Month: December 2018

Fri. Dec. 21, 2018 – another week gone, only a couple left

66F and less than saturated, but it feels really chilly, so who knows?

Nice yesterday and I got a few more lights hung outside. Hoping for more of the same today.

Prepping has ground to a halt for me. I did get a little bit of additional food, but all the rest of my time got sucked up by the holidays, rats, and kids. In other words, life happened to me. Which is the way it’s supposed to be- prepping supports my life, not the other way round. Sometimes I forget that.

At the same time, I haven’t been more concerned about the state of the economy since 2008. I really think this is the long overdue ‘reset’. I hope that things are different from 2008, but if anything, the problems of 2008 are still here, and many are worse.

I think we have enough of ‘down’ to call it a trend, and as more people say “yup, this is it” there is a self-reinforcing feedback that will bring it on. Not fun times. Further, everyone will be blaming Trump, and not the Fed policies that inflated the bubbles to begin with.

Well, more immediate things call…time to make breakfast for the family.

Thur. Dec. 20, 2018 – gulag sweet gulag

53F and drippy. Never got real rain yesterday, but misty drizzle made it dreary. Occasional sun helped.

Woke up dreaming I was someplace like NORK, or East Germany. Not clear if I was a prisoner or a guest, possibly both, or one then the other. The scene from Schindler’s List went through my brain… the slave in the factory – proud to be German, doing his best work.

Is that us? Will it be?

Wed. Dec. 19, 2018 – keeps marching on … at double time

56F and drizzling. Wet and miserable.

Countdown to the end of the year keeps going. I’m falling further behind.

Big stack of stuff to do today, we’ll see how much gets done. Rain WON’T help.

And the world continues to go mad. Talking to the Russians = go to jail, but selling them nuclear materials = good job, here’s a pile of money, go write a book– that is, if you are the right sort of pig.

I know I’m not the right sort. The things I believe in as correct and necessary are mocked as outdated, stupid, badthink. My very existence is vilified, and otherwise intelligent and tolerant people nod along. The actual accomplishments of people like me are dismissed and ridiculed, while the extreme and bizarre mental illnesses of others are celebrated. Perversions and mutilations, the most degrading and harmful behaviours- revered, worshiped, and set as an example for children to aspire to. Yet people just like me plod along, faithfully doing what’s necessary so that civilization continues for another day.

Mon. Dec. 17, 2018 – it’s all downhill from here

51F and wet. Better than 42F I guess. It would be nice to have everything really dry out though.

Yesterday’s rat corpse hunt ate up all my time. Had to be done, but the list pushed back. Now we are on the downward slope to the end of the year. Just a couple of weeks left in ’18. Here I am, living in the future, and bitching about it. It still seems weird to sign and date with a 20xx, which shows how unimaginative and inflexible I am, I guess. So much left to do….

Sun. Dec. 16, 2018 – retrospective

42F and sunny but damp.

Slept in a bit.

Stayed up reading this site actually.

Some good refresher content under the ‘beginning prepping’ ‘prepping 101’ and ‘amateur radio’ and ‘ radio’ tags.

Very nice to hear some absent voices in the comments and posts.

Sat. Dec. 15, 2018 – cold and clear

44F and sunny.

Bladder got me up. Kids are still sleeping, and so should I be…

But I’ve got lots to do and I should get started on it. This afternoon will be taken up with family and social commitments.

Company coming in a week, Christmas presents to buy and wrap, decorations to dig out and put up, food to buy… office to put back together, sales to complete… children to cuddle, teams to cheer, and so many more things.

It’s a great life if you don’t weaken.

Fri. Dec. 14, 2018 – counting down the days

45F and wet.  After such a nice sunny warm day yesterday.  Yuck.

It took 4 tries to start typing in this “block” using the new editor.  Don’t know what made it finally work, but the last thing I tried was changing the font size.

No blinking insert cursor.  No layout marks or text.  Just a blank white page.  I can see where the mac fanbois would like it.  Or the UI people at MS who made the tiles interface, where you can’t tell when one window starts and another ends because they’ve eliminated all the visual cues.  There will probably be a metric ton of posts about posting around the world…. how meta.

The year is winding to an end.  Nice that I don’t think russia will be doing a ‘hurry up’ invasion in order to have a fait accompli before the inauguration, like I did a couple years ago…. but there are plenty of things going around.

New Jersey, for example, wants to start a civil war.  We’ll see.  My bet is more boiled frog.

Anyway.  Lots to do today, so I’ll be out of the house.  Talk amongst yourselves…

Thur. Dec. 13, 2018 – wrote the whole thing

64F and damp with rain forecast….

In my drowsy pre-waking state, I wrote today’s whole post. It was a good one too. Too bad I can’t even remember the topic now that I’m awake……

I have some gainful employment this afternoon, so hopefully no policy or politician will need to be mocked, no world issues solved, or crisis averted, as I’ll be busy.*

Wed. Dec. 12, 2018 – open thread

57F and wet, I think. Seems possible. Matches surrounding reporting. Crazy though.

I’ve got nothing to say today. Drawing blanks. Maybe after breakfast….
