09:44 – I see that Buffalo got six feet (1.83 meters) of snow. This anthropogenic climate change–or whatever they’re calling it this week–has to stop. We didn’t get any snow, but our overnight low was 19F (-7C). That’s much too cold for November around here.
I’m not sure why everyone is making such a big deal of the expected Ferguson, Missouri grand jury decision. From what data I’ve seen, the man who was killed was a thug who’d robbed a convenience store minutes before the shooting and then attacked a cop. I’m not sure how a grand jury could rule this anything other than a good shooting. And if other thugs decide to riot, loot, and burn, I hope the authorities and good citizens of Ferguson deal with it with lethal force. Apparently, solid citizens in the area are arming themselves, which is a good decision. Fortunately, Missouri is a very strong Castle Doctrine state.
Any smart leadership on the scene out there will tell its followers to take it real easy and mind their P’s and Q’s if they choose to demonstrate; any violence will likely be met with overwhelming lethal force from several directions. This is what we are coming to, in dribs and drabs; eventual widespread conflict between those who make and those who take.
Got ammo?

Swell; a bunch of first-time buyers with zero training or experience.
From what data I’ve seen, the man who was killed was a thug who’d robbed a convenience store minutes before the shooting and then attacked a cop.
From what I have read, he was 6′ 2″ and 300 lbs. Hardly a small person. If somebody that size came towards me in a menacing way, I would not wait until he attacked me before shooting.
The MSM keeps repeating that he was an unarmed teenager. I didn’t know he was missing any limbs.
Rick in Portland
Agreed, but as they say it’s better to have a gun and not know how to use one than to know how to use a gun and not have one. Or something like that.
I’m not expecting any disturbances here, but if rioters/looters show up on our street I’ll reason with them.
The sainted Trayvon was also a large customer, over six feet and well over 200 pounds. That’s a lotta purple Skittles and drank.
When guys that size overwhelm you suddenly with the clear intent of killing your ass, what’ve ya got? In my case it would have to be a guy closer to seven feet tall and 400-500 pounds; I’m not gonna get into it with him wrestling around on the ground or throwing hands; I’m gonna light his ass up.
Of course one should endeavor to avoid such situations; the neighborhood watchman in Florida was out of his depth as obviously this cop out in Missouri was; you can’t let somebody jump you like that.
Word is OshiftForBrains will announce his crimmigrant freedom program in Vegas. I guess he feels safe here in the desert.
I agree in principle with the “Castle Doctrine” but don’t think this guy should have got away with killing this Japanese exchange student…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Yoshihiro_Hattori
As I always say, I wasn’t there. Based on the WP article, this doesn’t sound like a reasonable use of lethal force to me, but again I wasn’t there nor did I hear the testimony.
The legal chit is all over the map with these cases; somebody dusts off a harmless drunk wandering into the back yard at night and gets away with it, or shoots somebody that broke in but is now running away. Another guy fires at somebody breaking in and coming at him with a weapon and gets himself arrested and charged. And then there are all the cop and SWAT wrong address raids, where the cops get off scot-free, no matter how horrific the damage done.
This is why I am completely against no-knock warrants, which are in any case not Constitutional. The police should have to knock-and-annouce, period.
My simple suggestion is that it is far past time that the U.S. Marshals do their job (just need a Judge with cojones) and place every Democrat (including all appointees) from “O” on down in the empty Super Max in Illinois until we can negotiate with French Guiana to restore the infamous Devil’s Island Prison.
Keep your powder dry.
Obola is going to start flying refugee children to the USA instead of them riding that dangerous train through Mexico, “Regime to Fly Immigrant Children Here for Free”:
http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2014/11/19/regime_to_fly_immigrant_children_here_for_free
“The police should have to knock-and-annouce, period.”
Their answer to that has always been a variation of “But the occupant/s can then flush stuff down the toilet, make their escape, grab weapons, etc., etc.” Thus losing the element of surprise, which is why they tend to make so many of these raids in the early morning hours, rousting peeps outta bed who are barely awake and may grab anything to hand, not hear the shouts of “Police!” if any are in fact uttered, and are otherwise kinda befuddled and panicky. This is all done in the interest of expediency and jacking up their stats, while decent plodding police work methodology is cast aside. They need to thoroughly vet informants and the exact addresses and who is likely to be on the premises and the physical layout of said premises. Their answer to this has been “there’s no time.” The other, primary criteria that cops need to abide by is whether or not the alleged crime is worth the potential of someone getting hurt or killed, including them. And SCOTUS has been supportive of cops and no-knock entries thus far.
