08:51 – Merry Christmas to those of you who celebrate it. Io Saturnalia to those of us who are into more traditional holidays instead of these newfangled ones. Barbara is doing Christmas/Saturnalia at our house this year.

No luck on the illegal immigration amnesty thing for Santa last night. Neither he nor any of his reindeer ever showed up. I did grant amnesty to one confused Lithuanian who knocked on our door. But, speaking of reindeer, Colin seems to have sprouted red and green antlers overnight.

Merry Christmas to all of you. And a Happy New Year.

Same from me! Hard to call Christmas “quiet” these days, but I think now that the family activity is over, the rest of the day will be calm, if not quiet.

Merry Cthulhumas, to those who celebrate it.

(Remember, if you give Lord Cthulhu your devotion, he’ll eat you last.)

Cute commercial. We have lost our creativity here. After the first crop of SNL comedians and writers, hardly anything there is funny anymore. I once worked with some of the newer SNL writers, and they imagine themselves to be far more funny than they actually are, but like the morning radio shows, they are just laughing hyenas for each other.

Edeka aims to be a more upscale grocery (the word ‘supermarket’ has gone completely out of fashion — everywhere), but I assure you that just like in the US, there is no Edeka anywhere in Germany that has THAT many open lanes, even at Xmas. The Germans do not go overboard on the shaky-cam, either. Around me, Walmart, Meijer, Target — I have no idea why they have 30 or more checkout lanes, because far fewer than half were open anytime during the Xmas season, including Xmas Eve, when I had an unplanned shopping excursion arise. I have never before seen so many people shopping as this year. Economy must be good. Gas prices sure are.

Think that was spontaneous? Show me just one shopping cart. They removed them all.

It is not unbelievable that a group of cashiers could be assembled into a musical ensemble, though. Music is taught to everyone in schools, and every native I knew, could play some instrument — and play it well.

I blame the War on Some Drugs ™ for the current police troubles. Of which, most are imagined.
