08:00 – More science kit stuff today.

Most of my time this week was devoted to working on science kit stuff, but here’s what I did to prep this week:

  • I ordered half a dozen #10 cans of Augason Farms Morning Moos Low-Fat Milk Alternative from Walmart. At 3.5 pounds per can, that’s 21 pounds (~10 kilos) total, or enough to reconstitute about 35 gallons (132 liters) of whole milk equivalent. We already have 42 pounds of non-fat dry milk powder from the LDS Home Storage Center, but that stuff is intended mainly for cooking and baking. You wouldn’t want to drink it straight or use it for hot cocoa or over cereal. We also have 48 12-ounce cans of evaporated milk, each of which reconstitutes to a quart of whole milk, for another 12 gallons of milk equivalent, and several #10 cans each of cheese powder and butter powder and of course lots of vegetable and olive oil for the lipid component. All in all, we’re now in pretty good shape on long-term dairy storage.
  • I spent a fair amount of time researching stuff for our move up to Jefferson/West Jefferson area in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Incidentally, Walmart usually has the best prices on Augason Farms stuff, even at their regular prices, but their sale (rollback) prices are better still. For example, in April they were selling the #10 cans of Augason powdered eggs at $17/can. They’re now back up to $21/can, which is still better than other vendors. If you’re stocking up, it makes sense to wait for them to put the items you want on sale. You can find which Augason Farms products are on sale at any given time at this link.

So, what precisely did you do to prepare this week? Tell me about it in the comments.

ObolaLynch to waste more millions on fruitless civil rights investigation of Freddie Gray.  Doesn’t it seem like only Blacks get civil rights investigations?  Black guy killed by police (or anybody else) INVESTIGATE! White guy (or any other minority) killed by police YAWN.  Didn’t I read an article claiming police kill twice as many White guys?  WTF, over.

I wonder why the CDC cannot and is in total denial? At least they admit that 300,000 people per year are getting Lyme disease in the USA now.

  4. DadCooks says:

@OFD – thanks so much for that flyover link, I caught it just before the start time, an hour well spent thinking of my Dad and Uncles who served in the Army Air Corps. All were pilots. My Dad flew B-17s in Europe and then went to the Pacific to help finish the War. My Dad brought back three B-17s that were declared total losses on landing. There was a picture in the Smithsonian of one of his B-17s with practically the whole left side shot away with him and his crew standing in the hole. He never lost a crewman, but like many he carried flak in his legs for the rest of his life. A couple of years before he passed my Sister and I arranged for him to have a ride in a B-17. The “young” guys who crewed that plane didn’t just allow him to ride but to slide into the pilot’s seat and fly. Dad said it was just like riding a bicycle. He talked about that day until the day he died.

    Thanks again.

BTW, my prepping this week was spending some time at the range for me and my Wife.

That’s what you get for hundreds of years of the police having free reign (power of the state) to kill black people for no reason whatsoever, no questions asked.

  6. OFD says:

” Didn’t I read an article claiming police kill twice as many White guys?”

At least that many. And the other stats that never see the light of day in the MSM report, of course, that Afrikan-Murkans kill more of each other than white people do by a huge margin, and also kill more white people. And as we all know, every time some white guy is blown away by the cops, gigantic violent riots occur immediately, complete with assaults, arson and more killings. But mustn’t mention any of this, ’cause dat would be rayciss.

“…hundreds of years of the police…”

We haven’t had organized police departments that long. The first one came about in London under Sir Robert Peel 1829 and not here until 1844 in NYC. Police have historically been willing and able to kill anyone without sufficient reason, no matter their race.

“…thanks so much for that flyover link, I caught it just before the start time…”

Me, too; then we hadda sit through, what, an hour of bloviating by the politicians and bureaucrats.

Did you hear that part about the B-17 vet who is 96 now, still flies bush planes in Alaska, and drove himself from there to Mordor for this event??? Wow. That is just insane. I’ve been inside one of those and a B-24 when they came to a Vermont air strip some years ago; I wished I’d had the $300 for a half-hour flight in one over the state capital. I think it’s the Collins Foundation that does this caper…OK, Collings…

“Did you hear that part about the B-17 vet who is 96 now…”

I sure did. There must be something about Alaska. I’m tempted to start looking at Alaska as our final stand. Unfortunately she-who-must-be-obeyed is not inclined to move.

  8. OFD says:

One thing about Alaska is ya gotta love wintuh. We love it here but not quite that much. I am given to understand it’s also a pretty high cost of living there, too.