I agree with DadCooks if we can add the RINO Repubs and the Tea Party charlatans and backstabbers and liars.
“Obola is going to start flying refugee children to the USA…”
C’mon now Mr. Lynn, it’s the children! Have you no compassion? No charity? No heart? Bring them all, come one, come all, we are a vast and wealthy cornucopia of endless riches and benefits! We note that none of the wealthy libtards take any of these kids in (only cute black kids from Afrika) and I seriously doubt any of them will end up attending the Sidwell Friends’ School.
You misspelled “unarmed child”.
You misspelled “innocent until proven guilty, and the police officer should have arrested him, not murdered him”.
re Castle Doctrine: A judge in NY (a federal district judge, for what it’s worth) found not only that there is no “stand your ground” provision in NYS, there’s a duty to retreat from force or threat of force, even from your own home. Even if you have to leave behind your children in your retreat. Alas, I have not seen any news reports of this gormless knob’s head having been removed and placed on a spike. (Sorry, no link. Didn’t find the case in the first two pages of Google results and it didn’t seem worth digging further.)
re the Constitionality of no-knock warrants: The War on Druuuuuugs trumps the Constitution. Didn’t you know that?
Yah, I’ll leave my kids in the house with armed invaders while I skeddadle on outta there.
We need to start gathering relevant data on all these judges for future plans.
In re Ferguson: Would Al, Jesse, Louis, et al be happy if they were allowed to rip the still-beating heart from Officer Darren Wilson’s chest after opening it with a dull butter knife? Would it be enough?
They’re calling it the “Fail Mary”. Not that passing the bill would’ve mattered since (1) President Asterisk would have vetoed it anyway, and (2) ~60% of the La. electorate voted against her in the recent election.
As we’uns say down heah in de Souf: She be a gone pecan!

Regarding 2TB disk limitation issues I found the following article interesting. It explains different issues depending on what specific OS is used, how the disk is accessed, how the partitioning is made and with what.
“Hard drives greater than 2 TB do not work on existing operating systems”
http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2754/~/hard-drives-greater-than-2-tb-do-not-work-on-existing-operating-systems
With the unit that OFD is using, there may also the possibility that there are limitations in the firmware but I am assuming that was not the case in this instance.
“With the unit that OFD is using…”
Windows 8 64-bit. That article doesn’t mention Windows 8. I also went all over the WD and Windows sites and kept running into this issue anyway; many reports that there is a de facto 2TB limit. Yet Greg in Oz and others report using 4TB drives w/nary a problem. I noticed that some of the multi-TB drives for sale on Amazon are actually two or more drives in a single enclosure and they ship with RAID 0 already enabled.
“…350-Pound Thief In Motorized Scooter…”
350 pounds and probably only five feet tall. We’ve seen human entities in those scooters at Wall-Mutt and other stores twice that weight, easily; you can see the wheels buckling. Women, usually, and some with thighs bigger around than OFD’s torso. We won’t mention the gluteus maximus-maximus on many of them. Frankly I dunno how they live, and don’t count too much on it being very much longer. They’ll be prime cuts on those homemade BBQ spits turning over slow fires in urban slag heap wastelands. The fat and grease can be processed for fuel, no doubt.
“Would it be enough?”
No. It would be a start, though, on the way to full-scale reparations for “400 years of slavery.” You know, where you and your family are de facto rayciss anyway and of course responsible for those centuries of slavery. Cough it up, bud.
Waal now, VT just got its homicide/gun violence stat jacked up quite a bit:
http://www.wcax.com/story/27425341/double-homicide-investigation
Next time the staties and Feebies release their annual crime reporting stats, VT will come across, per capita, like the wild, wild West.
And our wunnerful gov hit the woods for rifle/deer season, what a guy! He’s a Dem with an A rating from the NRA; any pol in this state who makes noises about “gun control” gets ‘shot down’ almost immediately, haha, like that?
http://www.wcax.com/story/27429753/shumlin-hits-the-woods-in-calais-for-rifle-season
In other sorta local nooz, the Feebies continue to cover themselves in glory:
“FBI Director James B. Comey Jr. assured Boston yesterday that the FBI and U.S. Marshals “have a pretty good handle” on security for the upcoming trial of marathon bombings defendant Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, but he refused to discuss any potential jihadi threat or other concerns about the case that will put an international spotlight on the city in January.”
