Only if the TV news people come to provide up-to-the-minute live coverage of this important event. News people are the biggest sacks of excrement you’ll find other than within government buildings and college campuses and law offices and most not-for-profits and … Well, the news people are in the running, anyway.
OFD is alive and mostly well, after over three hours of surgery yesterday morning, followed by a three-hour nap, and then just little catnaps all night long, interrupted half a dozen times by med doses, wellness checks, all kinds of buzzers, bells and beeps, plus some couple yakking down the hall like they were half a mile apart. And some poor old bastard ‘coughing up pieces of his broken lungs…O Aqualung….ya poor ol’ sod, ya see it’s only me….’
Anyway, the surgeons did great work scraping out a lot of nerve damage and installing metal pins and screws to hold this old carcass together a bit longer.
Meanwhile the VA is covering most of this enterprise but are being dicks now in wanting to send me to their nearest rehab site, down in Bennington, 200 miles south and away from wife and family….spending zillions on the tests, surgery and 7×24 care here, but being penny-pinching jackasses over the in-patient rehab, expected to run six to twelve weeks, which is bad enough.
And the PT nurse with a voice like gravel *insisted* I GTFO of bed this AM and stand up in the walker, which I did, and also shuffled around inside my suite; she said I’m doing great for the first day after that kind of surgery.
No solid foods again until I can pass gas, never a problem any other time, but no can do since 10 this morning. Major bummer, because the food and choices here are very good.
Blood drain removed from my back and the catheter comes out tomorrow.

Don’t be offended. They push everybody to get out of bed, even my father-in-law shortly after his heart transplant.
The fact that you did get up and move is a very good sign.
OFD is alive and mostly well, after over three hours of surgery yesterday morning,
This makes me stupidly happy.
The pass gas thing is new to me. When I had my leg fixed they were fixated on me taking a dump. Er, after three weeks, yeah, maybe I can see their point. Ok, I went from 160# to 120. But really, I’m supposed to lay bottom down on a stainless steel bed pan and do what how?
Once I had crutches… stashed on the far side of the room… (the bastards!) I managed to get outta bed, into wheelchair, across the room to crutches and then to the bathroom. “Smell bad” would be an understatement. And back to bed. Here comes the PT nazi 10 minutes after the deed and I’m sweating like a pig… “have you been on your crutches?” Well, yeah, I had to go potty.
She sorta smiled. 🙂 I sorta took that as approval.
Guys, PT should be spelled out as Physical Terrorist. Abbreviating allows the point to be missed. Although I shouldn’t complain. The Physical Terrorist who helped me recover from my broken arm seemed quite nice, although I suspect that was all a front.
But really, I’m supposed to lay bottom down on a stainless steel bed pan and do what how?
Try using a bedpan when you are five years old and in traction for your upper right arm for six weeks. If the traction had not worked then they were going to to pin my arm together at the growth plate, causing my arm to never grow again.
Ok, I got me some Obamacare BS today. $143/mo with a $1950 deductible before it pays a dime. Which is better than last year’s offer of $650/mo and $8600 deductible that I didn’t buy.
Yes, there are plans for $87/mo but with a $7500 deductible. So I can pay out $1000 for a plan that does nothing until I pay another $7500? How does this make sense?
Oh well. It is $3 less a month than I was giving DirecTv for just about nothing useful. So, that’s a wash on the budget. On the plus side, they’re gonna hit my Discover Card and so I get that sweeeet cashback bonus. A minor win I suppose.
And yeah, I just turned 60. So…. I might have to start seeing a doc once in a while.
“Try using a bedpan when you are five years old and in traction for your upper right arm for six weeks. ”
Did they promise all the ice cream you wanted? When I had my tonsils out at 5 I spent a week + laying face down and drooling on a towel. Eat ice cream? I couldn’t even swallow my spit.

Did they promise all the ice cream you wanted? When I had my tonsils out at 5 I spent a week + laying face down and drooling on a towel. Eat ice cream? I couldn’t even swallow my spit.
The idiots tried giving me a sedative the first week since I could not lay still. They did not know that sedatives work backwards on me. I pulled my upper arm bone apart and the doctor had to reset it again. He was unhappy according to Mom.
I am paying $0.00 a month for my wife for her plan. $2,500 deductible, then 50% until I get to $6.500.00 out of pocket. Last year was $464.00 for a plan with a $3,500.00 deductible and $7,500.00 maximum out of pocket.
I don’t know what changed as my income is the same. Used the same numbers as last year. According to the IRS (using last years TurboTax) my subsidy was too much and I owe them $3,000.00. I can get around that by contributing $3,400.00 to an IRA. Yet my subsidy this year is going to be about $600.00 higher per month than last year. I don’t know what TurboTax and the IRS is really going to do with my numbers for year 2017.
Turns out I would have been better just getting the cheapest plan as I would have effectively paid less because of the wife’s kidney stones. Hit the deductible in one procedure and maximum out of pocket will not be far behind. Lot of bills from three doctors, hospital and pharmacy.
So if you anticipate a major procedure go with the cheapest plan. You may just pay less over the course of the year. Additionally the costs will vary by region so what works for me may not work for someone else. If there is competition the rates and limits may be better.
It is all a crap shoot, a major guessing game that you do not know how it is going to resolve. And if you owe the IRS at the end of the year because you guessed wrong you will get hit with a major bill and penalties for not filing estimated taxes. And you were not able to estimate those taxes because you used the information on the health exchange.
And if you owe the IRS at the end of the year because you guessed wrong you will get hit with a major bill and penalties for not filing estimated taxes.
This is why I always pay more than I think what I will owe. I just don’t want to mess with the IRS. Yes, I know it is a free loan to the gov.