Walmarts definitely has good prices on the Augason Farms stuff.

I hate to open it up to sample it though.

Sales were lame today. Got a small backpacking stove for $3 and that was about it. I added a couple of jars of ketchup and miracle whip to the stores, but still haven’t organized the shelves.

Ho ho ho…I hear ya five by five, comrade.

Picking up wife from airport after her flight got cancelled today, due to tornado warnings around Wichita Falls the last couple of nights. Then she has to repack and I gotta get her to the airport Sunday AM for her week out in the SF Bay area. By the time I get all this accomplished with her by mid-day Sunday, I’ll be wrung out to the point I’ll just wanna read Catholic theology, listen to pipe organ music at 9 PM on NPR and crash. Then next week is just chock-full of appointments and dealing with our tax nightmare.

Productive work? Maybe if I can steal a couple of hours here and there to finish up the raised beds, and I’ll consider myself very productive.

This one, while dark, is just logical:
    https://westernrifleshooters.wordpress.com/2012/09/03/bracken-when-the-music-stops-how-americas-cities-may-explode-in-violence/

I just have a hard time believing that it could happen here in the good old USA. But the incidents occurring lately (The World Trade Center, Ferguson, Baltimore, Garland) are fairly unnerving. I realize that a country of 320 million people is going to have dissidents but man, there is some crazy stuff going on out there. Couple that with a federal financial system that is going to hell in a hand-basket can worry a fellow.

BTW, Bracken’s CW2 cube has been labeled racist.

Of course it has. And the BBQ owner of Mexican heritage that wants to have ONE day of appreciation for whites is being vilified in the press. Although he points out there are MONTHS each for blacks and hispanics.

It’s long past time to just say “SO?” when they start calling names, and make the sign of the small yapping dog with your hand as they do.

  18. OFD says:

“…Although he points out there are MONTHS each for blacks and hispanics.”

Well yeah; but that’s to make up for CENTURIES of rabid white patriarchal repression and slavery, etc., etc., while ignoring the bald fact that none of today’s or immediately recent generations had anything to do with it and only a tiny minority would even approve of suchlike. We have to be punished for our Privilege, you see.

“…when they start calling names, and make the sign of the small yapping dog with your hand as they do.”

All they deserve. People are getting really fed up with the constant din of grievance whores and pimps. They’re gonna get a backlash some day they won’t like.

    “…Terrified 13-year-old calls for help…”

So the police had this piece of shit on their radar but evidently couldn’t catch him, even after a kid fights him off in her own home.

I’d like just ten minutes in a room with this guy. Is that too much to ask? Mr. SteveF would only take five minutes but I wanna work on him for a bit.

Blue Ridge Mountains. Is that anywhere near http://blueridgearsenal.com/ in Chantilly, VA? I went shooting there many moons ago. A good indoor range and attached gunshop. Friendly and competent staff.

No official prepping this week, but since it’s the first week of Roebuck season, I was out in the woods with a .308Win rifle honing my “survivalist” skills. Didn’t see a buck yet, but I saw does, wild boar and red deer, so I certainly wouldn’t be starving, had it really been TEOWAWKI.

  20. SteveF says:

And the BBQ owner of Mexican heritage that wants to have ONE day of appreciation for whites is being vilified in the press.

Love it. And, while I’ve long been saying “Blah blah blah” when accused of racism or insensitivity, making the Sign of the Small Yappy Dog never occurred to me. Consider your idea stolen sampled.

Mr. SteveF would only take five minutes

-scoff- There is only one individual who lived more than ten seconds after I decided to kill him, and he was only because it took hours to get to where he was and then almost a day to find him and then a while to provoke him into attacking me in front of witnesses. (He had killed two people by driving drunk. Three days later he was in a bar, drunk. People ask why I have so little faith in our criminal system of justice.) And if there’s anything I’ve learned from watching action movies, it’s that you never allow a “fair” fight, you never stop to gloat, and you never ensure he lives long enough to realize just what he did to draw your ire.

I might conceivably torture someone to death, but it wouldn’t be for retribution or catharsis. I’d do it as a warning to others, sending a video to gang headquarters or whatever. Doesn’t seem likely, but it’s conceivable.

  21. OFD says:

“Three days later he was in a bar, drunk.”