Anyone remember this incident? This kid? Teenage grrls went ape over him in the media and on Twitter. But the “official story” on the bombing caper is totally full of holes, as Russ Baker has reported:
http://whowhatwhy.com/?s=Marathon+bombing
Meh, that doesn’t bother me. Information on real events, gathered from multiple sources, always has inconsistencies and gaps. It’s when everything fits together like a completed jigsaw puzzle that it’s time to suspect a big lie has been constructed.
They’ve tried several times to put it together as you say, like a completed and successful puzzle, but got egg on their faces repeatedly; too many witnesses shooting off their mouths initially. The stories were a problem right from the start.
Hey, was that NY case/judge you mentioned concerning a duty to retreat by any chance NY vs. Richard Aiken, about ten years ago? I searched fairly hard for the name of that judge but haven’t been able to come up with it yet. Some states do specify a duty to retreat, but it ain’t me, babe, no, no, no it ain’t me…
I’m pretty sure that’s it. Decision here. Some details don’t match what I remembered, but that’s probably because the NSA went in and edited a bunch of web sites. That’s much more probable than the utterly ridiculous notion that I misremembered something, I’m sure everyone will agree.
Described much more readably on Clayton Cramer’s blog: http://www.claytoncramer.com/popular/DutyToRetreat.html
And now that I’ve reread the decision, I’m remembering what a complete sack of shit (former) Chief Judge Judith Kaye is. Not only this decision but a handful of others, which do nothing but reinforce the notion that either New York State is a complete waste case because more than half of its voters vote for scumbags like Kaye (and Cuomo I and Cuomo II) or New York State is a complete waste case because the corruption runs so deep that scumbags like Kaye are put into office despite the majority of the voting public not being stupid enough to elect her. Either way, there must be something seriously wrong with me that I still live here… but that’s getting to much too depressing a line of thought so I’ll drop it.
Yeah, I read Cramer’s blog entry and also found Judge Kaye but wasn’t sure she was the piece of garbage that ran that decision. I see she’s retired now and probably livin’ the dream in a nice mansion somewhere. A duty to retreat. This is the kind of topsy-turvy world we live in now; we are supposed to run outta the house when the mean ol’ burglar busts in and kneel before the scimitars of our hadji betters when they decide to run sharia over here, evidently with the support of many courts and lawyers and politicians.
I was once at a social gathering, some years ago, with Mrs. OFD up here, at a remote lakeside house in the middle of the state. There were several people there who were, or had been, fairly high up in both the NY and VT state gummint administrations at one time or another. Two gents from the Vampire State held forth for quite a while on just how rotten the Cuomo family is and had all kinds of inside dirt on how truly evil the son, Andrew is. They also had lotsa dirt on the little fuhrer, Rudy Giuliani. It was a pretty good lesson in just how venal some of our politicians are in real life, particularly Dumbocraps. Like the saying goes, there’s the Stupid Half of the War Party, and then there’s the Evil Half.
“If the government wanted a reason to crack down, tens of thousands of people rioting through the streets, setting fires, and committing crimes would definitely have people begging for protection. Whether this unrest is genuine or manufactured, the result is the same – in the next day or so, this part of Missouri will be under seige.”
Tips on peeps mainly having the sense to stay home:
http://www.lewrockwell.com/2014/11/daisy-luther/ferguson-cop-tells-residents-to-arm-themselves/
“Warmongers and neocon hawks will seize upon an altered Russian military doctrine that names the U.S. as its primary adversary as evidence that Russia is indeed a threat and an enemy. This will be a lie.”
http://www.lewrockwell.com/lrc-blog/u-s-is-creating-a-new-enemy-russia/
Just as it was lies about Iraq and Iran. Yet we keep signing up and we keep doing high fives when we watch an online vid of some hadjis getting blown up by one of our Hellfires. That’s all well and good, the latter, but why get involved at all? Why not leave those shit-hole countries, stay home and mind our own damn business?

“Based on the WP article, this doesn’t sound like a reasonable use of lethal force to me…”
A couple of cases in Australia bear on this and what I consider to be reasonable and unreasonable use of a firearm.
In the first case a guy was breaking into someone’s home via a window. The owner told the intruder to freeze. Here’s where the stories diverge…
The intruder said he complied and didn’t move.
The owner said the intruder rushed him.
The owner fired his gun, hitting the intruder and mangling his intestines to the extent that he had to have a colostomy.
If the intruder was telling the truth the force was unreasonable, if the owner was telling the truth the force was reasonable. Since the intruder shouldn’t have been breaking in to private property I have no sympathy. If I’d been a juror in the case I would want pretty solid evidence that the intruder was telling the truth. (I can’t remember now if the DPP prosecuted.)
