By on February 21st, 2015 in science kits

09:19 – As usual for February, I’m starting to feel like the Maytag Repairman. For the first third of the month, we were shipping science kits at a decent rate, but the middle third was a complete washout. This final week will probably be slow as well.

At least that gives me time to work on other stuff that needs to be done, including the prepping book.

Ya gotta do what ya gotta do, depending on what’s coming over the threshold. Can’t wait to get dat book here and will be ordering more for family and friends.

We now have blowing snow, expected to last through the night into the AM, when Mrs. OFD has to drive to Syracuse; temp and wind chill are the usual subzero along with the snow. Whiteout on the lake. Little Siberia here but we got the woodstove cranking.

Had the vets group meeting this past Thursday and it was a doozy; one guy’s brother who lives with him had cut his wrist through the tendon and has major mental issues, while our vet guy did not wanna see a blood trail as he came in through his front door. Desert One vet had some shit going on with an unannounced VA inspection again at his current residence while he was in the process of packing and moving. Knows enough now to get out and take a walk or drive before he kills somebody. All I had to offer was continued stress from tax situation, finances, and trying to get some revenue in here.

After that, the opthamologist took a look at my eye and then gave me a whole new eye exam with state-of-the-art gear and took pics of my eyeballs and then explained the whole deal to me, a good hour-plus of his time. Then he ordered up new specs for me, to be delivered by a uniformed representative of the U.S. Gummint. No charge for any of this. My eyes are good, no signs of any pending macular degeneration or cataracts or anything. Really healthy eyeballs.

Hi, I have just purchased my first 130mm telescope and I am a total novice and are wondering if you think your illustrated guide to astronomical wonders is fine for a total beginner. So far all I have looked at is the moon and Jupiter. Hope you don’t mind me asking. Thank you.

Yes, certainly. We wrote it for anyone from novices to relatively experienced observers. Start with the easier objects and work your way up to the more difficult ones.

I have Dr. Bob’s astronomy book; very highly recommended.

Thanks very much, will do. Thank you for the recommendation OFD also.