just checking in quickly. glad to hear that OFD made it thru…
Currently in Fla getting my folks settled into new digs for the winter. comcast is providing this pipe, currently at one tenth the speed promised and paid for. Vary variable with time and what server I’m testing against.
Can’t play youtube vids without stutter so not acceptable.
Glad to hear OFD is recovering. Despite my comment about Physical Terrorists, I recommend doing what they say. I completed physical therapy when my arm was at 90% to 95% of normal. Stupid me stopped doing the exercises that the PT gave me. My advice once you are released from care, stay active.
My recovery started well, I just never finished it. I think the reason I did so well up to a point is my one simple rule. There is a line where if you go to far it hurts. Whatever you do, don’t cross that line. However I recommend flirting with that line a lot, as long as you don’t cross it.
This is why I always pay more than I think what I will owe. I just don’t want to mess with the IRS. Yes, I know it is a free loan to the gov.
As I attempt to accomplish. My actual taxes this year are $0.00. I could make another $10K without having any taxable income. The problem is this shitty obuttwadcare. I did my calculations at the beginning of the year, used the income numbers which are really close as input into the website. Thought all was good. But no, bastards apparently had it wrong.
I don’t know what is going to happen for tax year 2017. The healthcare system that is in place makes it difficult, if not impossible, to get the numbers correct. The skeptic in me seems to favor a scam by the government to get people in tax debt so they live in fear of the IRS. Also slap people with penalties to increase the money coming in to the IRS. With the tax changes being proposed it will be even worse. I don’t trust any of those bastards.
Currently in Fla getting my folks settled into new digs for the winter. comcast is providing this pipe, currently at one tenth the speed promised and paid for. Vary variable with time and what server I’m testing against.
Minimize the lines fed from the cable in the house, terminating any open connections that you cannot remove. If that fails, try an Arris 6183 modem. Even Target and Walmart generally have them, and that model is supported by Comcast AFAIK.
If you’re paying for 100+ Mbps and you don’t see at least 70 out of the Arris, call and gripe to the company so they send a tech.
Make sure you cull/terminate the feeds off the main line inside the house before the van rolls up, however, because they will sneak an “Inside wire diagnostic” charge on the bill if the tech has to touch anything beyond what’s in the box outside.
But Ray, think how bad your healthcare coverage would be and how much it would cost without the savings that Obamacare promised. You’d have worse care and it would cost $2500/person/month more. Really! Those savings are what Obama promised, and if you can’t trust a man — er, person of alleged but not demonstrable gender — who’s never held a job, whom can you trust?
RE: IRS
My mother did the books & taxes for the family business. She would always make small “errors” in the IRS favor. When they were audited, which was often, she would see if the IRS would catch these errors. If not, she would point them out, as items the auditor missed. Helped keep the audit honest (as much as possible).
But Ray, think how bad your healthcare coverage would be and how much it would cost without the savings that Obamacare promised.
It is not so much the cost of the healthcare, it is the the system you have to use to calculate what you are going to pay and the choice of a plan. I know that health care policies are expensive. Do it correctly and apparently you still get shafted by the IRS. Plus owing that money puts you in the penalty and filing of estimated taxes. That is wrong because I did not under pay my taxes for the year. To charge me a penalty for the government’s mistake is a travesty.
Had I known the true difficulties of Obuttwadcare I may have delayed my retirement plans for another three years.
currently at one tenth the speed promised and paid for
Make certain all your connections are solid. Re-terminate the connections if necessary. Tools are cheap at Home Depot. If you have a splitter involved replace the splitter, get a good one, high bandwidth. If multiple drops consider an amplified splitter. Comcast provided one for me at no charge.
I currently have my own data modem (Motorola) and a Comcast supplied voice modem. I pay $10.00 a month for the voice modem, but nothing for the data modem. With two modems on the account I have a 2TB limit on data per month. Finding a reasonable priced voice modem certified by Comcast has been limited choices.
NetGear now has a CM500V voice and data modem that is certified by Comcast. I have one on order and will be dropping my voice modem (at $10.00 a month) and the data modem and just use the single device. Price is $129.99 at B&H with free shipping and no tax. Amazon has it but charges tax and shipping. Saving $10.00 a month will pay for the modem in slightly over one year.
If you are not getting the advertised speeds pester Comcast relentlessly. I had to do so initially. Turns out there were two problems. A configuration issue in the file that was being supplied to my modem when it connected to the Comcast network. The second problem was in the lines on the pole. Comcast replaced the drop to the house and that did not fix the issue. When the tech came back he said he found a problem in amplifier on the lines and would need to have a different person resolve. A couple of days later all was good.
Don’t give up until you get at least 99% of the speed you are paying for. I pay for 75 down and get about 80 down using SpeedTest.net to check the speed. That speed has quite steady for the last couple of years.
Magically speeds this am were in the 89-96 range down and 5-7 up. no changes on my part. Just nice and fast.
n
(tech was in the US, spoke english well, and spent a long time with me. He’d checked the proper script and config files were on the modem, and looked at the error logs.
I think there was a local issue that they resolved.)

Lynn, that’s repulsive. You’re talking about Cankles being not just nude but nuder than nude.
On the other hand, deep within Cankles’ bloated, foul exterior could be a young, slim woman.
On the other other hand, if that is true, it’s only because Cankles ate her.
I can’t unsee what SteveF wrote.

Listen to Mr. Atoz.

(tech was in the US, spoke english well, and spent a long time with me. He’d checked the proper script and config files were on the modem, and looked at the error logs.
I think there was a local issue that they resolved.)