The second case involved a guy who was sheltering from a rainstorm on someone’s front verandah. The owner got nervous and shot him. In the absence of other evidence this was an overreaction.
Hey, Mr. OFD! Maybe you should hire Sharpless’ tax attorney. Then you could skate on millions, too. Why isn’t this guy in jail….RAAAACISSST! MrAtoz be a racist cracker mofo.
So, is the Keystone pipeline basically a good idea? I haven’t heard much either way. Is the private sector paying for it and taking the risks?
OFD, perhaps your firmware is too old. How old is the mobo in the PC that can’t access the 4 TB drives? Mine was built in about August this year.
Oh hell, I dunno; I got this HP Pavilion Windows 8 box only a couple of years ago. The mobo can’t be all that old, and as I’ve repeated here several times by now, yes, it is 64-bit. I can’t access 749+ GB on a second “unallocated” partition on a 3TB WD My Book external drive. And the whole drive keeps disappearing anyway, which I think may be a function of the crappy USB cable that came with it. I’m fed up anyway, and will be using my worthless external drives for shotgun practice later this week.
Going to large-capacity USB sticks for backups from now on.
Pharaoh Soetero I has gone and done it, or will shortly, out in MrAtoz Land:

It’s all just a joke anyway; there are WAY more than just 5 million illegals in the country right now, probably three times that number. And there’s no way now that the regime will deport them, so they’re here to stay. Mexico basically invaded the U.S. and got away with it, thanks to the machinations of the late Edward F. Kennedy and his minions, and various regimes since, Dem and Repub. This was pretty much treason, no matter how you slice it, and nothing will get done about it.
Look for most of the Murkan Southwest to become Greater Aztlan, from Texas out to southern Kalifornia and up to Colorado. It’s gone. They will also outnumber Afrikan-Murkans in another decade or two. Habla Espanol, senor?
I expect an accompanying increase in the population of narcotrafficantes and associated gansta activity out that way and more so in all our major cities. They’ll muscle out the other ethnic gangs or come to terms with them.
We intend to double down on things Francais and shore up our potential bug-out site/s in the northern Maritimes. Take up fishing and harvesting cranberries. Meanwhile I’m perfecting my baguette baking right here, and next up, croissants and crepes.

Well, it’s a first, an Android update that I pretty much detest from A to Z. My phone just received the update to Android 5, and the corresponding App updates have come in over the last several days. For those who haven’t had the privilege yet, we have:
– Integrated private and business email and calendars. There used to be separate apps, but now both appear in the Google apps. I would have thought it obvious that most people prefer to keep their business and private lives separate. Now, doing so will be a real effort, or else will require the installation of third-party apps.
– Reduced UI functionality. The font size in Mail and Calendar is huge, with no option to reduce it. There is no longer a zoom function, so you cannot change the size that way either. To compensate for the huge font,, they have reduced the days you can see to 5, so as you scroll through your calendar, it is no longer by week – the day on the left is Monday, then Wednesday, then Friday. You can turn the phone to landscape to see a full week, but then you can only see 4-1/2 hours of your day (again, no zoom option).
– Arbitrary UI changes. Designers just cannot leave well enough alone. Just as an example, at the bottom, the “back” function used to be a curled arrow pointing left and the “home” function was a house. Now the “back” function is a triangle and the “home” function is a circle. Huh? What brain-dead designer thought changing things like this was a good idea?
A sign of the apocalypse? Until now, Google’s own software has clearly undergone a lot of user testing. I cannot imagine anyone but designers would like the changes they’ve made this time – they make no sense for the typical user.
“Run for the North Pole!”
Not an option, currently; it’s open wottuh. Very cold wottuh. Traversed regularly by Murkan, Russian and Canadian subs.
But otherwise you are correct, sir; we have a massive social/economic time bomb on our hands and no one thought or cared to think out the eventual consequences of their stupidity or ever bothered to read history. Or even looked at the unfolding situation in ‘old Europe.’
Re: phone updates. I’ve been irritated more than once by the constant updates to apps and the o.s. on the iPhone, plus the continual hassles with iTunes passwords and suchlike. I don’t see how moving to the droid platform would be any better, and possibly be worse. Anyone play around yet with the Windows phone?
Bile Specialist Department:
The current Google page celebrates the 96th birthday of Corita Kent, an artist who died nearly thirty years ago.
Meanwhile the Reverend Billy Graham is 96 and still with us and making news. WTF?
One would not be very hard-pressed to realize who has been the greater influence in the world over the last 80 years.