It’s long been a revolving door for DUI creeps, some of them arrested and convicted half a dozen times over years. Yet there they are, driving drunk again. And now libturds and lefty shit-birds wanna set up the same sort of revolving door for pedophiles; it’s cruel and unusual to post their stats on the online offender registries, doncha know, and they should be allowed to “re-integrate” back into the community, etc., etc. (where they can offend more victims, natch). As it is, way too many of them are released back into the communities with zero notice to the next-door neighbors or anyone else, some even right smack next to school zones. Our Nanny the Almighty State in action once again.

They’ll make it a hate crime to give the bastards a hard time and potential victims will be arrested, charged and imprisoned in their stead. Too whacky? Look at what the UK has done to B&E and assault victims who fight back against their attackers.

Rotherham child-sex victim confronts her alleged abuser in the street… but SHE is arrested by a van load of police

  23. SteveF says:

The alleged “abusers” in the Rotherham cases were members of a protected minority. They can literally get away with murder if they’re careful about it and gin up enough astroturf outrage afterward. Alleged “abuse” is nothing. Nothing.

  24. OFD says:

We’ll see similar activity here soon enough; victims will be persecuted and arrested for “hate” and “thought” crimes. Orwell didn’t know the half of it.

  25. SteveF says:

Victims are already prosecuted and persecuted, OFD. Or doesn’t the name George Zimmerman ring any bells? Or see http://conservative-headlines.com/2014/03/victim-of-violent-home-invasion-persecuted-for-fighting-back/ .

  26. OFD says:

I was just sayin’ it’ll be happening on a wider and more frequent scale, like it does in the U.K. now.

And if I’d been George Z. I would have hung back and waited for the regular P.D. backup, rather than go barreling around there in the dark after who knows how many perps. He kinda bought his own trouble that night and luckily was armed and instead of him being dead, Skittles Trayvon was, you know, Obola’s long-lost son.

  27. brad says:

“And now libturds and lefty shit-birds wanna set up the same sort of revolving door for pedophiles; it’s cruel and unusual to post their stats on the online offender registries,”

Not sure exactly which initiative you’re referring to, but… Just recently, there was the Florida couple (both adults) caught having sex on the beach. Because it was a public beach and there were kids around, they will both be on the registry for life. I doubt any statistics are available, but I’d bet that the vast majority of registered sex offenders aren’t child abusers.

  28. SteveF says:

I’d bet that the vast majority of registered sex offenders aren’t child abusers.

    Exactly right.

Even for the people who have sex with a statutory child, there needs to be a distinction between sixteen-year-old “children” and actual children. In years past, fourteen-year-olds were considered adults in most cultures, able to make their own decisions. Of course, modern American society does everything it can to infantilize young adults, to the extent that I’ve heard chin-pulling experts seriously suggesting that twenty-four-year-olds should still be viewed as children … and possibly even older than that.

  29. OFD says:

I’ve looked at the online registries here and down in MA and the vast majority are, in fact, child molesters; they also tend, for various reasons, to be concentrated in particular neighborhoods.

Mrs. OFD had previously worked in a position where she had a fair amount of contact and time observing them over several years and her final recommendation on the matter was “AK-47 Therapy.”

  30. Lynn McGuire says:

And if I’d been George Z. I would have hung back and waited for the regular P.D. backup, rather than go barreling around there in the dark after who knows how many perps. Gray area to me. Personally, I would have hung back also. Heck, I would have been in the house watching tv.

But, what was the PD response time in that neighborhood? 5 minutes or an hour? I seem to remember that there were several robberies preceding this incident.

  31. nick says:

“I’ve looked at the online registries here and down in MA and the vast majority are, in fact, child molesters; they also tend, for various reasons, to be concentrated in particular neighborhoods. ”

This is true around me as well. There must be some halfway houses tucked into our neighborhoods. How else to explain 5 of them, unrelated by surname, on the same street? There are several clusters like this near me.

There isn’t any cure. They are only able to act, or not act. The feelings come from within. So what does society do? Sooner or later, they will offend again. And another life will be ruined. Like any recidivist criminal, you can’t act until they commit the crime, no matter how sure you are that they will. And then the ruined life.

I guess we could lock them up, if we let some of the drug offenders go to make room. Or just shoot them if caught in the act, and if not statutory.

    nick

  32. OFD says:

Besides the AK therapy, Mrs. OFD has also supported chemical castration.

As for the housing clusters, I’m guessing either the halfway houses or it’s the only places that will rent to them and they end up congregating. In one Worcester, MA ‘hood there must have been a couple of dozen of them; one look at their pics online and you know they ain’t right in the head and you as a full-grown adult wouldn’t care to run into them in a dark alley.
