09:53 – Kit sales have slowed down, but I’m not sure if it’s just the holiday weekend or the fact that most kids are back in school now. We sold one Saturday, two Sunday, one yesterday, and two so far today, for a total of six kits or 1.5 per day for the month to date. Of course, we’re only three+ days into the month, so even a couple more kits today could take us up to 2/day or 60/month average. My original goal for calendar year 2012, our first full year, was 250+ total kits, which we’ll make easily. Next year, I’d like to see us do 500+. Having two more kits available should help us make that.

Need a PCI wireless card that reliably supports WPA2 – the one I have now (Realtek) works fine using WEP but a Google search indicates no good solution to my problems trying to get it connected using WPA2 for more than a few seconds – so recommendations please – thanks.

I got a couple of wireless cards from Newegg, Rosewill brand (which is Neweggs’s house brand). They seem to work just fine.

I wound up using a Wireless Ethernet Bridge like this one and a PCI Ethernet card for a while. I finally got tired of wireless and went wired with a NetGear Home Power Line networking kit. I now use wireless just for truly wireless devices.

Same deal here as with DaveB. and also Robert, I think; the wireless has always had intermittent connectivity issues, security problems, etc., and this is still the case years and years after I first played around with it. I have now gone to all wired accordingly. At the new house we also have crappy cell phone coverage as well, which seems to be a problem anywhere near the lake shore for others as well, which I do not as yet understand. So, Skype for long-distance, and cells for backup and on-the-road, etc. May consider a landline at some point.

Steady rain showers and t-storms here today, and they are needed.

Change of cell phone carrier may solve your connection problems at the new house. Not sure how to find out which carrier has towers closer to you, as I have a friend who works in that industry, and can tell me who has towers closest to me, wherever I might locate.

I have given up on wireless, too. Put the router in the basement and ran a wire to everything that needs it. Speedier and always solid.

My wireless problems were most likely caused more by neighborhood same-channel interference, as everybody on all sides and down the street have wireless. About 10 network station options appear when I poll what is available. That may be what is knocking Alan off after being connected for a short time. There is a program to check for channel interference, but I cannot seem to find it right now.

My wireless in the house is rock solid and has been for several years. I use a D-Link DIR-655. But, there are no other wireless points within range. So like others have stated it may be an interference issue.

  7. Chuck W says:

Here’s the program I have used to determine the most interference-free channel—it is called the inSSIDer:

I also use D-Link routers and wireless cards, and have never had a problem except with the Roku wireless, and that’s its fault.

  9. Ray Thompson says:

I just us an APP on my Droid to find the channels.

One thing that WILL knock wireless offline are old wireless phones. Several years ago I had a wireless phone that would consistently knock my wireless down when I used the phone. I got rid of the phone and got a new router to solve the issues.