Pahtly sunny here and continued very windy.
I would have expected you to pick Sister Corita, who was after all a nun.
Graham has had some influence, unfortunately. An evil, malign influence.
Not an option, currently; it’s open wottuh.
Current shot from the North Pole.
Merry Christmas, Mr. OFD.
I’d be curious as to what Google’s criteria is for these little toons over the years. Quite often obscure artist types or lefty icons. Yes, she was a nun but that does not in and of itself guarantee my endorsement for anything.
Billy Graham, like him or not, has been a tremendous influence for a very long time and is still alive and mostly well at 96. Google celebrates Sister Corita’s 96th birthday but she’s been GONE since 1986 and her art occupies a tiny niche in the international art world.
In the world of science this would be like unto the elevation of some obscure dude who invented some quirky product, say, the connectors for ethernet cables, and his 100th birthday or sumthin over somebody like Werner von Braun who arguably jumpstarted our rocket program over here or Francis Crick.
“Merry Christmas, Mr. OFD.”
I see Santa is laughing again as yet another of Dr. Bob’s errant SAM’s misses overhead.
Who needs 2TB of storage? Aren’t all home computers slowly becoming thin clients for the cloud. 🙂
Really. Another nail in my personal coffin of large external hard drives.
Ima gon go wid da USB sticks.
And da Cloud.
And OpenStack.
And all kinds of groovy thangs.
Well, don’t shoot them. Open the cases and pull the hard drives. If nothing else you can mount them internally. Better yet, buy an e-SATA rack or internal drive cage and (if necessary) an eSATA adapter card. For all intents and purposes, eSATA drives might as well be internal drives, except you can easily swap them in and out.
Good ideer, Dr. Bob; I warn’t really gonna shoot ’em; dat kinda stuff be prohibited at our local range. And I now have at least three external drives I can do this with; hadn’t even thought of it, thanks!
So, is the Keystone pipeline basically a good idea?
Not for Mary “Dead Democrat Walking” Landrieu!
In a follow-up report, the TV station determined that constructing the pipeline would provide 42.000 jobs over two years, and fewer than 100 long-term jobs. Since the pipeline won’t be passing through Louisiana, the number of jobs of any kind for La. residents would be exactly … zero.
Sweet, sweet irony!
Keystone Pipeline will pass the Senate when the new Senators take their seats in January. Now, what happens to it after that is the big question.
Actually, the southern half of the Keystone pipeline has already been built from Oklahoma to Louisiana.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/oil-to-begin-flowing-in-southern-leg-of-keystone-pipeline/2014/01/21/ffe35abc-82bb-11e3-bbe5-6a2a3141e3a9_story.html
I do not think that the north half from Canada to Nebraska will be built. There is just too much oil sitting in tank farms in the USA now. The shale oilfields are really producing to excess now.
The problem here is that Obola is an idiot. He does not realize that once you delay infrastructure, someone down the road will be hurt from that action. He is pandering to the Global Warming activists who are also idiots. They are actually claiming that October 2014 was the hottest October ever:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/11/20/warmest-october-on-record_n_6192502.html
I wonder what numbers they manipulated XXXX rebased now?
Obummer is not an idiot and he realizes full well that what he is told to do and not do actually hurts somebody. He’s just doing his job. When he goes, they’ll put another stooge in there, complete with smiling human-interest family and pet.
Shrub was not an idiot, either, like the media portrayed him, and he was also just doing his job.
I’m trying to recall the last time we had an actual working, independent President, and I will guess that it was probably Truman. It was during his watch that the national security state kicked in, and once it got going, We Like Ike just went along with it, and succeeding stooges kept adding to it, so now we have what we have. The next guy will pile onto what Obummer and Shrub did, of course.
Keystone Pipeline Maps
According to that map, the existing and proposed pipelines touch Louisiana not at all.
It appears to my untrained eye that a pipeline already exists between Canada and the USA, namely the Hardisty-Regina-Lincoln route. What’s the purpose of the as-yet-unbuilt Hardisty-Baker-Steele City leg?
The southern portion (OK – TX – LA) of the Keystone pipeline joins up with the current liquid pipelines along the Gulf Coast and goes to the refineries either in Houston, Beaumont, Port Arther, Baton Rouge or New Orleans. There are many.
The proposed northern leg of the Keystone pipeline parallels an existing eight inch liquids pipeline. They are talking about an alternate route that does not go through a major river and “ecologically sensitive areas”. Never mind that there is a pipeline going through those areas already that is in daily usage.
