for 28 years. Surprisingly, I didn’t get the chunkla to the head. That’s in the first weeek of April. More trips to San Bernadino, the city that sucks dead bunnies.

In the other news, muslims are still martyring Christians around the world. “A gunman shot dead three people and wounded nine on a tram in the Dutch city of Utrecht on Monday and police said they were hunting for a 37-year-old Turkish man in an apparent terrorist attack.”

And, “At least 120 people have been killed in a series of alleged attacks by the Fulani militia on Christian communities in the Adara chiefdom of southern Kaduna in Nigeria since February, according to the nonprofit group Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW).”

Don’t forget the church bombing in the Phillippines

    https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2019-03-18/1-dead-multiple-injured-gunman-opens-fire-utrecht-tram

“Two bombs at a Roman Catholic cathedral in southern Philippines have killed 20 people and injured dozens more, local officials say.

The Islamic State (IS) group said it was behind the attack on Jolo island, where jihadist groups are active.

The first blast happened as Sunday Mass was being celebrated. A second device exploded outside as soldiers responded.”

–note for us, the tactics have changed, the second bomb was held in reserve for the responders. We’ve now seen this in several cases.

I have been noticing this lately. I had no idea that the European Community and Canada inhabitants did not have the right of free speech. Scary stuff when The People In Charge can criminalize speech. Shoot, they don’t even have to put kiddie porn on your pc to put you in jail in the EC. Just find some miscreant you says that you hate muslims.

Shoot, that is the old Middle East special. They’ve been doing that to our soldiers in Iraq for decades. I am fairly sure that my son implemented that practice in the Middle East village experience in California that he participated in for a few months before he left Uncle Sam’s Misguided Children. He would come running around a corner and throw a practice grenade into a bunch of soldiers patrolling down the street. Then another guy would hit them from the other side a minute later. Anything was fair game in the village as they tried to teach the newbie guys how to keep awareness in bad situations.

Woodinville. Some B&B that is supposed to be “fantastic.” To a Millennial. This is a gift from one of our kids who attends the annual “Sasquatch” festival so I’m dubious.

still listening to the fire fight at the chemical plant east of town. They are still having trouble keeping water pressure and supply up, and keeping the rigs supplied with foam. Tanks continue to heat up and vent, with the vented material catching fire. Local news says two more days…

The private corporate crews are still fighting along side the municipal crews.

Today they are using a fire boat to supply water to some of the crews. I don’t know if that’s something new, was needed because of damage, or is a continuation of policy, but there wasn’t any mention of fireboats last night.

kinder morgan, exxon, chevron and bp have been mentioned so far.

They just lost a tank and the overhead pipe rack, with a propane line running on it. They are evacuating all gear and guys from 2 sides….

New Zealand is a tragedy. I see, of course, that the usual suspects are not going to let a crisis go to waste. It’s not a fruitcake who shot those people, it’s the evil guns. As if a tool is capable of autonomously doing evil things. And the news critters here are eating it up, showing all those evil guns for sale in some NZ gun shop. Seriously?

Meanwhile, Boeing has seriously screwed the pooch. I know hindsight is 20/20, but seriously: who approves a critical flight system, one that can apparently override the pilot, when the system depends on a single sensor with no redundancy? It will be interesting to see what the investigation reveals. Likely simple stupidity, some mid-level manager wanting to save a penny, compounded by a management intent on avoiding FAA oversight. Time will tell…

    Bought a new car lately?

The “Lane Assist” in my new Toyota got turned off as soon as I got home from the dealer. It depends on one questionable sensor (camera behind the rearview mirror), and, driving home, attempted to wrest control from me when it thought I entered a turn lane too soon and without signalling “properly”.

  24. MrAtoz says:

At least my Subie just beeps for out of lane. I drove a rental Jeep that fought me. Then pinged back and forth between the lines.

  25. Nick Flandrey says:

And the following too close sensor, the one that can slam on your brakes at highway speed, sometimes gets fooled by debris, like ice and snow buildup. Suddenly you are skidding to a stop in the middle of the freeway.

The rental Suburban I had would poke me in the butt for all kinds of things. The steering wheel would fight me on lane changes, and the constant flashing of the “blind spot” warnings would draw my attention away from the road ahead.

    NOT gonna buy one.

I would not purchase a GM product, used or new. I’ve got a friend getting his 2017 Chevy truck rebuilt after having a deer go through the radiator. He has now been waiting for three months for a new air conditioning condenser.
